    Frank Lebeauf is right about the fact that the goal of Xavi should not have been disallowed. A player can only interfere with the game when the ball is in play. Anything that could possibly be interpreted as interference between Dumfries and Maignan happened after the ball assed the goalline and is therefore not relevant. Craig Burnley completely ignores this crucial point.

      The rules don't care about whether the ball is in play, or whether the ball is heading towards goals. If a player kicks the ball away from the penalty area and is then fouled afterwards, when the ball is halfway headed towards the middle of the park, it's a penalty. It's insanity, but them's the rules

    What are these pundits on about? Not trying to show my bias here as a Dutchman but in the repeat, from the side you could see there was space for Maignan to dive back to the goal near the line, which is what goalkeepers tend to do when they try to save long shots aimed at the corners of the goal. He also had clear vision on the trajectory of the ball, but barely recovered from the save prior. Dumfries was standing motionless, not behind Maignan (which would have been obstruction), but a bit in front of him and at least one meter away to his side. That leaves plenty of space for Maignan to dive. So I don't understand the claim that Maignan has nowhere to go. He just realized he wasn't in time to collect himself after that deflection and make a consecutive save. The attempt was also accurately placed. So he just made an appeal to the refs to disallow the goal. There was no response from the keeper, no answer, and certainly he knew where the ball was going looking out into the box and seeing Simons readying a second attempt.

      Anyone who thinks that was a valid offside has no sense of football. The goalkeeper was totally beaten. Dumfries being there or not it would have gone in, he was not standing in the way and he made no movement towards the ball. Add in that it took them so long to decide. It's not hard to judge of someone is offside or not. If it takes you 3 min to decide whether it was offside then the goal should just be allowed because all they're doing at that point is trying to rationalize the offside when it clearly isn't.

    • @aufstiegundfall

The player was on the side of the maignan where maignan is supposed to dive to save the attempt, and the player is also offside. It doesnt matter if maignan “would have” or “ couldn’t have” made the save or not, the rule is simple and doesnt involve ifs, buts, woulds or maybes. hence it was offside

      Qualifiers is different than tournament games, Netherlands hasn't lost a Tournament game in regular time since their lose in the last euros. Could they win with Mbappe today? Maybe, but he didn't score against Austria also or in the champions league games.

    I think they're not being realistic about the mindset for this game. The Netherlands knew they were playing a stronger team (even without Mbappé) and so Koeman switched tactics. The game plan was to disrupt France, slow down the pace and to keep them at a stalemate. This partially worked.
    Normally the Netherlands fails at this. And always gives away a goal. So they play full on offense. Get one red card and then lose 4-0 to a top 5 team. This time they didnt. Flipped it around. And said: "Let France make the plays this game". And that strategy kindof worked.
    It also exposed that fact that without Mbappé, France's strikers turn out not to be as sharp as they should be (Griezmann wasting a big chance in front of Verbrugge being an example).
    No, Netherlands was not flashy. No, Netherlands doesnt seem to be a strong contender for teams like Spain, Germany or Portugal. But they are very aware of this and they have, instead, attempted to play the best possible strategies to cover for this. Every game.
    If, with a bad game, they can get a 0-0 draw from France. Then that's still good business. Especially since even the Dutch media had written them off at the start of the tournament. :P
    Personally, my attitude towards the Netherlands is this: "finishing in the top 16 is realistic. Any spot higher than that is a nice bonus."

    But no keeper in the world would' ve stopped the goal. The problem is that we have seen goals given and taken by the same situation.
    Anyways france deserve a goal, and maybe the dutch so a draw is fair.

      Dumfries was not in the play and he did not interfere. Maignan was never going to dive and save it, so it should have been a goal. Oh well, a draw was fair I guess and Oranje did not have a good game.

    One of the most boring games I've ever watched. It's the group system which allows the best 3rd place finishers to advance. Insanity. 16 groups in the tournament was perfect.

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Ian-te3sq I have watched the Euros since 1988 when there were only 8 teams in the final tournament. When there were 16 teams every single game mattered. Now the teams who win their first game only have to get one point from the remaining 2 games because the system is so ridiculous. Only 8 teams will be out. Of course that kills the intensity and importance of these remaining games and it's very convenient to play these "friendly ties".

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Ian-te3sq In the last world Cup there were teams that were eliminated from the second round with only 4 points. Just ask Germany. When only the 2 best teams qualify for the second round from the group stages all the games matter and there's no way these teams are going for these friendly ties. Tomorrow you'll see Germany and Switzerland playing and they both can secure their 2nd round with a tie. Very likely it'll happen again.
