3 GREAT Bang for the Buck Upgrades to make a Ford Focus ST Rock!

  • In this video on the AutoEdit TH-cam channel... you will see the three most cost effective yet highest rewarding upgrades for the new Ford Focus ST and we install them on my nephews car!
    That is my nephew Michael Dean, and his pride and joy... a 2017 Ford Focus ST. He really loves this thing and wanted me to teach him more about wrenching on cars and help him install a "tuner kit" on this little turbo charged hot rod. After doing a bit of research... I found kits costing over $2500 and only gaining 40 or 50 horsepower.
    So... I went to one of my favorite brands... Flowmaster and put together my own kit out of three different items they offer:
    First up is a Delta Force Cold Air Intake
    www.flowmaster...
    Next up is the Flowmaster Delta Boost Module
    www.flowmaster...
    Exhaust kit
    www.flowmaster...
    Full retail for all three parts is still less than half the price of other kits and offers similar horsepower gains and a hugely improved overall driving experience. Plus, they have sales all the time so you can save a bit more. Flowmaster doesn't sell this as a tuner kit yet BUT THEY SHOULD!
    Plus this was just an awesome day of wrenching with my nephew and I was just stoked to share some car knowledge with him and see him enjoy the process.
    Thanks so much for watching and please subscribe to the AutoEdit TH-cam channel and give me a follow over on Instagram...

    The ST is a great car. I can remember back when I was 19-20 wrenching on stuff with my dad and my uncle. Learned a LOT from driving old jeeps that always needed to be worked on.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah, it was a really good time! He works hard to make payments on the car and my first car was a tired old Maverick that needed work all the time so it's an interesting difference. I'm just stoked he's interested in learning more about wrenching and wants to do it with me.

    Cool Stuff! My uncle has recently turned into a car guy and we have tons of fun visiting the Pull-A-Part places in the Boise area finding items in great condition to replace faded panels, busted knobs, stuff like that. I've even found some performance parts for Mustangs that fit my Bronco, For example, found a $90 fuel regulator, pulled and paid $30 and it works like new.

    I’m not a kid anymore but my 2018 Focus ST was way TOO quiet, a drivers car has to have some sound to help you manipulate the engine . A TURBO car has to have. a loud blow off valve an a loud intake sound and a beautiful exhaust note . In this manner you don’t need to look at the instruments you drive by sound and that is awesome. All of those sounds are necessary to get many smiles per gallon !

    • @ST62382
      @ST62382 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ST62382 I'm in the same boat as you, my 18 ST is soooooo quiet but I fear to do anything because I know how easy it is to lose my warranty. They already found a oil leak and I know they were looking for a reason to warranty it.

You can hear the Turbo spin up , adds about 10 - 15 HP very noticeable, sweet Get this one you will not be sorry . These sounds will help you drive the car with out being riveted to watching the Tach

    Hey I really wanna thank you for making this video! I didn't know that Flowmaster made an intake for the Focus ST that was 50-State Legal! I've had my ST for just over a month and I've been researching mods like cold air intakes and have been frustrated by lack of emissions compliant choices (I'm from Cali, where you get seriously dinged for having non-compliant parts)
    So after I saw this video, I went to Flowmaster's website and found an affordable CARB legal intake! Score!

    For under $1k you could get a Cobb AP, FMIC, and Greenfilter and get a stage 2 tune (either Cobb OTS or pay for a flash tune). Catback is nice, but it doesn't really offer anything in terms of performance gains.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, this exhaust is worth the install for sound and high end looks .... don’t even care about the slight performance improvement. All that other stuff doesn’t do anything for the day to day enjoyment and drive ability in traffic and such.

    Needs a depo intercooler and a hard accessport, then you'd have the best bang for bucks mods.

    I have a Question. When putting the rubber around did you cut into pieces or just put it on in one go? If so is there any whole when installing it bc if the rubber? Maybe I just installed it wrong maybe but when putting on the rubber then installing it there is 2 small open airways bc of the rubber. Please let me know.

      Only because its what you bought and what you are familiar with. For less than $1000 you could run low 13's and on tire could run high 12's with the FoST

    Hey autoedit, really enjoyed the video. I was curious how substantial the gas mileage change would be for a series of modifications similar to what you and your nephew did to his st? I am assuming that the boost setting (I believe there are 4 performance settings?) on the module would have the greatest effect but I'm sure you know better than me. Thanks!

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He got worse mileage at first because it sounded so good he revved the crap out of it all the time and with the boost set low... a little better mileage.

    Hey guys! I have a quick question, I have a 2018 Focus ST with a mountune high flow air intake filter and mountune rear motor mount, I just installed the outlaw exhaust on my car and it feels like I may have loss some low end power, it feels like the car is a little slower off the line and doesn’t accelerate as fast as it did with the stock exhaust, am I just hallucinating or could i actually have loss power with the new exhaust system?

    'what all have you done to your car?
    "ya so I installed a blow off valve in it"
    'cool, let's start, take the valve cover off'
    "uh, how? idk how"
    bov must of sat on top the cover. lol couldn't put a heat shield together?

      The only Flowmaster things that drone are race mufflers that are being used on daily drivers. Misusing parts is the owner's problem.

  • @smueller12244
    @smueller12244 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    4 PSI doesn't necessarily add that much horsepower. The stock turbo begins having massive heat problems, and stops making power when you add more than 1-2 psi. It's out of it's efficiency range very quickly.

    Great video again as always. Like that you are getting young people into cars, not enough are anymore.
    I have to say that “cold air” kit should be called a hot air kit.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it is important to get the next generation into the wrenching aspect. This CAI kit is actually pretty good about sealing itself from the engine compartment and has a duct that draws from the front of the grill. I remember Freiburger pointing out that many of the older CAI kits drew air right from the hot engine compartment... not so with this one. If you noticed in the video, I admit that it may add horsepower but mostly looks awesome and sounds great. Flowmaster does provide a dyno sheet that shows actual horsepower gain from this part though.
