I actually love this movie. It's in my list of the top 5 of John Carpenter's films. Just a fun action movie with a great cast.

Saw this in the theaters and loved it. Still do. An outpost on Mars? An ancient, alien force that possesses people and drives them to commit atrocities. A badass team of protagonists just trying to live through the next few hours. This is the best adaptation of Doom, to hit the big screen, despite having nothing to do with that property.
Doom is actually better than this turd.
I absolutely love this movie. It reminds me of Heavy Metal but in live action form.
i dont get any heavy metal vibes from this movie at all. and yes i know youre talking about the cartoon not the music genre.
I remember taking my mom to see this in my college days. She never missed a John Carpenter movie, even an average one.

My buddy and I saw this opening night. There was ONE other person in the theater. We loved it.
I hunted down the soundtrack, and still rock out to it to this day. One of the tracks is called "Pam Grier's Head." Fantastic.

This movie is great! Forgotten gem even! Showed this to a group of my friends a while back during weekend movie night, none of them had ever heard of it. When it was over, they loved it. We all pretty much agreed that it is a better possession movie than most of the crap released in the past decade. Now it's in the cycle for our annual Halloween movie list LOL
This is an absolutely terrible movie. But I am absolutely onside with someone loving it. Right on. I've liked tons of movies most hated.

I saw this back to back with Jeepers creepers. I loved it. It's basically assault on precinct 13 in space.
Natasha henstridge is one of the top 5 most beautiful women in human history, absolutely stunning!!I can't believe she didn't have an even bigger career than she did because she also is a damn fine actor.

My dad rented this movie by accident and we watched it when I was 12. I've loved it ever since, it's one of my guilty pleasures. We need more sci-fi horror

Ghosts of Mars was a pure science fiction experience.
This movie is definitely an interesting one although I've always been a Ice Cube fan. So this movie will have a soft spot for me.

there should be a gofundme to reedit this into a proper carpenter movie, not some genx hacker on extasy crap or what ever was the studio cooks in the kitchen plan to hipsterize carpenter.
Writer of the episode here…I’m glad to see so many come to defense of this movie. Like it was mentioned in the video,I didn’t see it until last month. I had an absolute blast with it. Was it a good movie? Nah. But did it keep me entertained? Damn right. I’m a man of cheese, and Carpenter sliced up a giant piece of it.
It's ironic that it was made to be so cheesy, as if done seriously, this plot-line has enormous potential. I would love a remake.@@christianleger2100
I took a college course "Westerns in film" and among the classics we analyzed, the final film we covered was Ghosts of Mars, as it parallels many of the same tropes as the western genre (Natives vs invading pioneers, etc.) And honestly I've held it in high regard ever since.
I think Falling Down is a modern Western if redressed visually and put into the right context.
A lot of people would be better off just watching the movie first before looking up reviews or things. I watched this when it came on back then and loved it. To me it was off the walls horror with known people I loved seeing.
That’s how i came across this movie. I was changing the channels on cable and I came across it. I let 35min pass and I was like, what is this mess. I was surprised and shocked to learn that it was a John Carpenter film

Your backstory to the film actually makes me wanna watch it now. I’ve stayed away from it for years as it looked kinda cheap and unworthy of such a great like Carpenter.
Also I didn’t know he was a gamer. But picture this, if he’s gonna step back into the director’s chair, why not (and this might be crazy) but why not direct a video game?

I remember being really excited for this movie when it came out. I was in High School. Watching I saw it as Assault on Precinct 13 in space.
Like you I have always avoided this film because I was afraid of hating it. Now not caring about critics and not liking anything recent to come out, plus having your some what approval, I will check it out.
Some Carpenter fans said this was originally supposed to be Escape From Earth , the third of a Snake Plisken series . It was a tough movie for John Carpenter make because his mother died during the making and maybe some studio interference .
this and Vampires will always have a special place in my heart watched them both over and over on vhs!
This movie is an underrated gem!
It is the perfect Doom movie and third Snake Plizkin movie that we never got.

For years, I have felt people weree too harsh when it comes to this film. It's fun, and that is the whole point.
I actually liked the movie. I knew it was cheese and camp at the time, but in all the best ways. This one definitely has a spot on the "so bad it's good" shelf of my library.

This movie's plot-line has a lot of potential. There's something so engaging about demonic invaders closing in on a desperate and small band of survivors in a desolate setting, culminating in action and hijinks. Parallels Aliens in a lot of ways, but obviously falters in the quality department. I will always remember this movie after seeing it as a child via rental VHS with my bro back in the day. Good times. Simpler times. Ty for the vid.
That movie was so underrated and still one of the best imo...plot special effects acting...
I can't help but love this movie. It's just too much damn fun. It's a Paul Veerhoven style romp, completely tongue in cheek, and flying over general audiences heads.

It's okay. The whole flashback stuff is a bit messy, but also different enough to give an interesting way of storytelling. I like Natasha Henstridge as a lead (Ice Cube doesn't work for me at all though) and the soundtrack is awesome. Not to mention the cool miniature shots of the train. I also see it a bit as a Escape from NY/LA sequel as it does have the same vibe. Snake is just off on his own adventure or just left.
One of my guilty pleasure films...and at least it's still Carpenter.

i feel like this one was some studio lackeys screwing up what could have been a masterpiece if made 10 years earlier. there was this hip cyber punk vibe at play i really dont appreciate. watch hackers, and the trailer for event horizon. hollywood thought movies had to feel like a london techno rave. i think if you had john record a score, messed with the lighting so it doesnt scream tv studio and found the broll gore, you could make something with a more hellraiser meets classic rock in space outlaw film. but i remember watching this and it felt like my childhood ended. i would have even taken an gangster rap sound track. i really hate that "editor is on meth" vibe i got from this movie.
This movie is so good, especially like when they get away in the train and the movie could've ended, but then decided to turn around and go back to the cursed town lolz 😂

I love Ghosts of Mars. My favourite guilty pleasure style of film is that Starship Troopers, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Anaconda, Escape from LA etc B Grade which GoM fits perfectly.
I have seen this movie, enjoyed watching it, at the time I thought it great, and I was disappointed it never got a sequel to it.
Now I strongly feel that the story of (GHOSTS OF MARS) should be made into a show series.
I use this as movie background noise or to fall asleep to and also watch it as a guilty pleasure

Most critics just didn't get John Carpenter, that was their loss, I always did and have always been a fan.
A hodge podge of every John Carpenter movie made prior. Not in a fun way like Rise of Skywalker, but in more of a random way. In that movie, everything but the main story was consistant and well done. With this, the only consistancy is John Carpenter's terrific direction.
The 90's were SNL's second golden age. This skit more relevant today than ever
Aww, what a nice surprise for my Friday evening. lol For all it's cheese, and there is A LOT of it, I somehow managed to get hooked on this movie. On to the video.
John Carpenter is the best director. Easily.
An interesting Easter Egg is the weapons Ice Cube is using at 6:33 are very rare Franchi Sub machine guns finished in chrome. The very same used by Rock Hudson and others in the Martian Chronicles" TV Mini-Series ( Another popular Mars human encountering ghosts story). As these weapons and props are so rare and obscure, it isn't a coincidence.
As usual Carpenter was far ahead of his time. We're at the point now where every movie that comes out has to be an Oscar worthy cinematic masterpiece and considered fine art. So an old school dumb fun action flick never to be taken seriously is a breath of fresh air.
Just like neon maniacs this movie will always be one of my favorite guilty pleasures. It’s amazing to see all of these actors so early in their careers.
Man this was a great movie when it came out. To a bunch of high school fresh men it was really fun. It was like a video game. Ice cube, Natasha from species and Pam Grier i was all about it. The name desolation Williams was good too. A remake would do great.

I actually remember seeing this first time not having clue what was about and I enjoyed particularly up to when the bad guys or ghosts were introduced. The lead up I thought was good and had me thinking.
OMG. Until you flashed that clip at the beginning, I totally forgot Burying the Ex was Joe Dante's last directing effort.
For some reason I've always been fond of this movie, takes me back to the early 2000s being a kid and this is just one of those random movies I didn't forget. It's got that good kind of 90s 2000s cheese.
I've not seen this in years. I need to revisit.

It’s a fun film. I watched it ALL the time when it was HBO as a kid.
Saw this in the cinema when it came out. Its just exactly what is says on the tin and was an absolute hoot. A classic ? No.... Great cheesy fun? Definitely. Always enjoyed it, and never been bored rewatching it.

Tarantino is wrong about directors losing their touch as they get old. Kurosawa was still making pure gold in his eighties. And Clint Eastwood directed his best film (American Sniper) in his golden years. John Carpenter likewise kept making good movies into the 90s they're just underappreciated. It's a crying shame he retired from directing

Yeah, for me, it felt more like Assault on Precinct 13 than Escape from NY/LA.

Oh yeah, its 75 percent a Precinct 13 remake. Same characters, similar story, same antihero.
@@derekderewal3876 Even the very last shot of the two survivors walking away was practically the same. Carpenter always had an obsession with Howard Hawkes’s Rio Bravo.
Saw this movie a month ago liked it , Love how the bad guy is a just a cloud and a menacing one at that.

It's like they expect something from the movie but nobody including themselves can even figure out. Whenever something is critically panned I want to go see it even more usually lolz

While it fails as a film, GoM at least serves as a jokey compendium of Carpenter´s filmography: the siege scenario of Assault on Precinct 13; the possession motif (and visual effects) of Prince of Darkness mixed up with the alien transformation theme of The Thing; the mass brawls of Big Trouble in Little China; the bone-dry, borderline self-parody of an action hero of the Snake Plissken pictures; the legitimately poor, unresolved endings of too many films in his back catalogue....
I want to know about Scream 4. I remember it was when more serious scary movies were in theaters.
