Me: I hope they don't wash the test cloths together cause Turmeric will color everything. It's a very potent dye.
Them: We washed everything together and now it's all yellow...
It is. a nice yellow
At least they didn't test black walnut husks. They would have to throw out the washer.
It looked green to me
@Smiley no I'm not it just look more green to me

1. Turmeric dyes EVERYTHING!
2. Why would you wash them all together....especially when one has turmeric in them? That's why everything turned yellow
They might as well have used detergent.
Also turmeric is a basic indicator so a base like baking soda will change the color just as it does with the cabbage
I know for a fact that turmeric dyes everything because I use it in everything that I cook and my skin is stained yellow
I expected you to put each shirt in the wash separately... for science.
I guess I expect too much...
ok adam
Did you know that actually water in pennies can turn blue? You just have to... well...
you have to pee in it :P
Oops sorry, ment to make my own comment
@@soltrice I mean, he's not wrong. They should have washed them separately.
When you dye clothes the normal way, you're supposed to rinse it with water and then run it through the dryer to help solidify the dye, and then you're free to wash it to check if it stayed. You should try that next time and run the tests that worked well again. That would be a true test to see if they actually behave as dyes.
Did you really wash them all together? That's like a first laundry at college kind of mistake
yea I'm confused, did they really make that mistake lol fairly big oversight for an experiment , the turmeric likely did that. When cooking with turmeric most people know not to get that spice on clothes, it stains horribly
Ya see I'm 14 and doing my own laundry that's never happened to me
yeah. what pair of idiots. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Until you discover the cold water cycle lol
I've been doing my own laundry since 10 and I'm 19 (in college) and never had an issue with any of my color clothes ruining any of my whites. Either y'all are doing something wrong or I'm doing something wrong
heres a lesson kids: DO NOT wash different colored clothes together
lol
forever pineapples once when I was 8 my mom said to do the laundry she said to do it and I did I only Added 2 clothes in it
And it was white and purple and Then my white shirt turned Really really light purple

This actually annoyed me because you washed everything together
Andrew Pfeifer
Well yes but these aren’t just any other shirt. When you dye clothing you shouldn’t wash them with anything else because it could stain anything else. That applies to these as well.
Also the experiment was ruined because of it. To get an actually accurate conclusion, they should’ve definitely washed them separately.
THEY COULD HAVE USED THE LEMON TRICK
I bet the turmeric stained it all yellow.
Jae EXACTLY!!!!!!
How did you know you didn’t see them so don’t say things they you can’t prove or be true about because they could have washed them separately

Them: The red shirt turned the clothing pink!
Also them: Let's put a turmeric shirt with a lot or turmeric on with all the clothing we had.
Yeah that's what I was thinking
Honestly I don't know how two adults didn't notice that putting the tumeric shirt that was dying everything with the rest of the clothes is gonna ruin everything , but again they did leave cut fruits out for flies to gather around .
Dude, I seriously think they've never spilled Indian curry on their clothes before 😂 Turmeric stains HORRIBLY, to where a tiny drop turns into a land mine. Why oh why would they put turmeric powdered clothes in a washing machine? The poor thing is going to forever spew yellow fabrics
They gonna need a new washing machine.
@@nightsong81 Definitely. Considering there's probably a bunch of clumps of turmeric powder inside the machine, they are royally screwed lol
When they said they are going to wash everything, my head was screaming no dont do it.
🤦🏻♀️ Always hand wash fabrics that have been dyed with colors derived from nature and don't use soap that has sulfates.
Bar soap usually work well
I think it's funny because Blossom claims it to be simple, which it is, but I'd rather just toss them in the wash with the rest of my clothes(of course not mixing colours like they did for some reason XDD)
Shauna Gustavus okay?
you said that like we were supposed to know that... but i respect u for putting this
They were hella ignorant and obviously did zero research on natural dyes and proceeded to have bad attitudes about the outcome like?????
soooo does this mean you're going to redo them and wash everything separately next time? lol
Exactly! Natural dyes work extremely well...when done properly.
That REALLY annoyed me
Honestly

HAHA FUNNY
Hi I have experience with natural dyeing so just a few notes: The best way to get an even color is to agitate the fabric gently throughout the dyeing process. You can't judge the evenness of the dye on what you tried to dye it with. By folding the fabric you are having it resist the dye to some extent. The turmeric is the strongest and it overpowered the other pieces so they shouldn't have been washed together. In fact, most natural dyes do not take well to overdyeing at all so I'm not surprised by what happened to all your pieces in the end. Also in order to assist with the dye staying on the fabric you would have to use a mordant. I realize that you are testing the videos so it wouldn't be part of your process, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Tkor: we are gonna wash everything now...
Me: they’re not going to wash everything together right?
Tkor: well we washed everything together
ikr... facepalm moment
I honestly saw that coming....XD
I was like Noooo you ruined the Experiment
They should re film it the right way
Yup. And I'm not saying the penny thing would work, but they used what looked to be mostly new pennies and probably should have used older solid copper pennies instead of the copper plated zinc ones

"It's a huge ph indicator"
"Gee why is it turning turquoise already with just the water"
I mean, I suppose they expected their water to be neutral... cause it’s water
Because their water probably wasn't distilled . Which is kinda annoying
Hannah Bloom cause all tap water is perfectly neutral? And I’m pretty sure something like a natural ph indicator would indicate any ph no matter if it’s neutral or not.
You're pretty sure yet wrong. Ironic
But it’s not just water, because they used tap water, which is often *heavily* altered by metal deposits from old pipes and mineral salts.
That’s what it means when you hear the term “hard water.” If your water, has a high mineral content, then it is “hard” with high concentrations of calcium, magnesium, and many other trace minerals. This can lead to many “symptoms” including limescale buildup, decreased “sudsing” from soaps and detergents, and most relevant here: a lower pH, meaning your water is more alkaline or “basic” and will therefor turn red cabbage blue.
It just shows how little research they did on the subject if they can say “red cabbage reacts to pH” and then completely fail to recognize the implications of their “plain water” turning cabbage blue.
Turmeric stains everything! You should’ve been smart enough to wash them separately! I wanted to see the colors! 😞😐😒😫

I know this came out some time ago but i didn’t have this informacion until some time ago! In guatemala they dye cotton with most of the things that was used in this video (obviously not the pennies) and then they set it with banana lead! There a few more different things also so just to make sure I do not miss something I will describe really shortly the whole process! So they use only cotton (I think that is important) then they boil the stuff they will use for at least 35 minutes and then they dip it in banana leaf boiled in water for 35 minutes and that's it! And it doesn't even wash out or transfer on clothing right after its died into it!

The pennies have to be from before 1960 when they were still made from a higher consemtrantion of copper to get the bluish color
Incorrect, it doesn't matter what year the pennies are from there all coated in Copper so they would have reacted in some way at least. You will never get blue water from putting pennies in it no matter what the year. I believe they had the clear liquid wrong as they may have assumed that it was water. But you can actually get cupric acetate which is a blue to blue green color by soaking copper in a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. Visually you would never know the difference between that liquid and water so I think they just assumed and got it wrong.

can we get a sort of "meet the team" video. like editors, animators, photographers and etc.
You can dye things with plants or at least wool yarn. I'm stydying to become craft teacher in Finland and I had course couple of weeks ago where we collected diffrent plants from nature. for example we had birch and maple leaves and other plants and some kind of mushrooms that I have no idea what to call in english. Most of them you need to boil couple of hours to remove color ftom them then you need to boil them with the yarn at leat an hour and you also need substance that helps color to stick to the fabric and enhances plants natural colors. And you need lots of plants to dye anyting, we had big pots full of them and it only dyes about 300 grams of yarn. But you can get some nice colors from plants.
There are a huge number of natural dyes, though not all will work equally well on different fibres. You also need to pay close attention to which dyes and which fabrics need which mordants too - textile designer and maker

We need to be really careful when do the washing after dying by putting the darker colour under water while lighter ones needed to be held up to prevent darker colour water dripping onto it.
