He was 50 when the Blues Brothers movie was released in 1980! Definitely looked a lot younger. Matt "Guitar" Murphy passed away in 2018, at age 88. Rest in peace Legend!
I have seen the BB movie 100s of times and it just doesn't get old. I guess it's just a reminder when I was young and had my whole life still ahead of me.
She had all been about forgotten when she appeared in Blues Brothers. Her last three albums had bombed and she left Atlantic records. That performance in the movie reminded the public how great she was and she would go on to have a great 1980s. Blues Brothers also did the same for James Brown and Ray Charles and reintroduced Cab Calloway. That's why The Blues Brothers is one of the most important movies when it comes to music.
I saw this on HBO in 1982 and loved it. Ray Charles doing "Shake your tailfeather" was awesome. I still quote this movie....."We're the Good old blue brothers boys band........".....hahaha
One of the best scenes from one of the greatest movies ever made. To this day I still say "let's boogie" to myself wherever I'm ready to head out the door.
Back in the day, late 70s, in South Shore Massachusetts, I used to see Matt (Guitar) Murphy playing in a band with the Zaitchik Brothers, in a place called Illiums in West Bridgwater. Some of the best blues evah! They frickin killed it! They had this skinny little white heroin addict looking sax player who was incredible. He looked like he was going to keel over any second, but that kid was smoking. Matt always looked like he could bench 500 lbs and snap the neck off of his guitar like it was a matchstick. Gawd I miss those days. The music was so good back then. (sigh)
To anyone who says this isn't a musical y'all better know you're wrong possibly one of the greatest musicals RIP Matt Guitar Murphy the inimitable Aretha Franklin and John Belushi so much musical talents in this movie
One of my all-time favorite movie scenes. Aretha is at her best and Matt Murphy, not a professional actor, has a hard time keeping a straight face while Aretha pokes and grabs him. RIP Aretha and John.
Aretha has more voice than the saxophone. She could absolutely out sing anyone. Not my genre, but mad respect for her obvious talent. I also love that the Blues Brothers joined the choreographed part of the song. They're actively not on her side but has to join in.
I was born a year after this came out, in Chicago. This movie has all kinds of feelings for me. It will forever wrench my gut that these days are long gone. But, I will remember them fondly.
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to the Queen of soul Aretha Franklin 3 25. We miss you so much. No one can get us to Think, or pay attention to Respect the way only you can
My church's pastor loved this movie, he said it was theologically correct. The Bible is full of ordinary people being given extraordinary assignments by God, and God's favor makes them unstoppable!
I just think about Belushi and Aykroyd sitting on set, and how it must of felt for two men who very, very, very obviously *loved* this music to get to share the stage with the people who made that music what it was. I bet there were moment of pure, school-boyish bliss for them.
Aretha sings full sentences and it is heavenly. Only her. No other singer in the world touches this. In honor of Matt, I've been saying Let's Boogie since the day I first heard him.
As twisted as the Blues brothers is, I sure love this movie. Great talent, awesome songs, rytheme and blues.. Oh and heavy swag, always a fan of good clean comedy...
I remember watching this as a young kid like probably too young to be watching but this was my first introduction to Aretha Franklin outside of my mom listening to Respect (but when your a kid you don’t know artists lol) and my life was changed tbh this film is probably why I love jazz and blues
When your songs stand the test of time, and your videos can make me dance, it's pure gold! One of my favorites of all time. The Blues Brothers brought this country some love it sorely needed. A blockbuster hit! Thank you, Aretha Franklin! You're one of the greatest of all time!
Still love this film and still watch it regularly,,,pure classic ,most of the artist now passed including the backing group the funk brothers of the motown label,,,,,,its dark outside and we're wearing sunglasses
You mix John Landis with Belushi & Akroid and some of the best R&B artists in history, Princess Leia and a bunch of cocaine and you got one of the best movies of all time
The Greatest musical that ever could have been made................................. God I miss the 80s, I was only a Kid back then, but we had the best Shows, Movies and Cartoons................
Murphy ... just love how he can barely contain his smile the whole number. That shit-eating grin that just screams "holy crap, thats aretha franklin singing right in front me."
Easily the best movie ever! It has everything, from music to comedy to real life and equality. But most of all, We are on a mission from God and we are super cool.
Believe at the TOP of the best movie(s) ever made. 'The light was yellow officer.' Also, the mall destruction scene was a real mall under destruction/rebuild and were given opportunity to finish the 'job.'
Aretha was truly the Queen of Soul. What a voice! Rest Easy Aretha...❤
Over 40 yrs old and still sounds fresh, what a classic.
RIP Aretha 🙏❤
"The Blues Brothers? ... They still owe you money, Fool!" ... I LOVE Aretha!! ❤😎
He was 50 when the Blues Brothers movie was released in 1980! Definitely looked a lot younger. Matt "Guitar" Murphy passed away in 2018, at age 88. Rest in peace Legend!
Aretha was only 37 and looks older than Matt. She died the same year.
He was incredible, got to see him live in either the late 90's, or early 2000's, don't recall exactly.
Super nice guy as well.
I was 9 in late 1980, I now am older than he was back then. Gosh, time flies
totally kewl dude Sir R I P
Dude is a proper G
I have seen the BB movie 100s of times and it just doesn't get old. I guess it's just a reminder when I was young and had my whole life still ahead of me.
The pink slippers she wears while singing like a pure goddess a musical masterpiece, LOVE them! The whole scene!
To me, the hilarity of this scene is that Jake and Elwood join in with an endeavour that is designed to do them down. Pure class from start to finish.
The boys had soul
@@Spanner249and they were on a mission from God
@@michaeledwards8058🙏
But of course there is no reason not to have class and politness
Damn that woman can sing!! Love Jake and Elwood straight face dancing along 😂
Aretha will always be a favorite of mine . Her voice and style is beautiful !
She was the best.... and now Jennifer Hudson its on the same Level.... i love both

She is the ONLY one worthy of wearing the mantle of Ella Fitzgerald. No one could match these voices.
@@lisaahmari7199 Yes !!!!!
One of the best films in the history of cinematography. I watched it in 1981 and I still love it!!!
I saw this on HBO in 1982 and loved it. Ray Charles doing "Shake your tailfeather" was awesome. I still quote this movie....."We're the Good old blue brothers boys band........".....hahaha

So many legends in this movie, Aretha, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway etc.
She was THE BEST. She could sing circles around the singers we have now.
Art isn't a contest
Greatest moment: Jake and Elwood joining the dance without a glimpse of enthusiasm :-D
Daniele Bernardini
They are on a mission from God.
😁
Jake was the most enthusiastic even if it's Aretha Franklin.
Bende tıpkı senin gibi düşünüyorum
They couldn't deny the groove.
To anyone who says this isn't a musical y'all better know you're wrong possibly one of the greatest musicals RIP Matt Guitar Murphy the inimitable Aretha Franklin and John Belushi so much musical talents in this movie
Aretha! A power house. Every song she performed was spectacular!!!!!
I shit you not this still gives me goose bumps omd’s! What a voice
One of my all-time favorite movie scenes. Aretha is at her best and Matt Murphy, not a professional actor, has a hard time keeping a straight face while Aretha pokes and grabs him. RIP Aretha and John.
He has a hard time not smiling when she starts singing. Probably any musician would.
Thank god for subtitles:-)
@@samsatogardnerIf Aretha Franklin were belting in my face, I’d be hard pressed to keep a straight face, too!
That was a great movie and deserves a few thumbs up
..👍👍 Here is my love to Aretha and may she rest in peace. ♥♥ From Kathy👩👩
Was waaaaaay to young to have seen that movie. 😂😂😂😂😂 dam thing bleeeew my mind . . . . Brilliant
absolutely way over the top
even now ❗️👊🔥🥂
To the bone, for deepness.
The sax dude on the counter is the best.
Saw Matt in 1985 just outside of Bozeman Montana. He was legit. A great concert.
Aretha has more voice than the saxophone. She could absolutely out sing anyone. Not my genre, but mad respect for her obvious talent. I also love that the Blues Brothers joined the choreographed part of the song. They're actively not on her side but has to join in.
Moved by the soul.
This is my favorite scene in The Blues Brothers. Aretha was so great.
Actually I like the one where they had both kinds of music: Country and Western. :D
I remember the theatre I watched this in. What a loss with Belushi. Great musical!!
Aretha Franklin was the best who can match or top her voice. Miss her
Jennifer Hudson!
So many tracks in this film which would teach the new generation so so much 🙏
Toujours le même feeling... Un des rares film que j'ai plaisir à voir et re-voir.... Et ré-entendre, surtout.
RIP, John, Matt and Aretha.
A classic, will hold up... forever. RIP ❤ Miss Franklin and John gone too soon.
I am pretty sure it was Mrs Franklin
@@Blackadder75 no she was born Aretha Franklin. She was married twice but divorced in 1984
What a great movie !!
Classic Quality
The saxophone player will always be my favorite
Yes !! How wonderfully dirty his apron is!🤣😂🤣😂🤩
If you think you don't like musicals.
Try this movie.
Tons of talent filmed on a budget.
I didn't realize how much I miss these days gone by until I saw this video. Sweet memories man.
I was born a year after this came out, in Chicago. This movie has all kinds of feelings for me. It will forever wrench my gut that these days are long gone. But, I will remember them fondly.
I saw Matt Guitar Murphy in a bar in Boulder. A fun show.
The only musical I'll watch... with joy that is.
Aretha didn't have a voice but a weapon....and was also an amazing pianist!!!! R.I.P. Aretha John and Matt "Guitar" Murphy❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Somehow this makes me proud to be American. All this talent and genius.
Man that woman could sing! What a legend
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to the Queen of soul Aretha Franklin 3 25. We miss you so much. No one can get us to Think, or pay attention to Respect the way only you can
Know what? Time I gave this incredible film a rewatch.
exactly what I thought too
You don't do so regularly? That's like not watching Tom Baker.
It's a movie you can watch a hundred times and still look forward to the next time. It's packed full of a LOT of blues greats!
Technically, this is a musical. And it's the only one I'll ever watch.
Love Blue Lou Marini waiting for permission to go with Matt.
Super voice! Super actors! Super movie!
What a great video ! this is living in America. Thank you.
My church's pastor loved this movie, he said it was theologically correct. The Bible is full of ordinary people being given extraordinary assignments by God, and God's favor makes them unstoppable!
L’Osservatore Romano said the same thing!
It should be no surprise at how many careers were revived by this movie. It was a work of love to Motown, and so many people benefited from it.
One hell of an amazing singing voice........
Even in opera...she sang "Nessun Dorma" when Pavarotti got sick
I just think about Belushi and Aykroyd sitting on set, and how it must of felt for two men who very, very, very obviously *loved* this music to get to share the stage with the people who made that music what it was. I bet there were moment of pure, school-boyish bliss for them.
I found it thank god i was looking for 27 years ago searching it "blues brother movies" youtube since i was kid 6 born '93 thank you so much ..
Perhaps one of the most underrated movies of all time!!!

mine is Donald "Duck Dunn " Jake ain't lying . we had a band powerful enough to turn goats piss into gasoline
The undisputed Queen…may she rest in peace, power, and glory. Gosh I loved her music…think!
What a great scene from a great movie.
Thank you 'Retha. You are the best, forever.
This is the single best scene in the history of cinema!
So many legends in one movie
I always thought it was hilarious when the Blues Bros started doing the steps too.
As twisted as the Blues brothers is, I sure love this movie. Great talent, awesome songs, rytheme and blues.. Oh and heavy swag, always a fan of good clean comedy...
This song needs to be played before every session of Congress.
they wouldn't get it, because they're soulless.
Coreografia in ciabatte, la migliore voce blues di tutti i tempi, più i Fratelli in missione per conto di Dio. Uguale capolavoro
This is on the list of perfect movie scenes.

One of the best scenes in a movie with so many awesome scenes.
We’ll go ahead, damn it!
That woman has the voice of a very angry goddess! Probably my most rewatched part of the show!
I saw this in the theater as a kid. Killer movie, one of my favorites.

Watching this in the theater when it was first released, I laughed out loud when Jake and Elwood started dancing.
This was great, but that backflipping down the church aisle is the killer scene for me.
Murphy ... just love how he can barely contain his smile the whole number. That shit-eating grin that just screams "holy crap, thats aretha franklin singing right in front me."
