I think it should be more usefull to show what happens when the solar power is dissapearing or when its producing power , since thats the most realistic scenario.
Thats not really how it works, youll have solar going into batteries, the batteries go to inverters and the inverters change the battery voltage to house voltage, the switch stays on the solar side till the batteries drain, then switch over to grid power until the solar has gotten back up to a certain point
I've created one of this using 3 5A SPDT relay for auto and manual switching and another 2 30A SPDT relays for main power switching (you can replace it with higher current) , faster switching than this one and no switching delay. I've never tried using mosfets on creating this circuit, maybe I'll try sometime
Yeah - I was going to say the same - loads of devices would need a constant supply - it probably isn’t healthy as well to constantly having it unexpectedly turn on and off again
I have to agree with you. It is very simple as long as you do not need to control it manually. I used a relay in a design when we needed power on a heater on a aircraft after the generators was off. I even used a diode to let it use only half power when on ground.
@@christophercuevas2599 yes, but the way its set up right now, you only use the solar panels when theres a power outage, and you better hope that outage don’t happen at night
You don't just use "solar" you use battery to store the electricity and to stabilize the current because solar panel sucks at making constant current because the sun light always fluctuate. If you're connected to the grid you use the solar panel to store the excess electricity until it's full and the rest goes to the grid which will reduce your electricity bill because you're paying by making electricity for the grid just like a small power plant. And if power outage happened, the stored electricity in the battery will provide your house with constant electricity while being charged at the same time by the solar panel.
@@LeftOverMacNCheese you’re explaining this to someone with a solar plant on their roof, but thanks for the pedantic explanation that also completely misses the point. Yes, solar charges a battery. You know what we call this system? We call that the solar, because much like how your iphone needs a battery to function, we consider that to be part of the device And you missed the point that this person is drawing exclusively from the grid until there is a power outage, which means theyre paying for grid electricity while their battery is getting more and more full. This would already be bad in a normal setup because feeding in gets you a lot less money than you pay for taking out, but this setup CANT feed in, it can only switch which source you draw power from, meaning your batteries get full and any excess sun is wasted and you keep paying for the grid. Do you get why i think the way that its being demonstrated in the video is a poor method of hooking up a solar array?

Nope, you need a UPS for that. And even if the ATS can switch instantly, the power source may not be able to. Many facilities use backup generators as their second power source and those take a couple seconds to start up.
If the mains is off, it works by sensing the presence of a voltage on the backup supply. It uses the electricity from the back up supply to cause the mechanism to rotate. The backup supply is permanently connected to the internal electronics and mechanism which uses a very low current. When it rotates it is closing high current contacts to enable the electricity to be transferred from the backup input to the output.

According to the video you can, it will automatically switch between grid and solar.
