      Did you know the Bible makes a provision for the slave that is about to become free, telling how they should ceremonially allow the slave to become a permanent slave? I wonder why a slave would want to remain a slave? Maybe it wasn’t how we picture it in our mind?

    • @codyhelms2556
      @codyhelms2556 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

      @@antelopic Oh, the bible answers that question, too. It's because the slave's wife and children are being more or less held hostage. If the master gives a slave a wife, and she bears children, then when the man is free, because the freedom after 7 years only applies to hebrew men and not to women, he goes free alone, and his wife and children are slaves for life. So he can either go be free, or stay with his wife and children.

    • @antelopic
      @antelopic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@codyhelms2556 you either didn’t read Exodus properly or are intentionally deceiving - Chapter 21 Verse 3 : If he arrived alone, he is to leave alone; if he arrived with a wife, she is to leave with him.
      Now to what you didn’t leave out:
      Verse 4: If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.
      Wives were purchased by the groom to the bride’s parents then, and even to this day in many parts of the world.
      Also verse 5 is more to my original point : But if the servant declares, “I love my master and my wife and children; I do not want to go free,”
      Then verse 6 goes on to say how, and he chooses to serve his master for life.
      Now that just doesn’t make sense . And remember he chose to accept the wife knowing he would be free in 7 years. Knowing all this and choosing “slavery” (servitude) anyways - wow. My perception and reality must not be the same.
      Thanks for helping bring the reality of this”slavery” issue to light.

    • @queuecee
      @queuecee 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      You don't need morality if you are Christian. Jesus died for their sins, so as long as they believe that, they get a ticket to heaven no matter what they do.
      Sin is just something that they use to pass judgment on non-Christians so that they can feel superior by telling themselves that they at least admit to being a sinner.

    • @frompartsunknown687
      @frompartsunknown687 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Moral? Does God have the authority to play God? Then all you lost people can STOP with the "God is immoral" garbage for God taking life WHEN HE ALONE gave it in the first place. Does God owe you a certain amount of time on earth? No. God created ALL LIFE & thus OWNS all life and can do as he pleases w/ his own property (sovereignty). And since God is PERFECT, we can be assured that he will judge PERFECTLY. So don't let me see you spew this debunked garbage again.
      Slavery? No again. God freed the Hebrew slaves from Pharaoh, correct? And instead of freeing "servants," he made laws in their regard, because they were "servants" & not "slaves." The word "slave" is a bad interpretation, just like "unicorn" in the Bible is not really a "unicorn," but a rhino or elasmotherium. Then again, maybe unicorns did exist and we haven't dug one up yet. It's irrelevant to my points anyway. Try to learn.
      Incest? Adam & Eve had almost 100 children. And there was no entropy in “The Garden of Eden,” where all was perfect, including the genes; the DNA pure. Obviously, the sisters and brothers were marrying each other. Adam and Eve were perfect genetically and there were no mutations in their genes until after sin.
      You're debunked; learn from your defeat.

    I've encountered Theists like Calvin numerous times over the years, and it's incredibly frustrating to try and get them to acknowledge that their God is reprehensible according to the scriptures. They only want to use the bible as a guide for life when it's convenient for them, and when you bring up something as absurd as slavery or how women are treated, they always have either a pre-prepared answer they got from their pastor or an apologetic one to justify it.

      They VOLUNTEERED. Let me educate you. The only "slaves" were the Hebrew slaves under Pharaoh. And THERE WERE NO RULES for them. The rest that most people think were "slaves," were actually "servants." We know that by the fact there THERE WERE RULES. "Rules" make them servants - not slaves. And those servants were voluntary, because of debt owed. Example: Jacob had to work 7 yrs just to pay for his wife. And his wife's Father cheated Jacob, saying he had to marry his older daughter. So THEN Jacob had to work another 7 yrs to get the bride he wanted - Rebecca. And if Rebecca's father died, his oldest son could inherit the debt owed by Jacob - having it passed onto him. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever.

    In America, men once legally owned their wives. Like the Bible slaves, there were restrictions on how women were treated. America has come a long way, but I fear we are reversing course when it comes to women's equal rights.
    In one interesting modern court case, a boss fired his secretary but the boss's wife wanted her fired to avoid divorce because she was "too beautiful." The boss's wife didn't like the secretary because of the secretary's extraordinary beauty.
    The secretary sued for sex discrimination, which is illegal in the employment and she lost the court case. Apparently, to be protected by sex discrimination laws, we must be ugly men 😉 .

    Just recently picked up on Mat's videos which go back many years now and love the new show. Mat is an absosutle hero of mine now. The fact that someone as smart as Mat and having had the bible imposed on him at a young age to the extent that he was close to becoming a minister, demonstrates to me how imposing and poisonius the belief in God like systems are. Mat's clear and objective reasoning took him 25 plus years to make the final realization that the belief in any God or scriptures needs solid evidence and a moral exceptance to be fully justified.
    Fortunatly for myself (who does not have the same interlect as Mat), I did not have religion imposed on me and have had the privilage to stand back and observe all religions and deceide for myself in a logical way whether any religion was a path way or a leap in "faith" that I should take. Mat's clear and consise rationale and understanding should make it clear that all religions are completetly debunked until we have the clear evidence to prove otherwise.
    If I had been brainwashed into beleiving in a God at a vunerable age, I'm not sure I would of had the capacity to fully understand how all this BIble/Quran bashing works and could of been just as intrenched as most "believers" are!
    Maybe an all "knowing" God will finally realise that he's/she's, it's not doing the right job right in supplying us mere humans with the unequivicol evidence, so that we can all trully believe!
    Keep up the good work team.

    I challenge any honest Christian to read the whole books of Leviticus and Joshua and say with a straight face that the Bible is a source of morality. Deuteronomy is pretty sick, too. And Exodus. And Judges. And... well, the whole OT. The NT is just an apologetic sticking-plaster over it. I think there is no more vehement atheist than an ex-believer who takes the time to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Even with the flowery language of the KJV with its somehow poetic mistranslations ("and the voice of the turtle is heard in the land"), it still horrifies me that people take this as moral guidance.
