If "Slice of Life" represents the show at its most wild and zany, "Sparkle's Seven" represents the show at its most grounded and sincere. Both make for excellent companion pieces.
Wild and Zany referring to the many different and exotic fans of the show that 'Slice of Life' pays tribute to. And Grounded and Sincere being in tribute to the honest working voice actors who go out of their way to bring such great characters to life. More so as the story of 'Sparkle's Seven' was done by them.
You know, it's funny, with the joke that about how useless the Royal Guard is, and after seeing this episode, and all the stuff they did to improve things, having Zepher Breeze join the guard, and still not be able to protect a tinfoil crown, the first thing I thought was "Josh Scorcher is gonna have an aneurysm."

I'm really glad they finally addressed weather or not Spike was raised _in_ the Sparkle household. Frankly it's a few years late but t least we get some confirmation. And I totally agree with the getting annoyed by fan reaction to every little thing. It's one of the reasons I dropped away from the fandom in general. People flipping out or grinding certain subjects to a nub was killing my enthusiasm for what to me has always just been a cute show I really enjoy watching.
The 200th episode was awesome, it sure had some interesting parts like when the Mane 6 made their plan and they did all those fantasy sequences, and then there was the part where RD distracted Zephyr Breeze, i must admit, for a while i thought i was the only one who thought RD's get up made her look like Meg from Hercules.
I doubt it. It wasn't even funnier/crazier than Rarity Investigate or Make new Friends but Keep Discord. It was a basic heist movie parody and comics recently did something similar with "Luna's Five"
Something I think should be brought to attention is the apparently ongoing grudge between the princesses, and Luna has a smaller throne when they are supposed to be equals. This isn't good for the ponies when Grogar is building a villain team.

I couldn't contain myself by the end of the episode. When Luna appeared caressing that goose, I burst into laughter. Not that I haven't already been laughing before, but that was the water drop that made the cup spill. lol I had to pause the episode and go back a couple times to rewatch the scene. That was hysterical for me. XD Also, the word was "swooning", after all. I heard "spooning" when I was watching it. It felt SO weird to hear that, but I'm glad I just misheard it. lol Hands down one of the funniest episodes in the whole series, so far!
I loved this episode more than I did Slice of Life. My favorite parts were, by far, Spike and Luna being in cahoots with one another the whole time and we didn't know until the end. I loved the interactions with the mane 6 and Shining actually being better than he was in previous episodes. He's like one of those villains who are one step ahead of the hero (despite Shining just being a sibling, not a villain); only for Spike to outthink him. Two grown ponies being outsmarted by a baby dragon; if it wasn't Twilight's teachings, then Spike is picking up more than they're letting on and it can be quite scary. lol. And the moment Zephyr Breeze came into the scene, I was shocked. And if the timing couldn't be so perfect, both Rainbow Dash and I said his name at the same time. That got a giggle out of me. And, I was not aware of Rainbow dressing up as Meg from Hercules until a friend of mine pointed it out. And, as usual, I still don't like Zypher Breeze and I got bad vibes when he was on top of Rainbow. Yeesh. But, all in all, this was an amazing episode and Season 9 is getting pretty good despite having only 4 episodes out. :) Oh, and, Luna is best James Bond villain. I give this episode a 9/10
Applejack's alter ego reminded me of Hector's story from Disney's Coco. Wanted to be a musician, got famous, then left everything behind to go back to family.
I just thought of something while watching this... The whole thing with Apple Core, the persona Applejack made up... What if that's related to her mother? Like, think about it. Most children want to take after their parents. Sometimes one, sometimes both. What if that story was her, in a way, expressing an inner want to be like her mother? Who we've seen is damn good at playing the guitar (which doesn't come without practise and passion). What if she also wants to sing like her mother did? But she can't, because she's too busy with the farm (something from her father) and being on call for Friendship problems and villains. ... It makes me a bit sad to think about...
Hey Docter wolf after you said that Pegasus culture represented ancient Greek . I went and look back a couple episodes from clouds dale and actually that makes sense the pillars of every structure had the same design from Greece that is a very awesome analysis 👍

TBH, I only opened this video to see Josh's salty thoughts on the presentation of the guards, and I was not disappointed. During my first watch of the episode I was practically counting the points where he would be cringing.
I loved most of the episode. The one part I didn't like was the part with Zephyr, but luckily it ended before it could do any real harm to the rest of the episode.
One of the details that really stood out to me was the baobab covered planet in Pinkie's space fantasy. It was a nice reference to Antoine Saint Exuperi.
To me the mark of a really good episode is the little details that you can catch on a re-watch. The fact that baby spike was essentially drawing on the wall, but he was trying to add himself to the chart. I even loved that little detail of when pinkie pie had the space helmet on and she was reenacting what happened to the balloon her spit was showing in the bowl and was collecting in the bottom.
I can think of no better way to celebrate this milestone than to give the actresses themselves a chance to make the episode's story. I salute them all :)
i just realized something...were 3-4 episodes in, and we havent seen nor heard mention of scootaloo 'once' RD didnt even bring her up during the thing with sombra...and im starting to wonder...did something happen to her? we saw both of the other cmc during the thing with sombra, but we did not see scootaloo....
Yes! I wasn't the only one who though Meg from Hercules with Rainbow's outfit ^_^. The faces, I had trouble figuring out who was making the most wild face. Then Luna at the end with her smug look when Celestia's all "threats from the inside" lol. It was different. Whenever I see that image of Luna on the throne, stroking one of those pink geese, I'm still going to be calling her Queen of Hearts Godfather of Wonderland.
Twilight showed why she shouldn't rule. She abandoned her duties/job/responsibilities for a silly competition. Luckily Starlight knows what is more important.
In that case, Shining Armor shouldn't rule the Crystal Empire or be Captain of the Royal Guard, not to mention marrying a princess and being a father, since he was the one who instigated this challenge in the first place.
To me spike's and twilight's relationship is more a kin to Nani's and Lilo's relationship an older sibling who is the legal guardian of the younger sibling where they act like mother and child at one minute than annoying siblings at each others throats the next minute

I would have liked it more if Zephyr Breeze had returned with something like his last comic appearance. Otherwise, this episode was pretty much perfect. Favorite Moment was Fluttershy and Spike envisioned as secret agents - too bad they didn't act like that in reality, too.
What I like: Twilight's forever face, Luna petting the goose like a bond villainess, Twilight and Shining Armor addressing Spike as their brother. What I don't like: Spike puncturing the balloon while Pinkie was still in it.
it's only the male Royal Guards that are incompetent, right? I mean, when Pinkie threw the surprise party, it was all male guards who went to it. The one with Apple Chord had some of the female guards but that was more out of curiosity of what was going on. The Pinkie party one, they could have ignored it, but it was the male guards that totally got bamboozled. Right?
I think it was great that this was actually a kind of subtle episode giving clues to the "twist" at the end. Spike explains the rivalry at the beginning and you see baby spike sit under the Chart with the stars, drawing Stars on his own account and I was like "Awwww he wanted to take part but couldn't, later they make it more explicit when Spike talks to Fluttershy, but I really enjoyed that little detail at the beginning ^^ I also enjoyed how they too shots from the song that first explained their relationship back in a royal wedding (he taught me how to fly a kite e.g.) and then turned them (him trowing her kite off course lol)
Midnight: And his wife throws a baby griffin at his face! Thespio: And I CATCH the baby griffin! XD! But yes, this episode was hilarious and seeing Zephyr again was the best part. Spike will always be the little brother of the main group. He is still my most favorite character.
Spike did get a lot of attention for this episode. Striking a deal with Luna to get the crown. He becomes one with his family. And now he is the victim in the shows biggest animation error
Going back to an old fan idea. I really think Rainbow Dash should have been the element of Honesty. She's blunt and open about her opinions, even if it hurts someone's feelings on accident, where-as AppleJack should have been the element of Loyality. What with her dedication to farm, family and friends. There would have been far less issues with AJs actions over the years if those had been swapped.
Note to self: please don’t give Lightning Bliss a salted cracker, because I do agree of her, but my next drawing isn’t One thing about say to Celestia and Luna: the sibling rivalry is still in progress
If there are so many secret underground passages why was it so hard for Cadence to escape them in a Canterlot wedding? Also shouldn't that ep have been the wake-up call to inside threats?
Those passages are in the basement of the castle. Cadance was trapped all the way in the crystal mine probably even deeper in the mountain under the castle basement.
Anyone notice a much easier plan to take the crown? That only takes two characters? Twilight teleports to the window into the throne room with Spike. He cuts in, she steps in, puts a soundproofing spell around the geese and teleports the crown to herself, steps out, leaves with Spike. Seriously, the palace only prevented magic from being used to get inside, not on or in it.
One of my main problem was shining armor’s plan is the fact that he put a trap door in front of the throne what is the what if Celestia decides to walk off her throneOr a dignitary or representative comes up as a greet her and falls through the trap door 🚪 She’ll probably Get in trouble and they will declare war
They will probably deactivate it during court. I have more issue with Shining setting up a trap door on the floor when so many creatures in this world can just fly.
Amazing episode! But the sad truth, is that MLP has shown more about the Twilight-Shinning backstory than Cadence-Shinnig backstory. Maybe an episode of how they met and fell in love this season? Or, if not, a full Cadence backstory episode, with bits about her relationship with Shinning.
I just realised I have never actually watched an MLP episode with you guys. In fact, I have always watched MLP episodes on my own on their initial release.
Flaws in shinings defense system: Changeling could easily go in: Chrysalis Not explosion Proof: Tirek & Grogar Technically twilight didn't lose and spike haven't won the game yet. The rule/objective was get in, steal the crown, aaand "get out safely"'. It's like capture the flag, shining just said "ha!, I caught you" and called himself a winner. If the rule was to caught twilight on the act of stealing the crown, then it's not a fair game because shining could just stood at the throne and waited.

I haven't watched this review yet and I'm sure Firebrand has some good rants, but I just wanted to say that the main thing I learned from the episode is not to let scriptwriters design security measures. Everyone knows it's trivial to get past the guards, which gets you into the castle. The anti-magic only works on the border to prevent entry; to prevent it from interfering with the people who live there it doesn't interfere with magic inside the castle. That means that once inside they could have just teleported to the throne room, grabbed the crown, and teleported out, in like half a second. Other possibilities include getting a changeling to help (they can turn into geese or impersonate guards better than Rarity can), tricking them into taking the EqG mirror back in (if Twilight is going to become the ruler of Equestria she might want to move to Canterlot for it), going in at night when Shining personally is asleep, fake a Map call to the castle again, etc. The only real security measure of the lot was the guards' badges and to a lesser extent the anti-magic.
i loved the episode and i liked that the VAs got to put their input for the episode and it works so well and 200 is a big feat not many half hour cartoons make it to that far (i don't count 11 minute episodes those are a different category)
I loved the ending. Spike revealing his inside pony was Luna and then just showing her sitting villainously while petting a goose was hilarious. Add to that his reveal of how the two of them subtly manipulated everyone to reach this exact conclusion just left everyone in shock, mouth agape. This might have been a fun competition, but I think they all just realized that, if he put his mind to it, Spike could truly be an evil mastermind capable of taking over Equestria. So, first Cozy Glow and now Spike. Will the Cake Twins be next to orchestrate a takeover of Equestria?
Watching this episode my brain jumped to captain cold from the flash with his heist rules. 1.Make the plan 2.execute the plan 3. Expect the plan to go off the rails 4. Throw away the plan

One of the details that really stood out to me was the baobab covered planet in Pinkie's space fantasy. It was a nice reference to Antoine Saint Exuperi.

To me the mark of a really good episode is the little details that you can catch on a re-watch.
The fact that baby spike was essentially drawing on the wall, but he was trying to add himself to the chart.
I even loved that little detail of when pinkie pie had the space helmet on and she was reenacting what happened to the balloon her spit was showing in the bowl and was collecting in the bottom.

i just realized something...were 3-4 episodes in, and we havent seen nor heard mention of scootaloo 'once' RD didnt even bring her up during the thing with sombra...and im starting to wonder...did something happen to her? we saw both of the other cmc during the thing with sombra, but we did not see scootaloo....

Yes! I wasn't the only one who though Meg from Hercules with Rainbow's outfit ^_^. The faces, I had trouble figuring out who was making the most wild face. Then Luna at the end with her smug look when Celestia's all "threats from the inside" lol. It was different. Whenever I see that image of Luna on the throne, stroking one of those pink geese, I'm still going to be calling her Queen of Hearts Godfather of Wonderland.

Twilight showed why she shouldn't rule. She abandoned her duties/job/responsibilities for a silly competition.
Luckily Starlight knows what is more important.
In that case, Shining Armor shouldn't rule the Crystal Empire or be Captain of the Royal Guard, not to mention marrying a princess and being a father, since he was the one who instigated this challenge in the first place.

To me spike's and twilight's relationship is more a kin to Nani's and Lilo's relationship an older sibling who is the legal guardian of the younger sibling where they act like mother and child at one minute than annoying siblings at each others throats the next minute

I would have liked it more if Zephyr Breeze had returned with something like his last comic appearance.
Otherwise, this episode was pretty much perfect. Favorite Moment was Fluttershy and Spike envisioned as secret agents - too bad they didn't act like that in reality, too.
What I like: Twilight's forever face, Luna petting the goose like a bond villainess, Twilight and Shining Armor addressing Spike as their brother. What I don't like: Spike puncturing the balloon while Pinkie was still in it.
it's only the male Royal Guards that are incompetent, right? I mean, when Pinkie threw the surprise party, it was all male guards who went to it. The one with Apple Chord had some of the female guards but that was more out of curiosity of what was going on. The Pinkie party one, they could have ignored it, but it was the male guards that totally got bamboozled. Right?
I think it was great that this was actually a kind of subtle episode giving clues to the "twist" at the end. Spike explains the rivalry at the beginning and you see baby spike sit under the Chart with the stars, drawing Stars on his own account and I was like "Awwww he wanted to take part but couldn't, later they make it more explicit when Spike talks to Fluttershy, but I really enjoyed that little detail at the beginning ^^
I also enjoyed how they too shots from the song that first explained their relationship back in a royal wedding (he taught me how to fly a kite e.g.) and then turned them (him trowing her kite off course lol)

Going back to an old fan idea. I really think Rainbow Dash should have been the element of Honesty. She's blunt and open about her opinions, even if it hurts someone's feelings on accident, where-as AppleJack should have been the element of Loyality. What with her dedication to farm, family and friends. There would have been far less issues with AJs actions over the years if those had been swapped.

If there are so many secret underground passages why was it so hard for Cadence to escape them in a Canterlot wedding? Also shouldn't that ep have been the wake-up call to inside threats?
Those passages are in the basement of the castle. Cadance was trapped all the way in the crystal mine probably even deeper in the mountain under the castle basement.

Twilight teleports to the window into the throne room with Spike. He cuts in, she steps in, puts a soundproofing spell around the geese and teleports the crown to herself, steps out, leaves with Spike. Seriously, the palace only prevented magic from being used to get inside, not on or in it.
One of my main problem was shining armor’s plan is the fact that he put a trap door in front of the throne what is the what if Celestia decides to walk off her throneOr a dignitary or representative comes up as a greet her and falls through the trap door 🚪 She’ll probably Get in trouble and they will declare war
They will probably deactivate it during court. I have more issue with Shining setting up a trap door on the floor when so many creatures in this world can just fly.
It was actually Tabitha St. Germain who came up with the idea of this episode being a heist.

But the sad truth, is that MLP has shown more about the Twilight-Shinning backstory than Cadence-Shinnig backstory.
Maybe an episode of how they met and fell in love this season? Or, if not, a full Cadence backstory episode, with bits about her relationship with Shinning.

Technically twilight didn't lose and spike haven't won the game yet. The rule/objective was get in, steal the crown, aaand "get out safely"'. It's like capture the flag, shining just said "ha!, I caught you" and called himself a winner. If the rule was to caught twilight on the act of stealing the crown, then it's not a fair game because shining could just stood at the throne and waited.

I haven't watched this review yet and I'm sure Firebrand has some good rants, but I just wanted to say that the main thing I learned from the episode is not to let scriptwriters design security measures. Everyone knows it's trivial to get past the guards, which gets you into the castle. The anti-magic only works on the border to prevent entry; to prevent it from interfering with the people who live there it doesn't interfere with magic inside the castle. That means that once inside they could have just teleported to the throne room, grabbed the crown, and teleported out, in like half a second.
Other possibilities include getting a changeling to help (they can turn into geese or impersonate guards better than Rarity can), tricking them into taking the EqG mirror back in (if Twilight is going to become the ruler of Equestria she might want to move to Canterlot for it), going in at night when Shining personally is asleep, fake a Map call to the castle again, etc. The only real security measure of the lot was the guards' badges and to a lesser extent the anti-magic.
i loved the episode and i liked that the VAs got to put their input for the episode and it works so well and 200 is a big feat not many half hour cartoons make it to that far (i don't count 11 minute episodes those are a different category)
When i saw. Zeper or whatever his name is i was all like "woah woah Woah slow down there cassanova"!
Zephyr and yeah that scene was really pushing the boundaries.
My favorite part was Luna and rarity.
I loved the ending. Spike revealing his inside pony was Luna and then just showing her sitting villainously while petting a goose was hilarious. Add to that his reveal of how the two of them subtly manipulated everyone to reach this exact conclusion just left everyone in shock, mouth agape. This might have been a fun competition, but I think they all just realized that, if he put his mind to it, Spike could truly be an evil mastermind capable of taking over Equestria.
So, first Cozy Glow and now Spike. Will the Cake Twins be next to orchestrate a takeover of Equestria?
