I'm really hoping this is true because it's the closest I'll get to seeing it. I really also hope this is a trend in theater. I know that the money is in the ticket sales but I really, really want to have some of this more accessible due to not living close enough to NYC to travel regularly and there are so many good shows and so little time. I'm excited for a lot of the cast, personally. I've been a fan of Reeve even since the Spider-Man musical. He was Dorian Gray on Penny Dreadful as well and his entire family is incredibly talented. I've seen Patrick Page on Broadway as Lumiere as he had a long run on Broadway and the mic crackle and as a young actor at the time, it just left an amazing impression on me at the time and his relationship with his wife on social media (Paige Davis from Trading Spaces) is amazing.
Same! I think it's such a shame that more shows aren't professionally filmed. It would allow so many people who can't see these shows in person to share in that magic. It also saves these shows from obscurity. What I would give for a professionally filmed version of The Great Comet.
Hope we get the pro shot asap if it happens. I'm from Australia so I can't wait to see our production early next year. Just hate how many pro shots are in the back burner just waiting to be distributed.
Oh wow, would love to try and see this, and yet will be sad to know I won't see Melanie La Barrie again. So glad to have her live recording. Hades town truly did become my next obsession.
I’ve been twice this year (most recently this Sunday just gone), and managed to miss Melanie both times, which is a shame. On the plus side, I did really like Waylon Jacobs’ Hermes, especially the second time once I was familiar with the material. But I do wish I’d got to see her in the role, I LOVED her on the album.
I won't be able to see it in person, but hopefully the proshot gets put on a streaming service, and if they release it on DVD/Blu-ray I'll be buying it so fast.
I am a hadestown fan who missed the OBC and is considering going to london for the first time to see this. I would super appreciate a video on this channel explaining what else in london is worth seeing right now.
I've just come back from London (a trip primarily to see Hadestown again)... I would highly recommend the Benjamin Button musical and if you can get tickets Great Comet down at the Donmar!
I reckon the dead give away that it's a pro-shot run is that the official Hadestown social accounts are liking almost all comments of excitement on their announcement post BUT the ones that mention a pro-shot.
I hope its true they are doing a pro-shot. I listen to the soundtrack all the time and this would be the only way I would be able to see the original cast. Im so excited for those who get to see the show.
Wow!!! I wish I was in London. Hadestown is my favorite show, and these five cast members are spectacular!! I agree with you, as far as Amber being the one, I would be most excited to see again. She truly is Persephone. I didn’t realize that Reeve wasn’t nominated. He was made for that role!! I also had the pleasure of meeting him backstage, after one of the Broadway performances.
A pro shot would be an instant purchase for me, omg. I love when shows get the professional film treatment (for me it allows more people to experience the show) and Hadestown deserves it.
I was fortunate enough to catch the show on Broadway just before Carney left. Such an amazing performance to see in person. Wish I could have seen the rest of the original cast.
It will be an early morning for me in the States, but I’m determined to get tickets! I’ve seen it with the original cast, except for Patrick Page in 2021. The American tour in 2023 and recently a High School Teen Edition (so cute!). We just decided to head to London for Valentine’s Day (Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me,)! Truly, that's the FATES! And, we also have tickets to see Cabaret with Billy Porter! 2025 is going to be amazing if we can make this happen!
I need this as a proshot. While I saw the Proctor’s (US) version which was great, I still wanted to see the original or any Broadway performance of it, but it is too expensive. A proshot would be a great way to access it.
Surely the Equity swap would be the five Hadestown actors coming to the UK, and the five Mincemeat actors going to Broadway? 5 in, 5 out- surely that just works right?
Hades in the Proctor’s performance I saw was amazing. He was the best part of the show. My friend and my mom were (i kid you not) hypnotized by his voice. My mom told me over and over that she never heard a voice like is and actually preferred his over the original. We looked it up when we got home.
I got to see Hadestown live on Broadway and it is now my favorite musical. If there's a proshot, I will shove my money down someone's throat to get my hands on a Blu-Ray
I saw Hadestown on Bway in Aug 2022 & loved it. Some of the orig cast were still in it at that time: Carney, Noblezada & Page - who has the most extraordinary voice I've ever heard. I was disappointed to have missed DeShields (though his replacement was excellent) simply cause I had never seen the legend on stage before ... at that point - I finally got the chance this past Summer i P.S. ‘Modern Family’ alum Sarah Hyland joins ‘The Great Gatsby’ on Broadway. I guess she can sing, cause I think she was in Little Shop off-Bway.
It's gonna be so cool to hear the cast singing the revised lyrics to some of the songs! :D I still prefer the original ending verse to Epic III (i prefer the earlier versions of the song overall tbh), but I feel like hearing Reeve sing it (IF we get a proshot) will do it for me, and make me love it. 💚💚💚
Wait, are shows at the national, not eligible for Oliviers? Does that mean Here We Are won't be nominated for best new musical/best score/best book/etc. for the original run? Could you possibly do a video explaining the relation of the Oliviers to the London Theatre scene?
They are, it's complicated. If they weren't eligible the Lyric run would have been. It's more that they get forgotten / the National only have the capacity to campaign for a small selection of their various productions.
@@MickeyJoTheatre I actually had one other question. How come shows can get revived multiple times really close to eachother on the West End. By example, I remember that Follies was revived in the 2010s and then it was very popular and was brought back a couple years later. Is this a common occurance? How was this possible?
If I had a nickel for every time Patrick Page played a billionaire type antagonist and kidnapped Reeve Carney’s girlfriend I’d have two nickels Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
I’ve just booked to go see the current cast before they go and don’t live in London so probably won’t go to all the expense of booking another trip just for the original cast so hope a pro shoot does happen even if it takes years to drop.
I'm still thinking about getting tickets because I dream this cast album and I would love to see them live. But it's also quite an investment as I'm Dutch and I also have tickets for the Amsterdam version of Hadestown. But I'll be checking the prices tomorrow!
I've only been able to see Hadestown once, and I saw it when all of the OG Broadway cast were still there except Amber Heard. My friend who when with me and I just missed her. :( But it was still a transcendant experience. I would love to be able to see the show again some day.
I’m beyond stoked for this. I saw the entire original cast perform and they were wonderful. Reeve honestly had a lot of voice cracks, which was disappointing, but it was shortly before he left the show and I imagine it was starting to take a toll. That’s not an easy part to sing. I hope Melanie La Barrie still plays Hermes. She’s amazing.
@ nooooo that breaks my heart!! I was fortunate enough to see her here in &Juliet and just fell in love with her. Gorgeous voice and such acting! I would have loved seeing her in this role.
Oh, my word… Fun fact: I’m going to London early January with some friends and had already booked tickets for Hadestown. I had to watch it again, I fell in love with this show when I finally got to see it early this year. But now I really want to be able to watch this new version with the original cast. Where am I, with a Portuguese living wage, going to be able to get the money for more airplane tickets and hotel stays??? 😂😂😂😂
I’m going to London early January from the states and seeing Hadestown then too! Lol also wondering who’s going to sponsor me to just stay until February 😂
Really hope that by doing a proshot they are getting ahead of anyone trying to do a movie adaptation of Hadestown. Because I think Hadestown is a show that truly works the best in the theater and I don't want to see them try to make a movie of it (and ruin it).
I've literally just caught up with your cast recording reaction, and this popped up! I can't imagine any reason other than filming it - it's going to be an expensive endeavour, as you say it's not prime London tourist season! Not gonna be an appealing vacation for the performers.
We made it to NYC to see Hadestown in fall of 2022. Amber Gray and Andre DeShields had already left (but Jewelle Blackman was great and Lilias White was unforgettable!) so we missed out on seeing the original 5. But unfortunately both Eva and Reeve were out that Saturday Night! I did enjoy the performance of the Orpheus replacement, but was quite underwhelmed with the Euridice understudy. So the only OBC performer we saw was Patrick Page. It's worth it just for him, but we were a little disappointed at the time. Id love a trip just to see them all together but i doubt we could make it that time of year.
Supposedly there was also a filmed version of the show in NYC, I was in a program run by previous Hermes, T Oliver Reid and in the program, he said we would be watching this unreleased pro shot if workshops on the itinerary fell through.
Wait a minute... 5 US performers for 5 UK performers? At the same time as Operation Mincemeat is going to Broadway? With its 5 original UK cast members??
I have long been an admirer of Andre de Shields (and I've listened to the cast album) - yes, as you said, an icon. But having seen Hadestown twice now in the West End, there is something quite powerful about the character of Hermes being a female/non-binary character. It's easier to accept Hermes as an 'engineer' of Eurydice's story; there's something that makes me uncomfortable about a man controlling the overall telling/re-telling of the story.
Is it just me who thinks Hadestown should be taught in schools? I admit I am biased because I LOVE musicals, but I've noticed that students enjoy studying plays/musicals more (e.g Blood Brothers). Especially Hadestown, it is crazy how much you could analyse the lyrics and the foreshadowing throughout. Anais Mitchell is a genius. I realise it would be difficult to teach though as it is mainly sung through 😭
I think it could be interesting to include if you're doing a series about mythology and its retellings. I'm American and can't say that in high school we did much of that specifically (we did Greek tragedies and The Odyssey, but not Greek myths specifically), but in middle school we did a series on Greek/Roman mythology because it's the basis of a lot of literature references. We read The Lighting Thief in 7th grade as part of that, so it's not a stretch that something like Hadestown could be included. However it probably doesn't fit as well, since it's a musical and also poetry and both of those get more complicated to teach in something like an English/Language Arts class. Both of those genres present different challenges in teaching that are different than teaching a regular novel, short story, or even a play (which would be the closest format-wise). As much as I love Hadestown, there are probably other options that are going to be easier to teach and fit better in the curriculum.
I love Hadestown! I was fortunate enough to see all the original cast for Hadestown. Everyone was amazing. The pure star power of Andre De Sheilds was stunning. Eva Noblezada was great. Amber Gray was a complete revelation--absolute perfection. I've yet to see a better Hades; Patrick Page was powerful. A genuine deep bass is such a unique experience. Reeve Carney was okay; he started doing a really annoying and absurd performance later in the run. he went from okay to horrible.
I traveled from Germany to London in May to see Hadestown, cause i got weirdly obsessed with it. I am really close to just get a ticket and come again...
I got to see Patrick Page’s most recent show and it was amazing! The way he conducted it as a mix of performance and something like a college lecture was so cool.
I would kill to see this as the WE version was such a huge disappointment to me with the two young leads. Once you’ve heard Eva, it’s tough with anyone else. She is perfect and their chemistry is amazing
Sorry but them going to England to film a pro shot when they could easily do it in America makes little to no sense unless they advertise it to get more ticket sales
