    ------------
    In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
    Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

      Probably because NZ doesn't make as much TV, and film as Britain makes British T.V. and film. So, N.Z T.V.. is more U.S. imported shows.
      It is cheaper to buy American, than to make a quality T.V. show that can compete with U.S. production. Particularly children's television. The same in Australia.
      When you grow up learning early literacy from Sesame Street, and American cartoons, and films, etc.,certain American accents can become second nature.

      Operation Sea Lion was the name of the actual German plan so the game would likely be given the same name. Board game was around in the mid 70s, Baddiel is about ten years older than me so the time frame would work. I could understand the game being produced in the 50s to 60s as such but 70s is odd. My generation had our grandparents In the war and our parents born shortly after but still with Rationing. I feel old 😕

    But are Buckaroo or Operation really board games?

    • @SgtSupaman
      @SgtSupaman หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well, "board game" can be synonymous with "table top game" (which these certainly are), but I'd say Operation would count regardless. The man is just a board with holes cut out for the pieces to go into.

    • @KikiSohma
      @KikiSohma หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. A board game is a very large umbrella term that encompasses many party/group games. Any game that moves "pieces" on a "board" will count. However, the board is not limited to things similar to the recycled paper board for playing Monopoly.
      One way to categorise board games is to state how the game is played. Both of these games fall into "Dexterity" board games which, involves physical skill, whether using the whole body (e.g. Twister) or just the fingers for moving things about (e.g. Jenga). This can include balancing things.
      In Operation the dexterity is about using tweezers to remove pieces from the cutouts in the man without triggering the alarm. So the pieces would be the butterfly and bones etc., and the board is the man.
      In Buckaroo you are balancing things on the donkey. The items being balanced are the pieces, the donkey is the board.
      Also, to clarify, in Twister, the mat would be the board and the players would count as the pieces.
      In Jenga, I think the wooden blocks count as both the pieces and the board.
