Video was helpful in locating the screws for the lower part of the console and noting that the console comes apart in 2 sections. I have to reattach or replace roof control switch. The support bracket that holds it has broken and it has sunk into the console. I have a new switch and bracket for my 2004 SLK320. Now have to figure out how to get at it.

Hi, thanks for the video. I'm trying to remove the piece with the mirror and convertible operation buttons on it, looks like you have to undo the entire back plastic panel to get that off? Not in your case, as the panel is cracked wide open, but I suppose normally you would? or is there another way?
Sorry I don’t know but I know there was no other “easier” way than to remove the whole console to get to anything. Probably why it costs so much to have a mechanic do the work!
I second this motion, there is no easy way to get that bastard out, I luckily pried mine out to reconnect the mirror control which was pushed in idk why.
Do you have any idea why those internal panels are so fragile? My opinion is the Mercedes SLK used wrong material (PC+ABS). This is the reason I believe. Although MB claims those materials are environmental friendly and this is the answer. However, check the upper panel, it is exposed to the sun directly for so many years, why they are so durable? That why I doubt Mercedes used wrong materials for SLK not just as they said because of the environmental friendly materials.
What about removal of handbrake sleeve?
