Knowing your rifle is a huge thing. Many guys here in the USA say “I can hit a beer can I’m good”. This last week at the range I had a guy who “zero’s his scope” for 300yards but has only ever shot his rifle at 100yards. His social media suggest he also misses 1 out of 6 deer. I tried to explain but he’s a stuck in his ways individual. Yesterday I had a coyote out my backyard 293yards away(I knew that hill was 312yards out knowing my rifle(6.5cm) I got my rifle out, bipod deployed, threw my ear pro on Aimed slightly high for bullet drop and pulled the trigger all within 20seconds. He dropped with a perfect heart shot, what was really awesome about that my dad and little brother both got to watch me make that shot.
Now your game plan advice: yes, after this past season I’m personally going to shoot the first deer I see UNLESS it’s a doe with a young fawn. This past year I had 16 deer come in range first 4 hunts thinking I had all the time in the world. No, the next 70days I was off only 3 days due to unprecedented overtime at work. Food in the freezer first is how I’ll be hunting from now on. Thankfully last week of the season I managed to get a little 6 point for burger meat.

Have you considered strapping the rifle to your pack, or a specific pack sling? If you have limited hunting opportunities, don't pass on something you will shoot tomorrow, if you have lots of opportunities or you are very specific about what you want to shoot, then wait for it.

    Hello Pete.
Would you try shooting from Viperflex sticks? In My experience its hard to beat the precision from this setup. 2,3,4 or 5 legs.. depends on the situation.

Pieter - slightly off topic but what kind of cases are you transporting your firearms in? Hard or soft sided? Different for your hunting rifles vs competition rifles? Have you found that one brand makes a better case than another?!? Thanks! Appreciate what you do to educate us!

I think it would be worth mentioning when talking about distance is that it seems like you only shoot head shots. Going for a body shot gives you a lot more room for error thusly you might be able to stretch distances out a bit.
Some people will even argue that headshots are not ethical. But that a discussion for another day.

    Good day Pieter.
Thank you for all your videos and advice.
I really enjoy your enthusiasm and energy.
It's refreshing and something different, keeps things interesting.
It's also nice to see that your keeping things real (humble) and not editing out missed shots and mistakes.
Nice to know Pro's also miss and make mistakes. 😉
It's great too see your passion for the sport and enjoying what you do.
It encourages me to practice more and improve my skills.
Especially shooting over sticks/tripods and less stable objects over longer distances. I suck at it. Shaking like an 👴. Lol.
It's a pity that everything is so expensive in this sport. Would love to shoot more and get better equipment. Every weekend if i could.
Would probably get me into trouble with the misses though.
Anyways, keep up the good work. 👍
    Your little girl is adorable.
    Regards
    Ockert

Pieter now you like shooting from a tripod try look up the danish produced Viperflex shooting stick, her in Scandinavia a lot of hunters shoots with shooting sticks because it’s a lot faster, and I personally got hit standing with the Viperflex on 10cn targets on 600m
    Give it a look
