  • Hi!!
    I’m Lee, an American living and working in Ireland with my daughter and menagerie of pets.
    Lots of you have requested a video tour of my tiny cottage, so here you go! It’s small and quirky and I love it. I dreamed of living in a cottage like this as long as I can remember. One day, I hope to own one just like this (or even this one, if it was possible)!
    Let me know what you think!
    Thanks for being here.
    Xx
    Lee

    Love your dog, and cat! I too am surrounded by my precious things in my home. I live alone with my black rescue greyhound Madge, and I do find it tricky at times to get things done, as a) I do not want to injure myself and b) it costs me money if I do have to get someone in to help me. Due to my anxiety, I only go out of my home to walk my dog, but I live in a lovely rural area, so love my walks in nature with her. I sold my car, as I was not using it. I do have to order all I need online, but I do not need much. I am 66 years young, and love arts and crafts, and animals, and nature. Ireland is a beautiful place to live - I live in West Devon, England, which is also beautiful. Did not know why you could not show the outside of your lovely cottage? Is it because you rent it, and the landlord would not want folk to see it? Would love to see your garden too. Love and Blessings to you from a hot West Devon, England, and Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound. xxx

      I too sold my car as I couldn't afford it since my wife died, I rely on online shopping also. I live in rural Ireland and it's a 3 hour walk to the Post Office, but I love it in the Summer. I have been lucky enough to meet someone and she has moved in with me and we are enjoying making a new life and are decorating. The cottage is circa 1800 so always needs things doing to it, but I love it. Nature is so healing and I wish you well on your journey, and lots of good fortune and positivity for the times ahead.

    What a dear little place. I too dreamed of living in a similar place when I was a teenager but it never came to be. I bought a large rambling old house in the country, but it has no charm, but after seeing your video, I am inspired, maybe I can create some charm.
    Your little place has such a wonderful vibe and your animas are content.
    Just wondered if you know what the blue colouring is called that's on the cupboards and upper shelves next to the stove? Love it, looks like a lovely old shade of blue.
    Thanks for the tour!! Happy Irish cottaging. xxx. ps. I hope oneday it will be yours.

    Fab! You can keep rooms warmer less drafty by putting that silver insulated sheet u buy for car windscreens on windows at night, reflective side into room. Get it tight in all edges, bit of duct tape holds it & re seals for ages. Get a more modern efficient stove, tho landlord shud pay as its a fixture, they are cheap on donedealetc, line chimney, so proper advice on it is best. But till then u can hire chimney brushes with a hook plus a brush head at tool hire place, pull all nest stuff out into room, its easy, then brush it out, get a grate if there isnt one so ashes fall tru, & air gets under. Get a ton of coal & kiln dry wood , you're set & independant for winter if electricity goes. Id do all chimneys, to be safe, dont want a spark going down into another flue... get chimney baloons for bedrooms seals draft. Get a gas hob at least if not a gas cooker & if no electricity u can cook. Best of luck! Love your attitude & determination, Best i stop now too, lol!😂

    • @Jmg8-vm8me
      @Jmg8-vm8me 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yea, finally sorry😂 u can get cheap coal delivered from N.irl. lots of places will. Much cheaper than buying it locally! If u don't cut off electricity get a pressure cooker & airfreight, that cooker is expensive to run. Plus that oil filled heater will bankrupt u. I'd just get a gas one, look at new ones from irish gas suppliers,different outputs, they're mobile & use same gas bottle as a gas cooker. U might gas from the North too, to start anyway, hav 2 bottles so one always full. Will last ages just cooking, but if on every day for heater say 4 or 5 hours will last couple weeks depends, its under 30euro a bottle, the big yellow/orange ones at petrol stations, about 2ft tall type. Empty milk n butter cartons r great for reliable firelighting, only open fire, it'll cause creosote build up in stove flue. 🎉make cards gifts for kids parties, friends, teaches crafting & budget skills. Get your citizenships ASAP is best. Love your gaeilge it sounds lovely, great pronunciation. 👍

    • @Jmg8-vm8me
      @Jmg8-vm8me 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just put down some pallets, put fuel on top. Cover with a tarp, put heavy rocks, extra pallets, etc on tarp to keep it from blowing away. U can even put pallets on end to form low walls. That will do for now, really weigh it down though or it WILL blow away in strong wind😅pallets are usually free or very cheap. It's just rented so don't spend on fixtures u can't take away. I like that you're authentic in presenting your home, it looks fine & eclectic, u do u😊

  • @Jmg8-vm8me
    @Jmg8-vm8me 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    A mix of kiln dry wood with coal is cheaper & warmer in open fire, wood for stove is cleaner for flue. U can just get a tarp & weigh it down if you've no shed. Also close & put reflector thing on loft door & gaps around it too when not used as heat will rise & escape up there. I've put the insulated reflectors under sheets & facing down in duvet covers too, so snug. I think it comes in big rolls too. Hot water bottles like 2 or 3 each. Thermal underwear & lots layers. Gas portable heaters cheap, good for bathroom but only for heating it for showers then off not on all the time. Gas is a good one, use a big wide top bowl water on top of heater it absorbs fumes. Maybe post more often they say that boosts subscribers, plus you hav lots to share , lots are in yr position or worse u know. If u post some creative type stuff like making mending, arty crafty stuff, you'll do well it can be linked into the current theme easily. Love how u protect child's privacy too, good for u! Don't think me too 'lectury' I just wanted to giv u benefit of experience, SAVE for contingency & goals. Live frugal to that end cut treats, cinema, it adds up. Free movies online.

    Oh and maybe go to a builder or builders providers & buy roll of insulation tape it over back door covering gaps & tape onto walls, stuff outside back door floor too plus internally. Just use front door for winter. You'll thank me. You will save like 10g a year if u SAVE like a demon, cut all not completely essential cost, just keep; food, phone, car,( plus maintenance but that comes outta savings) fuel, 1 to 2 treats each a weekend. Yes cut off electricity get a very large powerbank, with solar if possible, (off grid bruce's type) if u go off grid buy a full gas cooker(cheap 2nd hand or free) youll save like 10g a year, if there are extra costs like medical or education pay them. Cut off all extras, & youll be nearer your home owning goal, plus budget for daughters university costs, u can do it look what youve done to date, maybe get a lodger & share yr room with daughter, this housing crisis must help u too... u can give grinds( private lessons) in english youve a degree, all %£ in hand... 😅😅😅

    • @Jmg8-vm8me
      @Jmg8-vm8me 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh & get led lights to charge from powerbank, u don't need the cost of electricity then. Just put gas cooker somewhere near external wall if possible leave gas drum outdoors, pipe tru wall or maybe where cat litter is cud b the cooker there

    • @Jmg8-vm8me
      @Jmg8-vm8me 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Private lessons for junior/leaving cert I mean, just get the past exam papers free to view online, get the current curriculum books, poetry & u r all set, don't need b a working teacher for private grinds as the English lit degree supersedes it , you're just tutoring, even with all that you'll prob b under threshold so keep track n pay tax if needed,

    Greetings from fellow American expats living in a small village in Southwestern France. Your video is great as it shows a true picture of life in rural Europe. What a terrific cottage and not being in France it is not wallpapered everywhere to include ceilings and doors. One thing that has made a huge difference to us was the installation of our Wood Stove. I highly recommend that you get one installed as it makes our stone cottage far more comfortable and helps keep down the moisture. Try to get a modern eco stove as it will maximize your heat and minimize the amount of fuel needed. We love our multi-fuel eco Hobbit Stove from Salamander Stoves. Please keep up the good work as we love your videos!

I’m from Irish descent, and daydream about living in a cottage, but I dream that from here in Kentucky. I do admit, I watch a lot of documentaries & movies about Ireland…one of which is the Secret of Roan Inish ❤️ Enjoy living your dream, and I look forward to more videos 😊🐭

      Oh I love that film!! It’s good to dream. I dreamt of this for many years and it became my reality. I dream of a forever home too. It’ll come one day! I keep talking to it, telling it I’m getting ready and money will come so we can be together, as if the home is just waiting for me. 💛💛💛

    I love your home and it’s wonderful that you are so proud of it. Why shouldn’t you be. I also have a little house and most of my furniture was my Mum’s, handed down to me when she passed away. Some of my friends are wealthy and I have the feeling they feel sorry for me in my little hodge lodge, quirky house but to me, it’s my sanctuary and I wouldn’t swap it for anything grander. Keep being your lovely , grateful self. Keep living your dream. It’s so romantic ❤
