@@darthsampo3022 its difficult to maintain he is well meaning in face of things he does. in this episode he referred to rhaenyra as his "only child". due to viserys covering for them, rhaenyra and her children are not facing consequences for their actions. he was willing to go far beyond law to protect his daughter; overlooking maiming of his own son , killing vaemond like a lawless tyrant so that her son can get his inheritance through fraud, etc..
and foreseeable consequence his actions was a war destructive to his subjects and his house. it was his duty as a well meaning king to prevent that . he didn't do that.

@@sitting_nut lucerys is legally Laenor’s son. Laenor knew perfectly well whats up and he was in on it, and he accepted the boys as his own. You could say he adopted them. As far as I know, an adopted son has the same rights as a natural born one.
Difference in case of Joffrey was that Robert didn’t know he was received, and he would’ve pit Cersei and her children to death.

      @sitting_nut ปีที่แล้ว

@@Shuddho1980 you are willfully pretending to be naive and blind, to defend the indefensible. nobody is claiming any adoption or legitimization here. rheynera is literally claiming (in fact perjuring) lucerys to be "true born son" of laenor. how did you miss that straight out fraudulent claim? do explain. that laenor took part in the fraudulent scheme perpetrated on others, so he can benefit, does not make that any less fraudulent . in any case he is legally murdered( as he is actually in book) .
based on facts and law, vaemond was the heir. king and his daughter tyrannically used illegal violence and fraud to murderously grab his inheritance for benefit of her son ( who it should be noted knowingly took part in the fraud ). and to keep on deceiving rest of the realm so that she and her children can continue to be the heirs to the throne.

Even though I'm completely Team Black, I have to give Aemond some leeway with his "strong" speech. He was provoked by Luke snickering at him when the pig was put in front of him. OK, but to be fair lucerys is younger and if I were him, I would snicker over a roast suckling pig being set in front of his uncle that they presented with the pink thread. I’m sorry I have two boys I know they would’ve been doing more than just snickering a little bit because that shit is funny to kids and new series is still very much a child in this episode. And I do not give me wrong. Aemond reminds me a lot of Daemon and I love Daemon. And second sons, who feel like they’re better fighters and better rulers, they have a lot in common not to mention the fact that they’re both rather hot looking in their badness it wasn’t Luke’s fault. Luke was the youngest of all of them I get why he’s snickered. I laughed, and I’m a full grown adult woman, but when that pig was set in front of Aemond. I laughed.

I get you on the family member holding on. My mother was diagnosed with brain cancer last August and was gone 3 months later to the day. At the end she was basically not there mentally. She didn't talk, was hardly ever awake. This was during a phase of covid where the hospital wouldn't allow more than one visitor at a time until she was a hospice patient. When they let me and my two brothers in, my dad told her we were there, we crowded close, and she opened her eyes wide and looked squarely at each of us. As if she was saying goodbye. Then she hung on a couple of days longer, until my parents' 38th wedding anniversary. I think she held on long enough to hear my dad tell her happy anniversary. She was similar to Viserys in that her family was very important to her and she couldn't stand it when we fought!

Personally I don't think misunderstanding Viserys's dying words decided Alicent's future actions (whatever they may be), I think it was more like she was going to continue with her agenda anyway but Viserys's words helped her to resolve her own internal conflict about it - she can use it to justify things to the world and, more importantly, to herself.

@@LS13. Now our reactors have finished S1, there are SPOILERS FOR ALL OF SEASON 1 IN THIS COMMENT.
Sure you're right, no throne ambition for herself, but she's long wanted her half of the family to be favoured and in a position of power over Rhaenyra's. She must have considered the events that would occur when Viserys inevitably died and it was no secret she wanted to be favoured in the fallout.
And she's not unfamiliar with power grab plots either - in E8 she was conspiring with Vaemond to usurp Corlys' seat upon his death to place her ally in a position of power and prevent Rhaenyra's son taking that seat.
Let's pretend that Viserys never said anything to Alicent before dying... Otto and the green council were still plotting to install Aegon and would have still succeeded in Rhaenyra's absence from King's Landing. I think Alicent would have still gone along with her father for the sake of her family as long as it didn't involve killing Rhaenyra, as we learn in E9 she objects to. Viserys' final words allowed her to justify what was to come to herself - she wanted to believe it despite it being too good to be true, and it makes a great story to tell to any doubters of the green's cause. Even Aegon knows it's a ridiculous thing to believe that Viserys changed his mind on his deathbed.

Regarding New Gods vs Old Gods, beside the North only a few remote locations in the South (and the Blackwoods, which we saw when the kid tried to marry Rhaenyra) follow the Old Gods according to the books.
Oldtown is indeed the oldest town in Westeros, and is older than the Faith of the Seven, as are the Maesters who study there, so they used to follow the Old Gods, but are now the seat of the New Gods (the giant Sept from GoT isn't built yet, so the High Septon is in Oldtown rather than King's Landing) - this is why the Hightowers are both an ancient house related to First Men institutions like the Maester, but also deeply religious and connected to the Faith of the Seven.

The other shoe to drop during the dinner scene is the realization that while the adults might be willing to make peace, their actions and rivalries have infected their children and the next generation. That even in some hypothetical land, if Alicant and Rheynear did make peace, their children would continue the feud and clearly hate each other.

  • @blackeyedlily

It was said that Alicent really began to embrace the Faith of the Seven after that incident where she ended up cutting Rhaenyra with the dagger. She was very concerned that people would think she acted very erratically. So you can either interpret it as a way for her to put up a pious front, or that she was actually embracing the faith on a deeper level because of what happened. That earlier scene with her and Rhaenyra praying was in a Sept of the Seven. They were praying in front of a statue of the Mother. So Alicent was a practitioner of that religion for most of her life. I thought that one of the interesting things in that early episode was how Rhaenyra was not very comfortable or familiar with praying, even though the Faith of the Seven is the official religion of the state. So you would have thought that she would have been brought up with those traditions. The Targaryens officially adopted that religion when they first took the Iron Throne. But that doesn’t mean that the family actually kept the religion. Daemon and Rhaenyra’s wedding, as well as all their speaking in Valyrian show how much they are attached to their heritage. And the Valyrian’s had a religion with a large pantheon of gods.

I genuinely don't understand how so many people misinterpret that scene with Alicent and Dyana. Alicent isn't threatening her, she's telling her that she, as a mere serving girl, cannot go around accusing a Targaryen prince of being a rapist. Something like that could get her killed or worse. She gave Dyana moon tea because giving birth to a Targaryen bastard would, while a threat to Alicent's children should Aegon take the throne, would also absolutely make Dyana a target. People seem to have this idea that Alicent is some kind of Cersei-lite which she isn't.
Alicent is defined by internal conflict. She wants to be a good person, to be a dutiful Queen and daughter. Being a good person means she ought to reconcile with her extended family. She's pulled in the opposite direction by her family by birth and she has been since she married Viserys. People are quick to forget that Alicent was on Rhaenyra's side and chose her over her father right up till she found out Rhaenyra swore on her dead mother and lied to her face. Her feelings on Rhaenyra were justified by Rhaenyra blatantly having bastard children with her sworn sword and passing them off as trueborn. Now her internal conflict is staying true to the values that she ended her relationship with Rhaenyra over while having to acknowledge that her eldest son is in every way worse than what she assumed Rhaenyra would be. Anybody with eyes can see that Aegon is her least favourite child.
Anybody with eyes can also tell that while she's still very much angry at Rhaenyra, Alicent is still conflicted by her. Hell, she was actually willing to reconcile with her after everything. If Alicent and Rhaenyra had a single heart to heart at any point, she likely would have reconciled with Rhaenyra years ago. Obviously the civil war would have likely still kicked off since it was far more complicated than Alicent's feelings on the matter but still. If Alicent were exactly as she was in the book then I'd understand all the hate she gets but Alicent in the show is genuinely more sympathetic and understandable than her book counterpart ever was.

There are disadvantages if Alicent's and Raehnyra's sons sharing the same name.
It is very unfortunate that Alicent now really believes that she has the king's consent to ascend the throne herself. Or at least that she believes she is part of the prophecy on which the future of the house depends. This means that she has to have Raehnyra and her sons eliminated, because officially the king gave her the support again. There is no other way. And she believes that this is exactly what the king has unofficially given his consent to. Middlefinger Strong and his assassins will probably be used again for this.

    *Three* *Overlooked* *Scenes*
When Daemon discovered Syrax laid 3 eggs. Have you ever seen Daemon so excited and smiling so big before? One of the eggs will hatch and become Morning, Rhaena's dragon.
The moment Daemon discovered about the maester conspiracy which is way too late by this point. He smelled the cup filled with milk of the poppy. Understand that this is only the 3rd time Daemon has returned to King's Landing after *20* years. He returned when he seduced Rhaenyra and then when he invited himself to her wedding. The milk of poppy is basically like morphine to keep Viserys sedated but he can no longer think straight which puts the Hightowers making decisions on the throne.
Viserys had a hard time recognizing Daemon and Rhaenyra on their arrival. Daemon calls out Alicent on this. Then Rhaenyra asked Alicent who will be the one who will give judgement to Lucerys' inheritance? Alicent said that would be her and her father. Viserys showing up was important as this saves Lucerys' claim for Driftmark. Alicent no longer had authority over it.
The scene with Mysaria. This is the one I didn't understand at first because I didn't know that was Alicent's servant girl, Talya, who gave the moon tea for Dyana (Aegon's rape victim). When you see someone wear a hoodie, you obviously think of Daemon or maybe Aemond. But it's Talya. I thought this would be the scene to poison Viserys but it wasn't. Viserys sorta died on his own. But this scene is important because it means Mysaria has a spy in the Red Keep.
    *Book Spoilers*
Mysaria plays a role with Blood and Cheese and is a major ally to Rhaenyra during the war. So big, Rhaenyra let's Daemon sleep with Mysaria every night.

Vaemond saw his opportunity slip away when Viserys showed up, so I think he decided he was going to have the truth stated plainly in public. From Vaemond's point of view House Targaryen has just conspired to softly take over House Velaryon. Everyone else who has a say is Targaryen by blood or by name. He suspects that Daemon and Rhaenyra did Laenor in (and he is not entirely wrong about that either, they did have the identity of Laenor Velaryon destroyed). Saying that Laenor's supposed sons are bastards is measure of revenge for what has been done v to his family.

*DAEMON* *IS* *STILL* *THE* *BADASS* *KING* 👑
*DAEMON* *STOLE* *THIS* *EPISODE.* I thought it would be AEMOND and he looked cool. But when Daemon sliced Vaemond's head, Aemond had all kinds of emotions running in his head. Then when Daemon walked up to Aemond, his nephew knew what's up and walked away. Aemond doesn't want Daemon's smoke even after trying to shame Jace and Luke. 🤣
This episode showed that Daemon is still the biggest BADASS in the show and Aemond is the young pup trying to be like him. It's like Aemond is Kobe and LeBron worshipping MJ 🐐 as kids. We also saw the most compassion from Daemon in this episode by seeing the pain in his face seeing his brother like that. Helping Viserys walk up his throne and putting the crown on him. This was compassionate, caring Daemon at his best.
This is where I believe Daemon will always be higher than Aemond on my favorite list. Because Daemon has a HEART. You can be a BADASS but if you don't have a heart and compassion, it's harder for viewers to care about that character. You don't want to be a badass but also a cold, heartless monster. This is the difference I see from Daemon vs. Aemond. Daemon has that heart in him the way we saw in Jaime when trying to save Brienne from a gang rape.
Daemon cares about others and Aemond seems unfriendly and spiteful. Aemond may look like a badass but Daemon is already a certified badass while still charming and funny. Seeing Daemon and Aemond standing face-to-face is foreshadowing of the main event later down the line. The O.G. vs. Young G. Bravo to Paddy Considine. He will truly be missed. My MVP in terms of acting from Ep 1 through 8. With Viserys dead, let the Dance begin. Let the 💩 hit the fan.
My favorite moment: After Vaemond calls Rhaenyra a whore, Viserys stands up and says, "I will have your tongue for that." Daemon slices Vaemond's head from behind and then says, "He can keep his tongue." Then Otto yells, "DISARM HIM!” The cool part is when the knights drew their swords, Daemon being the GANGSTA that he is looks totally nonchalant and is cleaning the dripping blood from Dark Sister while looking directly at Aemond who looks impressed. Then the scene when Daemon chuckles when Aemond walked away from the dinner scene.
I believe this is only the 2nd time in 16 years that Daemon and Aemond have ever met. Technically, 15 years. Aemond wasn't born yet when Rhaenyra wed Laenor. The first time was in Driftmark. For folks who like the Jon Snow/Robb Stark good boy types, watch out for Jace. I swear, my boy Daemon and my boy Bronn would've been best friends if they lived in the same era. "You don't fight with honor!” "No. He did"... "He can keep his tongue." Then a nonchalant look like nothing happened.
Daemon flinched when Rhaenyra threw something at him in Ep 4 but Daemon doesn't flinch when multiple swords are drawn at him. Aemond might be a badass but Daemon is on a far higher level of being a BADASS. To Daemon, none of this stuff surprises him. This O.G. killed at least a dozen people in a span of 90 seconds in Ep 3. This wasn't sparring with Criston. Daemon looked more excited about Syrax's 3 dragon eggs than beheading Vaemond and having swords drawn at him.
Where's the "strong boy" in you, Aemond? Poser. 🤣 But he's still a young buck. Remember, Daemon is a man of very few words. Didn't say a single word to Aemond. Matt Smith does a lot of his best acting as Daemon with silence. That's the cleanest beheading you'll ever see with Valyrian steel. Daemon must be awesome playing Fruit Ninja. Hey newbies, you will start realizing why Daemon is GRRM's favorite Targaryen. That's over other legendary Targaryens like Aegon the Conqueror. GRRM ranks Daenerys 2nd fav among GOT characters tied with Arya. Tyrion is his fav in GOT.
Like 90% of my top 10 favs are pretty much pricks or killed somebody. 🤣 Daemon, Jaime, Bronn, Tormund, Tyrion, Oberyn, Euron, Drogo, and Aemond (not yet in the show). I like the killers or the brave, fearless warriors. Only Davos is the good one. Davos is just an honorable sailor. He looks like Edward Smith, the captain of the Titanic. The good boy types like Jon Snow don't appeal to me that much. In the book, Rhaenyra ordered Daemon to kill Vaemond who was beheaded and his carcass was fed to Syrax.
    *Book* *Spoilers* *Ahead*
GRRM has said book and TV are canon but they're canon operating in their own universe. Fire & Blood isn't supposed to be accurate. It's a history book about Targs from Aegon I to young Aegon III written by maestors (or unreliable narrators). So the book isn't exactly gospel to how HOT D will unfold. I think GRRM loves Daemon so much, he didn't want to officially kill him. He wants Daemon to sorta live forever. If no final shot in Pentos with Nettles, then I hope Daemon gets the *D.B.* *Cooper* ending.
Keep Daemon's death a mystery forever. By never revealing his death, he can live forever in our minds. I think if we see Daemon live at the end, his haters and Green supporters will say, "Well, that POS didn't deserve to live! He ordered for Blood and Cheese!" So I say write it like D.B. Cooper or the three prisoners who escaped from Alcatraz and keep it a mystery. Maybe only give us hints that Daemon remains alive but we never see him. Let our imaginations run wild with it.

They say that Alicent is the "Cersei" in this series. But I think Rhaenyra has more in common with Cersei. Her children are bastards, she slept with a family member, and she asserts her position in the world of men. Alicent is more of a "Catelyn Stark" who would do what she thinks is righteous and would do anything to protect her children.

40:03 I don't think Alicent will marry again. She will be the Queen Dowager now, watching over her children as the products of her erstwhile marriage to the late King Viserys. If she were to remarry, she would lose her titles ("Your Grace" et al.), state grants, standing and station, as well as influence at court, all gained from her previous marriage.
