Yes, I have always felt that the Schumann symphonies capture the quintessence of what romanticism in music really means...and they are such towering masterpieces!.
L' op. 120 di Schumann è particolarmente congeniale al superbo talento interpretativo di Karajan, si veda ad esempio l'esecuzione filmata da Clouzot nel 1965 con i Wiener Symphoniker (ed. DG) con relative prove che evidenziano l'inaudita capacità concertativa del Maestro. Questa ripresa dal vivo con i Wiener Philharmoniker non è inferiore a quella citata, sebbene qui la tendenza della ricerca timbrica e della levigatezza sonora raggiunga la sua acme (con qualche effetto collaterale come certi impasti talora troppo spinti). Si tratta, beninteso, anche in questa circostanza di un'interpretazione di assoluto riferimento, a mio parere dello stesso livello di quelle fornite da Furtwangler o Bernstein.
SEGUNDO BRAHMS, QUE NÃO ERA DADO A FAZER CRÍTICAS DESTRUTIVAS COMO WAGNER FAZIA, ESSA SINFONIA No. 4 DE SCHUMANN, ERA SUPERIOR NA PRIMEIRA VERSÃO DE 1841. A SEGUNDA VERSÃO DE 1851, ERA BEM INFERIOR. PARECE QUE SCHUMANN SE ENGANOU TERRIVELMENTE AO ADOTAR ESSA VERSÃO DE 1851. A ORQUESTRA SOA ÁSPERA E MUITO ESCURA E O DESENVOLVIMENTO DOS TEMAS DEIXA A DESEJAR.
O versão final é superior da que primeiro versão. Sem dúvida. Brahms era um excêntrico por gostar da primeira versão. Qualquer pessoa pode ouvir este fato.
