Gone now, for over 17 years. For a demographic of HS band geeks in the mid 70's, he was a God. His energy and "athletic" presence as soloist/band leader was an inspiration for Ferguson Fanaddicts. He was the trumpet hero we needed, and raised our stock a bit amongst non-musians, especially after "Rocky." My son and I got to see him once, back in '05. On my Mt. Rushmore, of times spent with my boy💎
Maynard is so gracious, positive and generous with this energy - dedicating a song to a native American is fantastic (and ahead of his time in many respsects). RIP Mr Ferguson
I've had Maynard Ferguson live in San Francisco for over 30 years and it never gets old. Gregg Bissonette is just so awesome. Huge inspiration for me personally.
W O W ! Cannot believe this video exists. My father took me to this concert. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video of one of my childhood jazz heros. +1 Dennis Diblasio.
This is going to end up as one of the most viewed MF vidoes of all time. Great capture of a great MF era. You can tell The Boss really enjoyed Greg Bissonette's drumming....as well as Matt's bass.

If there has been a trumpet player with more stage presence than Maynard, it has escaped my radar. He was more hip and dynamic than life, period.

This is the rarest Maynard performance of all time. And a really hard find
Rainman what about spinning wheel can’t find that one
2020 & he's still the goat
Oh boy. This trombone solo is gonna be hard to beat. Wow! On point. Love the lines
Actually his solo on the Live in San Francisco CD I think smokes more!
I was fortunate to see this set live! My handy tape recorder was in hand...

BASS AND DRUMS. BURNIN. M.F. GREAT beauty the way he could play. LOVE IT
I LOVE Maynard! And that trombonist,Chris Braymen, sounds great on this.
drums Gregg bissonette bass guitar Matt bissonnette. Crystal Clear perfect
The f*&king swagger....Pure Maynard!!!!
Mr. Steve Wiest wrote The HELL out of this. What a tune!!!!
Wiest is a fine composer/arranger but I believe Chris Braymen and MF get the credit on this tune.
Denis Diblasio said that Steve wrote the tune,as he was discussing Fireshaker and his tune Bebop Buffet.
Unbelieveble Maynard!
They named the song after a guy... I'd like to meet him if he's as funky as this tune!
Matt Bissonette on Bass ‘
Love this song, love the album it was recorded on. Awesome.

I wish I was at this performance. This era to the early 90's MF was playing alot of original compositions of his and other players. Really good stuff.
One of my favorite MF tunes
