They are underrated because the media at that time portrayed them as a trashy band that produce poppy catchy cheap music...and the only thing they have is their good looking face. Sad, they're truly brilliant. Fuck the media.
Blur are quite a misunderstood band. Most of their best songs were album tracks. Lots of people only know them for the singles but they dont tell half the story. My favourite band ever, their catalogue is up there with Bowie's and The Beatles.
I can see why you could think that. But I don't think he's been patronising about people stuck in dead-end jobs. He's talking about people in their 20s who are trying to find their way in life, through desperate nights out in London/Soho etc, and reflecting on the sadness and uncertainty that mixes with the lust for life. The 'London Yo-Yos' are the people out in the West End trying to find thrills, who usually end up in a come down cab or bus ride back home across the river.
I literally cried first time I heard this. I was in my room late at night watching the full show and was in the most melancholic and nostalgic mood and when it came time for them to play this song I was done. Lol
All the albums have aged very well, I was in my teens for the life trilogy albums along with my moody adolescence and melancholy….I appreciate all of them even more aged 43 👍
In interviews Damon tends to dismiss The Great Escape but I think that it's perhaps even better than Parklife. I tend to think of them together as Part 1 and Part 2, like Rubber Soul and Revolver.
I love how they use string and brass sections alot!!! Gorillaz even had Syrian National Orchestra and Sinfonia VIVA on Escape to Plastic Beach Tour. Love it!!!
It is striking how much this song and UTW have in common, musically and thematically. I like to think of UTW as a sequel to Best Days, Essentially, the same person (Damon) standing in the same place, but older, wiser and with a slightly different outlook. Both him and the world around him changed dramatically, yet everything somehow remains the same.
Blur are pure genius and emotions.not one song is useless or without a reason. best band all time just after Beatles. thank you for the best days of our lives ❤
Door bells say goodbye to the last train Over the river they all go again Out into leafy nowhere hope someone's waiting out there for them Cabbie has his mind on a fare to the sun He works nights but it's not much fun Picks up the london yo-yos All on their own down soho Take me home Other people wouldn't like to hear you If you said that these are the best days of their lives Other people turn around and laugh at you If you said that these are the best days of our lives Trellick tower's been calling I know she'll leave me in the morning In hotel cells listening to dull tones Remote controls and cable moans In his drink he's been talking Gets disconnected sleepwalking back home Other people wouldn't like to hear you If you said that these are the best days of our lives Other people turn around and laugh at you If you said that these are the best days of our lives, of our lives Other people wouldn't like to hear you If you said that these are the best days of our lives Other people turn around and laugh at you If you said that these are the best days of our lives Other people break into a cold sweat If you said that these are the best days of their lives And other people turn around and laugh at you If you said that these are the best days of our lives, of our lives
ZERO people have bad taste in music here apparently : ) So beautiful... this song takes me back to what seemed like the best days of my life. Hoping for at least a tie ahead.
Is this the only live version of this great song??? Love to see them play this in main concerts, preferably with live strings including both Under the Westway and The Universal.
and probably a comment on how lonely mid 90's celebrity and London scene was. He puts in references to the cab driver and the fare to The Sun, probably in reference to the tabloid paper. Maybe I'm looking too far into it.
Dunno, I guess I see it as someone (Blur) getting the message out to people. It's not just a song about the regular life, it's a critique of that life and maybe even a wake-up call - if you realize you're stuck going in circles, you now atleast have the option to stop or keep going. Going out on a limb, the tone of the song is mournful which might indicate he's not glad that these people are people stuck in a rut of their 'best days'. Possibly even a warning to the future generation? Who knows.
It could easily have been written by Damon looking at someone like Graham. From the outside most people would be saying "You're now a millionaire, you've won tons of awards, you should be the happiest man in the world", when under the covers Graham was trying to kill himself by jumping out of a window and getting run over by cabs in Camden Town!
@lotsoftea what are u on about he writes straight from his heart n soul! Always has and still does now , if u listen to later stuff u will know that! This was the britpop era which ended with a battle with Oasis then Damon says he wrote very differently! Thank god cause the last 2 albums were the best! He's a genius
How do you work out that song is about that? From my point of view it's about the fear that Justine is about to leave him any day soon and he feels bad about moaning about his life because everyone thinks he (or the character portrayed in the song) seemingly seems to be living "the best days of their lives".
Blur's most underrated song
everysong except song 2 ;d
thats mean we're have a good taste of music
That's not how you spell "Far Out".
i always feel that Blur is the most underrated band in history man
along with HTOC & Yuko & Hero
Beatles and blur is on the same level of creativity.
Never sounding the same on every single song they make.
Britain's two finest ever bands
It's held constant by Albarns vocals and coxons guitar, both are unique in their respective fields
Damon's an underrated genius, if he was at least 10 years younger I think he would be more recognized internationally
@@riquiffer I think he still is quite recognized but with Gorillaz
@@robsdianten1 yes buy Gorillaz is a virtual band and most people don't know who the real singer is
It's so underrated. Blur is one of the most underrated bands (except by song 2) and it's a shame, because they are amazing
They are underrated because the media at that time portrayed them as a trashy band that produce poppy catchy cheap music...and the only thing they have is their good looking face. Sad, they're truly brilliant. Fuck the media.
You're right. I was fortunate enough to be there in the UK in 95. They were appreciated there
Blur are quite a misunderstood band. Most of their best songs were album tracks. Lots of people only know them for the singles but they dont tell half the story.
My favourite band ever, their catalogue is up there with Bowie's and The Beatles.
I would rather listen Blur as underrated band
@@phuongthaotran4973 a vietnamese blur fan? same here

This song just made me cry ... So convenient at this point of my adolescent life.
Now you're an adult. I hope you're doing amazing and still liking Blur.
Just got chills
@@kiarac.f.2183 this is such a sweet comment 😭
I literally cried first time I heard this. I was in my room late at night watching the full show and was in the most melancholic and nostalgic mood and when it came time for them to play this song I was done. Lol
Love it! Damon looks like an angel.
내가 가장 좋아하는 블러 노래.... 오랜만에 들으러 왔다. 역시 너무 좋다..
All the albums have aged very well, I was in my teens for the life trilogy albums along with my moody adolescence and melancholy….I appreciate all of them even more aged 43 👍
Exactly the same.
my favourite track from the Great Escape album
My fave of the album too, since the days the album came out. And after so many years my love for this song hasn't changed.
I've cried almost every time I listen to this song.
1996? I was a lonely teen. Great song ! Don't worry, life improves.
other people wouldn't like to hear me if i said that there have been the best 20 years of my life... thanks Blur
+Paloma Valencia ha great comment :)
Especially given the lack of literacy.
Just dug out The Great Escape again after so many years, and really loving it. Especially this track....
In interviews Damon tends to dismiss The Great Escape but I think that it's perhaps even better than Parklife. I tend to think of them together as Part 1 and Part 2, like Rubber Soul and Revolver.
this one and "You're so Great" are the best Blur songs..
2022, and still agree with this!
Blur have such a range. Best thing about them is they are not averse to experiment with each album
Blur at their best! ..What a wonderful song!
I love how they use string and brass sections alot!!!
Gorillaz even had Syrian National Orchestra and Sinfonia VIVA on Escape to Plastic Beach Tour. Love it!!!
Damon Albarn is a genius
I never get tired of this song! 3
this song hits differently now that I am not a teenager anymore
Never forgotten, masterpiece for Mr me have a good day everyone x
Ace, everything they do is magic ✨
Thanks to Blur for this great song!!!
Thanks to Damon, Graham, Alex and Dave
あらためて、味わい深い良い曲だな~と感じます。この時期はアイドル的な人気を博していた頃ですが、四人の真剣な表情はまさしくアーティストですね。生み出される声、演奏が本当に素晴らしいです。
Ouais, c'est pas faux.

If you said that these are the best days of their lives
Other people turn around and laugh at you
If you said that these are the best days of our lives
Trellick tower's been calling
I know she'll leave me in the morning
In hotel cells listening to dull tones
Remote controls and cable moans
In his drink he's been talking
Gets disconnected sleepwalking back home
Other people wouldn't like to hear you
If you said that these are the best days of our lives
Other people turn around and laugh at you
If you said that these are the best days of our lives, of our lives

So comforting such a nice song
Pura magia!
That's ridiculously good. This seems like the only liver version of this song as well which is a pity.
This song is so touching. Makes my heart leap. Love it so much. :')

Great album this came from
This sounds better than the studio version.
Interesting take, but I think the sun part is more likely about the cabbie wanting to go on holiday somewhere warm.
