Explained well and definitely overbore is better for hunting situation than for competition 🤙
Piet, well explained. For a hunting rig I would suggest whatever overbore people feel comfortable shooting, overkill is still dead. And buying some wind margin, or wounding margin in a hunting situation is always a good thing.

Great reasoning ,flawless Logic. Particularly for your hunting conditions. Best caliber for me ,in my hunt conditions for Deer , is a caliber that will stop BEAR. Yes an encounter of a predatory bear HAPPENS ,therefore a minimum 160 gr 30 06 OR 225 gr 338 win mag. I realize both cals are way overboard for Deer. Remember your responsible for everyone with you and 338 is very accurate for deer in heavy timber /brush. Great show , Thanks !

Crazy that you mention the Lazzeroni Warbird! My grandpa has the only one I have ever seen in person and that thing has insanely impressive ballistics!
Warbird is a screaming good cartridge of its time! Waaaaay ahead of the game when you look at today’s cartridges.
Great job with the camera. I have a 300 RUM with the 245 Berger’s and I think that is right on the edge and not an overbore but I’m building a 338 next and I’ve narrowed it down to two. The 33xc or the 338 enabler wich are both overbore cases that push the 300 grain over 3200 FPS but like you said the good outweighs the bad. Keep up the great videos

Hi Piet, good advice and I do agree. However in most Western countries we have laws that dictates minimum size caliber for certain hunting disciplines. Here in Aus the minimum caliber for deer is 6.5mm or 260rem. That why here the 6.5 cm and the 6.5 PRC have become popular with deer hunters. But I do like that idea of the .22cm for foxes.

Got my Raptor in yesterday and installed. I'll update you after I bring it to the range, hopefully this weekend, when I confirm zero and let you know how much better my shoulder feels after 25-30 rounds of 300WM.
Hey I love the videos I have been watching for the past few months and it has pushed be to want to by a hunting/prc platform I am starting with a Tikka T3X in an MDT Tac21 chassis in 6.5 creedmoor with a bushneil 4.5-24x50. I know this is not the craziest set up but is my birthday I would love if you did a video on, Tikka, and/or the Tac21 chassis
Most long range shooting problems are not the caliber, but caliber can help LOL. Great video, discussing the difference between long range paper and long range hunting. Speed kills animals better, also kills the meat unfortunately
Some of my favorite hunting rounds are overbore pushing monolithic bullets.

Piet the 6.5 creedmore and s already overbore. It’s just les overbore than for example the 243. There is a EXTREMELY strong case to be made for zeroing a hunting rifle for MPR
I had a 26 Nosler getting 3500 fps with a 127g LRX. It was pretty sweet for about 1 season. By the end of the second season, the barrel was shot out. It only took about 800 rounds and accuracy went to about 2 1/2 moa. Only took one animal out of that failed experiment. Running a 6.5 PRC 450 fps slower and am way happier now.
What were u hunting shooting 800 rounds in 1 season? Just curious... U didnt use that as a prairiedog gun , did u?
@@mryaj0095 I buy guns to use them not leave them in the safe. Between load development barrel break in and practice sessions at the range, that's 800 rounds in 2 years. It was my new and favorite thing for a while and so I gave it a lot of attention.
@@biggs8729 i kno where u coming at. I have a barrel burner 257 wby pushing 3300 as a hunting rig only...If i wanna play a shoot, i use my 260 rem cuz i kno i get more out of... plus it serves as both hunting and Play.
@@biggs8729 Buy a blaster rifle, bro. My hunting and match rifles only get shot at hunts or matches and maybe one practice session before. That PRC won't last very long either if you're going to shoot it regularly.

Love my 375 . It s basically knowing your rifle , and bullet drop. Keep it simple . Karoo boytjie. Too many novice hunters want to be too fancy .
17 Incinerator is by far the largest Overbore I can think of. It's like a lazer.
MDR calculator in Strelok helps determine zero range and max point blank range for the specified maximum trajectory height.

While we're thinking out of the box, I've never heard of a 26/06. There are plenty of hi BC bullets in 6.5mm to make it a viable build. That should be getting really close to flat shooting.

I have a 22 Creedmoor, 26 Nosler, and 28 Nosler that I've replaced the barrels on all of the twice the 28 Nosler I'm on barrel 3. I have a 1000 yard range on my property and love shooting those rifles but if I was to just hunt with them you're spot on barrel life is completely irrelevant. You could pass those guns to your kids and they might shoot out the barrels late in their lives.

As always, a great presentation. No particular opinion on overbore, owning a .300Win it is overbore compared to a .308, 30-06 or 30-30. But not when compared to let’s say .300RUM.
Hunting mostly in the north and east of South Africa, I apply your philosophy of reducing the room for error in a slightly different approach. .375H&H, .416Rigby ensures a huge amount of energy and one shot kills, and due to sub 200m distance body shots does not lead to much lost meat. Therefore complete agreement on the belief to increasing your chance of success. Looking forward to seeing that .22 Creed. 🥳

@@IMPACTSHOOTING when going for larger calibers, 9.3 and .375 are all great. However on a charge, you do need to hit the brain to make any impact as they are short on energy to penetrate deep enough to break major bones. Consider the .404, .416 or .458Lott/Express. There is a very noticeable difference when a 400gr or heavier bullet hits in a charge - with your skillset you will be very able to place the bullet in the necessary spot.

Can you go over what you do before you start shooting each stage? For instance, when “shooter engage” is said, what’s the first thing you do?
I saw a hunter here shoot a big buck 3 times with a 300 Weatherby magnum in the vitals and it never died lol. They can suck up lead and spit it out. Have even see arrows stuck in deer where they never touched vitals but were placed in the kill zone lol. Tough little critters

If your parralax and occular are adjusted properly they will appear on the same focal plain to your eye

Honestly with anything guns, there’s a give and take. Get one thing in one spectrum, lose another thing. Here in America where getting barrels is crazy easy, we don’t need to worry so much about barrel burnout. But every caliber/rifle has it’s given purpose and I think your 22 Creedmoor is a perfect choice for what you’re describing. Your 7mm-300wm would be WAY too much gun for a spring buck, but that’s just my opinion.

Hi Pieter, speed also = meat damage. Yes, bullet design also plays a big part hence why I use Peregrine monolithics. If you do headshots... then that does not matter much unless you were looking forwsrd to eating the cheecks "awesome taste by the way". Any shot through the shoulder or neck means a lot of unedible meat.
Yeah you’re right, that bloodshot jelly is not a pretty sight when your harvesting meat.
That is why I think headshots (more specifically brain shots) are best. The animal doesn't suffer because conciousness stops instantly and no meat is ruined.

And the most wounded animals are from headshot. Not everyone can shoot headshots at 300m.
@@nielrossouw7831 300m seems a little far to taking a shot from in my opinion.
300 feet is probably the farthest I would ever take a shot from in a hunting context. Maybe you could add 100 more feet on a good day, but that's about it.
@@FinalLugiaGuardian yes, there is a very small margin for error... and even if you can shoot a one hole group at 300m, there is a big chance the head moves as you pull the trigger with just enough movement in the time of flight to hit the outer edges of the head resulting in a badly wounded animal. Experienced hunters normally can better judge when the animal is calm or knows somethings up. So I would recommend any novice hunters to stay on the heart lung area till they have enough experience to make such a call. Good hunters have respect for the animals they harvest and want to make the most ethical kill possible, but also take the least amount of risk of wounding an animal. Keep those shots short, stalk closer... its the art of hunting after all. Target shooting is there for those who want to show their skill or luck at hitting it at great distances.

We put something flat...er shooting together years ago. More for vermin hunting. 243 necked down to .224 with a 55 grain bullet running 4100fps. zero at 53 yards (or 250yards) it was 0.9"high @100, 1.1" high @ 200 and 2.0" low @ 300 yards. So a half ass guess on range was just point and shoot. Barrel life?? maybe 800 lol.

Just get a barrel spun up for one of your existing rifles. Less than a 100 bucks later in tools and you're doing your own swaps in 10 minutes.
Pete, have you ever tried the 95gr smk's in that 22crdm? I have had two 22crdm's and they loved the 95gr smk's with a 1-7 twist barrel around 42gr of h4831sc. Getting 3250fps with that combination. My next overbore chambering is going to be a 7mm hulk = 338 lapua necked down to 7mm. I'll mostly be shooting it at a mile.

I have both the 220 swift and 22crdm. The Creedmoor is a little faster than the swift. And most 220 Swifts don't have a fast enough twist barrel to shoot the heavier bullets.

Im running a 25-06AI pushing 131 blackjacks out of a 28" Bart with a crap ton of v565......overbore shmoverbore. If I wanna shoot a lot I will get something NATO out of the safe. If I want to turn feral hogs into taco meat I go with speed. Next chamber will be something from Mr Sherman in 25cal

I'm very sold on copper solids. They seem to take your standard calibers and give them the over bore performance. Of course copper solids in a hot rod are on another level. The nice thing is you really don't need to get a whole new barrel or rifle and scope. Just buy some nice bullets and start cheating wind!
I've ran the PVA Cayuga in my 7mm rem mag and it turned it into a 12mph gun with a silly amount of drop.
Lead still has better Ballistics... But that lead free ammo hunting state sucks balls. Had to redo all my loads since. California.
@@mryaj0095 I think you'd really benefit from looking into lathe turned copper solids. The only thing that jacketed lead bullet bring to the table is spotting impacts on steel and in the dirt. In every other way monolithic bullets blow away the competition. Generally the only ballistic struggle is dealing with internal ballistics, twist rates and freebore. The PVA bullets were designed with traditional barrels in mind and work flawlessly in factory rifles. They are also not finicky with seating.
The Cayuga bullets are also approved in California.
Lol.. ive use the highest BC CuttingEdge .25 cal bullet and it was still no match to my Berger load... CNC, yes ive been aware, almost all small company copper bullets are CNCd.
But the real question and arguement of Lead Vs Copper has to be this..... Look at all the Top shooters in Competition cuz this is where types of bullets are heavily experimented and shown results of these ammo Ballistically..... Guess what, they use Lead for a reason.
Im after Ballistic performance... U get that correct, shot placement is never a problem.. when in doubt , go for the neck shot.

I really like the back and forth camera work but if I could suggest... when you make your turn to the camera make sure to do it during a natural pause and show the last split second of that turn in the camera you are moving to. Why pick 6.5 Creed, when that one is already necked down from 308w. Shouldve taken 308 to start with imo since its the parent case to 6.5CM
308 is not the parent case for 6.5cm . 30tc is

@@Jimmy.JAEGARN 30 TC has a thicker web and a higher operating pressure hence the “30-06 from a 308 sized case” claim. That’s also why the 6.5 CM operates at a higher pressure than 260 in a SAAMI loading
