    The Monkees' debut in 1966 was the perfect time for me! I was 8yo and already had a notion of one day being a Drummer. Their songs were harmonious and easy to play. I started Drum lessons at age 10 and studied for 3 years. Every Rock Band on Top 40 still left room for the Monkees and their Pop Rock along with Bubble Gum Rock and Doo Wop from the '50's. Their antics on the Monkees Show, first in Prime Time along with Batman and the Flintstones were sublime and watching them perform (or not, I really didn't care) a song during each show was penultimate. They gave way to Donnie and Marie, The Hudson Brothers and even The Archies Cartoon Show! Periodically I watch the original Shows on TV and have several on DVR along with CDs of their Music. I appreciate the projects that followed but they just don't do it for me. To me they live on in my head, my hands and in Video.

    I have always and always will just love all four monkees, they have always been beyond amazingly talented and devoted to their fans, their music, their art. They have enriched the lives of anyone who ever embraced their talents. Long live Micky, with love, good health, abundance of love encircling him always. We always see each of you as you were in the beginning, young, innocent, sweet, and so humble, so cute, so funny.

    Wonderful tribute story. Thank you.
    The Monkees will always be one of my favorite bands.
    I grew up in the 60's, and graduated high school in the 70's.
    To me the Monkees were the voice of the youth during that time.
    Their songs are still favorites today. I have a CD I play when driving
    in the car. When you hear the music or see their faces, there's always
    wonderful memories and new ones for the fans of today.💗✝🙏

    I'm now 70, as I grew up with so many legendary band here in the U.S. & England. I too
    was a fan of The Monkees & bought their albums as they came out. Being in a band is
    1 of the hardest jobs, because u must devote a lot of time to it to make sure u still sound
    good. Not everyone who is in a band is a good song writer, this is something that needs
    a lot of work. I think the most talented of The Monkees will always be Mike Nesmith, a guy
    from Texas, who as soon as he learned to play started crafting his own music together.
    Davy & Mickey were good singers, Peter was a backup musician, he was like the
    George Harrison of The Beatles, John & Paul were The Beatles-Mike, Mickey & Davy were
    The Monkees. 7-28-2022

    I love nostalgia and the great songs from the 60’s. I remember the tv show these guys had in re-runs back in the early 70’s. I was a kid and the show along with the music was reminiscent of my youth. I know how touring at times can be stressful. I’m a human being and I get it. People in the music industry can fall prey to alcohol abuse and drugs. But, let’s be realistic. These guys were able to make good money touring in the 80’s, 90’s and 2000 from the popularity of the old tv show. Most people don’t get that opportunity. We’re stuck relegated to punching a clock and having to work an 8 hour shift that we hate. All these guys had to do is show up, relatively sober, to a certain level, and sing songs that they already know. They had back-up musicians helping them with the tour along with promoters booking the gig in different cities. They got paid pretty good compared to slobs like us. I admire Davy and Mickey for their commitment to the tour. But when I hear things like Mike agreed to do the tour, then when there’s a hick-up along with way, he quits. Also, when I hear Peter can’t keep it together with the booze, then I say to myself, I feel sorry for Davy and Mickey who seem to be the responsible ones that agree to the commitment of doing the tours, but get bummed out when the other two always seem to louse things up. I say, boy, if I had the opportunity, I would love to commit to the tour and it would do my heart joy to see people in the audience enjoying themselves at the show. How can someone screw up a great gig like this? I could never understand if a studio or record company or tour promoter agrees to take a chance and give these guys a great paycheck just to have fun and sing the songs that people love! Wouldn’t you love to have an opportunity like that dumped in your lap? This crap about Peter not wanting to perform, being drunk, wanting his group there, that’s a lot of crap. Nobody wants to pay good money to see his fellow obscure members of his unknown group. People want to see the Monkees. And with Mike being a prima-donna always dropping out for silly reasons, doesn’t show me he is willing to commit to something. The other two guys were very responsible and as a promoter, I would respect that. Think about it, it takes time setting up big events like this. The logistics alone is mind-boggling. All they gotta do is agree to the terms and show up relatively sober. When performers pull crap like this, it sends a message, they can’t commit and nobody wants to touch them, book them. Who wants to go through refunding all the venues, individual ticket holders, etc etc. I think if I was having a bad day, knowing that all these people are counting on me, I most definitely will be able to pull it together and give it the old college try!

    I was 11 yo way back in 1966, the target age for the Monkees. I have seen all of the tours except for their first multi city tour of the US. My aunt went to the venue on her lunch break and they were already sold out. I did see Dolenz Jones Boyce & Hart, which was awesome and of course every tour since. The Monkees have been in my life from the first drum beat of the TV show. It's been a great ride, and I will be attending Micky's shows for as long as he continues to perform. They have and always will be my happy place in life and when I feel down, I play their shows.

    Wow, I thought I was pretty much over the deaths of the three of them, but I cried throughout this. It's so hard to believe they are gone. Micky is probably the best as last man standing because he had the biggest voice, and if anyone can carry on their legacy, it's him. Still, it's so damn hard! Thanks for this.

    It was all over when Davy died. He was the heart of the Monkees. Somewhere along the way, Micky morphed into this guy with a crooked hat glued onto his head, and Roger McGuinn's psycadelic eyeglasses. Peter stayed the same - hilarious, lovable; and Mike remained aloof.

    I've no idea why the Brit press thought to "come down" on Michael about his playing. Weird. He'd actually greatly expanded his guitar playing skills, was in great voice and continuing to write great songs. Only thing I can think of was the press just needed something to complain about, no matter how manufactured (yeh, who's manufactured now?!), considering what great shows they put on and the huge crowds they attracted. Certainly the fans were more than pleased. (Btw, JUSTUS did get some nice reviews. Some great work showing their range, diversity of styles and vocal and playing chops.

  • @tod3msn
    @tod3msn ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Mike coming back in the later years took a little lightness out of the band. Justus was harder and not a real Monkees s pound which was Mike Nesmith’s influence with preachy lyrics harder guitar sounds. My favorite post 60’s Monkees record was “Pool It” which the title reveals to be a light hearted pop sound that typifies the Monkees and had Peter, Micky and Davy on it. It was from 1986. I’d highly recommend it.

    The big problem with GOOD TIMES, to me (and I know I am in the minority) is that it didn't feature enough of their own written material. I never cared for many of their super popped-out songs written by "outsiders" to the band, even if they did a great job with them. Just something far more special to hear them perform their own, organically-"grown" material, which I generally always found more unique, more fun and intriguing to listen to.

    • @1189paris
      @1189paris ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You make a good argument but what made "The Monkees" famous were the great songs written by Boyce & Hart, Goffin & King, Mann & Weil, Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Paul Williams and John Stewart. The success of the hits allowed them to record their own songs which are personally my favorites like "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", "Randy Scouse Git" and "For Pete's Sake".

    Nice video, but the Christmas Album was actually their 14th album. They had 10 albums in the 60s. Pool It album from the 80s were the 11th album, then Just us, Good Times and then the Christmas Album.

    • @PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm
      @PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They had 9 albums during their initial run 1966-70; (1. The Monkees 2. More Of... 3. Headquarters 4. Pisces, Aquarius... 5. The Birds, The Bees... 6. Head 7. Instant Replay 8. Present 9. Changes). In most cases Christmas albums, "live" albums and greatest hits albums are not considered part of an artists catalogue the same way as "regular" albums are, probably because they tend to be comprised of mostly covers or previously released material.
