Pai Sir, with due respect, you are still advocating for liberal Capitalism, it has failed in the west and even in India. We need Chinese/Vietnam-style State guided Capitalism, which is the only successful model. Why Nobody is advocating for it? India must Industrialise and become an export-oriented economy ASAP.

Fantastic analysis … I agree with Mohan! Private sector have a role to play.. Our caste system was based on occupation or skill and hence Vyasas were business people. We always had biz people in our society playing a positive role! Most were ethical n modest in living and never greedy for profit! I had a good Marwari friend! Why you count naya paise? To which he said “ Lakshmi is every paisa”! Then I asked what you do with profits, he said 50% goes for charity or in temple hundies! Why things changed is bcoz Congress corrupted the system & painted them as villains, but in reality Congress men collected money without working for it! Their greed kept going up every year!
No wonder India GDP was only around 3-4% for decades instead of 8-12%! Hats off to Shri Mohan Das Pai .. a must watch video

Urbanization may increase incomes but at the cost of human health and well-being. What we need is decentralization of development. More environment- friendly industries in rural areas to provide jobs to rural people without displacing them from their homes, without overcrowding a few metro cities and concentrating environmental pollution in a few areas. We've to stop copying western or Chinese model and develop our own.

The mainstream media in India and world over are left dominated. They loose their importance the moment they acknowledge the growth story. Yes, there's a lot that needs to improve. Does that mean we should not celebrate the good stuff happening and improve the mindset of our people? It's our cynical attitudes that brought about foreign rule in India. Celebrate the good and set about rededicating ourselves to improve further. That's the only way forward. We need more people like Mr Pai to drive our outlook and policies.

I agree. I can see and feel the progress. I m not living in India but I will move soonest and start investing. As of now the manufacturing sector is far behind but infra needs to speed up fast. Tech sector is what belongs to India. The knowledge skill and low wages will propel India to no 1 tech sector. Already 63 unicorns now. I bet there will be 1000 unicorns by 2030.

This is a great discussion. Praise Mr Pai enormously for the spirit and clarity of vision. However if we were to summarize all suggestions: one thing is clear. It is implementation, implementation and implementation: what ever good ideas one has, nothing is valid till implemented. The biggest issues are : corruption, corruption and Corruption: corruption of morals, corruption of ethics corruption politics and administration.
Can’t we start with across the country juhad against corruption of all kinds. Please unite against corruption.

That is part of the problem. The other is culture just remember that you need to have an entrepreneurial culture. Right now India just doesn't have that. The Patel's of America started out small the bought a small motel. Years later the currently own a billion dollar hotel chain that would not be allowed to happen in India.

Reduce or eliminate buraucratic red tape and take the shackles of the Indian people and they will rise to the occasion like they have in America and other countries outside India.

This talk is so reflective of the precise challenges that India faces - very superficial level of analysis and solutions provided. The talk was full of bullet points. Look at the title itself - while we are currently a 2.7T economy that wanted to be 5T by 2025 and no clear path to achieve that itself, we are putting up a pipe dream on 10T !! 🙄
Even before the pandemic struck, our GDP growth has been showing a clear qtr on qtr decrease. And without even examining the reasons behind this slow down , the speaker puts up a simplistic to-do list. The overall gist of the talk & conversation after is :
1.nothing happened for first 70yrs ( while anecdotally the same speaker says good things hv happened albeit in South & certain sectors)
    2. Now be hopeful for the next 10-15 yrs !! When an entrepreneur raised his practical day to day issues - solution is contact PM,FM etc etc. And when entrepreneur says he has exhausted those channels too , he is praised for his dedication & let loose with motivation ka pudhiya!! 🙄 no wonder the entrepreneur is thinking of investing overseas.
Our country can longer be managed by "headlines". We need ppl in leadership roles who exhibit 2nd & 3rd order thinking, which is unfortunately lacking. And the citizens have got so numbed by the ineptitude of the governing class, that they have forgotten to do some clear thinking of their own & the spine to question the political class.
For now there is only hope & putting up a face of optimism.

I don't think industrial farming is the answer, because it creates its own problems. We should not repeat the errors of the West in the past two centuries- there should be specialized intensive faming of non-grain produce instead. Moving labor intensive industries to smaller towns is a great idea.
