Honestly, I feel like because we keep going back to the Eb chord, the mystery scale is actually an Eb major hexatonic. It's a major Eb pentatonic with a leading tone (D). Love you Peter. Totally going to shed this idea in several keys, because I need this vibe.
My favorite Peter Martin moments are when he says "I'm gonna stick right with the changes on the page this time" and then immediately plays something that's not on the page. I'm not complaining though!! Thank you so much for this video and the continued education you provide :)
¡Gracias! Two things I still need : money for my open studio fees and time for practicing again, meanwhile luckily busy with junior and watching your lessons BIG THANKS!
Man this is literally the best piano lesson I’ve ever seen in my life. The format is perfect, the explanations are SOOO good and informative, and there is a real structure given for us to ACTUALLY implement and improve. Bonus is replaying all the cool little mini compositions in this video and dissecting them and trying to sound like exactly what Peter plays. Fantastic lesson thanks so much for the INCREDIBLE content.
Not only are you incredibly talented and knowledgable in music, the way you connect with us viewers through your insight really adds another depth to these live videos. Brilliant 👏🏻
I have been watching all of your guys videos trying to learn how to better play my pedal steel. I've got piano brain, so your guys videos really do help so much. Thank you!
You are very tasteful with your theory. I'm making my debut tomorrow. This was very helpful. I'm playing Everything must Change in G minor. YEAH!!! PETER!!!
Hi Peter , I have learned so much from you . Thank you for this ! (Just as an aside I notice a lot of compression on your piano here , it’s very nice for a record just wondering if you loose some of the dynamic in your playing when teaching here - anyway minor point ) . Thank you for what you are doing . Wayne
26:50 - There's nothing wrong with vanilla! Imagine waking up on a sunday morning, and instead of nice cup of coffee, you accidentally take a sip of raw lemon juice! You need to have smooth sweet sounds until you are ready for sour surprises.
Sorry for perhaps a stupid question.....if this lesson is in Bb how come the progression leads to the IV......and if i want to take to the I is it just a question of transposing or would some of the chords have changed voicings...many thanks Terry UK
Maybe this 6-note scale could be thought of as the union of the Eb and Bb pentatonics? The formula would then be to think of the pent of the key you're in, and the pent a fifth above.. I'm sure there are other ways but that one felt reasonable to me
Hello! Wow this is exactly what I was needing to take my playing and composition to the next level! Can't wait to dive in and practice this stuff. I joined a few minutes late so didn't get the chance to ask this question. In the third example, on beat 4 you land on a D moo chord. It's approached by an A diminished 7. I'm curious about how you think about that from a theory perspective? I've often done things like Eb diminished going to C/E, I think about it as half step approach to the 3rd of the chord we land on, which is also the bass note. This also works landing on the C in root position. Are you thinking about the A diminished to D2/F# in a similar way? Thanks!
I need help with the stretch for the right hand of the Cm11 chord on the 3rd set. What should I do to get a better stretch between my index and pinky fingers?
I'm not religious, but if I had a church like this I'd ask if I could attend just for the music. Ours is pretty lame imo, sometimes some cool classical ish stuff but seems mostly bland as far as my preferences go

Who would you recommend listening to for this style of piano playing?
Sunday Sunrise Songs and Symphonies
That scale omitting the major 7th may be referred to as "Scottish Hexatonic" in some circles...

I'm not sure, but I think the root movement of A-->F#-->Eb helps it work (although I added in the D approach to the Eb)

be careful, don't over stretch - try dropping or raising your wrist ever so slightly instead
@@pianopeter I'll give that a try, thanks!
Is there a cd that has this solo piano ? Or similar artist.

my bad...gotta get my C chops up!
Hexatonic scale is a generic name, but that's not very helpful as it means that it's made of 6 steps - not which ones are selected.

It's usually two triad pairs and the notes from those triads. Not that hard to figure out
Pick any six notes...
The hexatonic and hectatonic scales are not new and there are songs dating back over a century ago using them
