I know its a long time ago now but fyi, the hydraulic pump pressures up once and then stops to not overheat so after around 6-10 minutes the pressure is out of the system leading to the roof coming back down
Is it still staying droop free six months later, with colder temps, moisture, plus hot heater? I've seen many in forums saying this re-sticking to foam won't hold, as the separation from the leatherette means the foam is breaking down. They say you must scrape off all the old foam and apply adhesive to the particle board to adhere new material that is pre-bonded to its own foam baking. (Of course, that will also fail if the board has been contacted by leaking hydraulic fluid.) I've bought foam-backed diamond headliner material, but not looking forward to grinding all the old foam and adhesive off the board, and I'm worrying the diamond-stitched material won't conform to the curves well without looking bunched. So, I'm very tempted to first try the same as you if the foam doesn't seem crumbly. I'm hoping you have proved it possible that only the adhesive that bonded the foam to the leatherette has broken down over the years, and am I'm very curious to know if the old foam is hanging on to fresh adhesive.
Well my SLK is no longer with me, but the headlining didn’t sag again after I did it. I will say though that when I did it, the foam layer was basically removed as it had turned to dust, which is what caused the sagging in the first place. I did think about covering the backboard in a black flock material, and would have if my first effort had failed. Basically, if yours is sagging, you haven’t got a lot to lose in ‘having a go’. I say GO FOR IT!
Hi. I didn t understand what you did with the edge. Did you remove the fabric on the edge or you kept it ? My english isn t very good i missed some infos 😅
A lot of the fabric around the edge was damaged when I glued the fabric on. I mentioned this in the video, but basically, these area can’t be seen when you put the panel back into the roof, because the plastic panels it slides into hide these areas. I hope this helps.
The R170 is such a lovely car to drive and be in. Glad you fixed the headlining. 👍
I agree. It was a very nice car. Not like my awful Vauxhall tigra! Same idea, but very very poor workmanship.
I used a product called flexi spray, which I bought on eBay. It was £7.25. So far no problems with the job at all.
Great video. Thank you.
I appreciate that. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Nice job my thime to do it !!!! Thanks for the movie 🇸🇪
My pleasure. Good luck!
Congrats. Looks terrific!
Thank you
You saved yourself a small fortune.
Pleased to have helped. It makes the video worthwhile. Thanks very much for the feedback.
Merci beaucoup, très sympa cette vidéo et son auteur !

Thanks for the information 👍
Great video. SLKWorld :D
Thank you very much. I appreciate the comment.

Awesome job. what the name of the adhesive? any leaks for adhesive?
It was just some random contact adhesive from eBay. No leaks.
I missed what type of adhesive you used. Suggestions please.
I just bought spray on glue from eBay. It’s very common for use on fabrics for example
