This is probably my favorite Maynard Ferguson track of all time, right next to songs like Conquistador, Gabriel, and Gospel John. The kick-in grabs your attention right away, and then you get the bass-line. Absolutely godlike, off the chart funk the entire time. The drummer is also insane, every note has so much punch, it feels like the band is just an extension of the drummer’s intensity. I haven’t even gotten to the trumpets, and, holy crap, no matter how many times I listen to the song, the high register never gets old. The sheer power behind those trumpet players is insane. All in all, amazing song with each section pulling their weight, making each buildup as good as the last.
Rocking this song at CMU Jazz Festival with the West Michigan Homeschool Fine Arts Jazz Band! Anyone in the area should come and here us rock out! 9:40 AM! Our lead Trumpet rivals some of the best in the jazz world, and our Lead Alto will make you lose yourself later in our performance with his solo in Jeeps Blues!!
Joel M. I had a lot of stuff to say at that concert. It was beautiful. it was my freshman year and first year in jazz band. I heard your first trumpet. He was unbelievable. Being a bassist myself I loved the groove and you guys introduced me to Maynard. Our south Haven group came to watch as you guys were up and we couldn't stop talking about y'all. I'm on an upper level of musicianship (not trying to brag) but I was jealous because I want to be in that good of a group. Y'all killed it!
Grant "Funky" Frabe Many thanks man. I was Berri sax that year, and it was a blast. Don't play much now, but it was an awesome time in my life. I miss it a lot. Love to meet someday, or cross at a festival!
Floyd Fried and the Tech Tones- Hutchinson-Central Tech High School! c/o 1992 - 1996! We loved this song! Played it ALL OVER THE EASTERN SEABOARD! Won Fourth Place at the Berklee College of Music and Jazz Festival the first time we entered in 1994! Eric Biondo and King Susaphone on Trumpet! Rob Grissom on Backup Keyboard!

Not to take away from Maynard's phenomenal playing, but the electric bass in this song is downright amazing.
Sounds like Gary King, who was a very busy guy in the '70's and '80's.
Send this to Davie504.
Matt Bissonette on the bass.
Not the written bass line either. Really grooves.

At 1:09 the beat turns around as the bass player goes with the drummer, even though the drummers was doing a "turn the beat around" drum effect.
Thats just a glitch in this video. Different from the original one

You got this, chica!
Does anyone have sheet music for this, its so amazing
skelmins it's on Hal Leonard
So I bought the sheet music, every solo is ad lib. It literally gives you the chords to go by and you make your solo.
@spudhufer It's not a trombone - it's a superbone
You have no right to monetize this
Sir Max Levandoski it's not monetized
TheLegend27 it was a month ago
How do you check

3:56 it's all Maynard, took a while for the band to able to get up to his speed.
the jet-tone 5D, it was actually given to my teacher by him
3:14 "Its Maynard"
No. Maynard says "Chris Brayman" the trombone soloist.
