I love this guys since the day saw that cleft scar on him....its like a scars that will be forever remember when he becomes legendary.. no ones talking about his scars... but we all know its the first thing we see on him and its beautiful, it makes him more sexy and handsome

I don’t think that aspect is acting, it’s how he really is. Listen to his acting techniques from interviews, his performances are more about being present in the moment than anything else. His anxieties elevate his conflict more than anything else which is why he gravitated toward “losing mind” roles more. It’s because he’s already a little coo coo in the head. So if anything he’s acting very little outside of his own persona. The best actors are themselves in the present moment making you THINK they’re “acting” when they’re just being themselves. Joaquin Phoenix literally sounds like Joaquin Phoenix in EVERY SINGLE ROLE and yet no one noticed. 🤣

Commodus was as vulnerable as he was vicious which ,in turn, gave him a level of complexity rarely seen in most villains. Joaquin took something that could've been cliched, fleshed it out and took it in some surprising new directions.
mckernan1987 that was a tough competitive year for Best Actor in 2012. That year Joaquín was up against Denzel Washington for the film Flight and Daniel Day Lewis for the film Lincoln. They gave the Oscar to Daniel Day Lewis but I agree in my opinion Joaquín should have won Best Actor for The Master!
Because 'The Master' is way too much enigmatic, smart and demanding movie for average Academy member to handle, that's why. They give awards to safe Oscar bait movies instead, many of them are already forgotten by now.
He plays "crazy" pretty well. In We Own The Night, he had hints of darkness. I can't shake the feeling that he'd make a great Joker adaptation. I don't know how his laugh would work, but his scar on his upper lip and his charisma make me think he'd pull it off wonderfully.

He’s been underrated but is an acting heavyweight now that JOKER has been released. He may be the most brilliant American actor working in films today.

That's an experience that I would never forget and will treasure, everyone at my job was Jealous! Joaquin Phoenix always delivers. In recent times he was fabulous in IRRATIONAL MAN. Losing River so young was devastating to cinema. However, Joaquin demonstrated his great gift in his early teens and then blasted off with TO DIE FOR. We have been blessed by the younger Phoenix brother’s acting powers. He’s been underrated but is an acting heavyweight now that JOKER has been released. He may be the most brilliant American actor working in films today.
They surely have to update this list after the Joker Movie.

Joaquin Phoenix is an extraordinary actor, I had the pleasure to have met him while they were filming the immigrant within my neighborhood. We took a picture together. I will never forget that day.

bannokelly18 Yes , he was a bit shy at first, and quite, I saw him and I said "excuse me Mr., Phoenix can I take a picture with u", and he turned to me and said " Call Me Joaquin". So then I replied Joaquin May I take a picture with you and he said " Sure". he's so handsome, tall, in person. I went for a deep search for him you had no idea. That's an experience that I would never forget and will treasure, everyone at my job was Jealous! My friend kept calling me Mrs. Phoenix. another co-worker of mine asked for his autograph and to take a pic, he said no. I guess he liked me. :)
Hes a weird guy, and always plays someone who is weird or has something off about them. He definitely has screen presence though

AMEN!!!!! The only, and I mean ONLY, problem I have about his character in that movie is that hes either ALWAYS yelling, or whispering. Nothing in between. But that feels the same for his rendition of Johnny Cash. Those are the only 2 movies ive seen by him yet, but I feel like its a pattern...
Best thing about his acting is he has thousands of faces; i just watched “Master” and i didn’t noticed he is same actor who acted “Her”. Just amazing
