@@fredx6678 good call. I think part of the problem too was these were all new liners for that block and gasket so everything was as different as it could be
@@ScrappyIndustries For fun and edification. Try heating some super compressed copper that is totally non flexible till it is all one bright color, then dunk it in water. You will be amazed at how easily it bends and thus, would compress filling in all those differences as much as possible. Alternately, you could try it with wire or tubing that has been bent 3 or more times and now hard as a rock.
Thank you Sam!! For what you do!!!
Thanks Sam for your videos, it was a pleasure talking to you at the show. Your Paps Mack looks greater, than I remember the last time I talked to you. Thanks again buddy
Think about the men who showed up at work and spent 8-12 a day in a machine like this. No A/C, no cup holder and the engine 3 feet from your head. We need more men like that in the world today.
Oh yeah 👍
They didn’t need a cup holder, they kept the bottle tucked inside the shirt lol
Not looking at their phone every minute. No gross tattoos or earrings.
And you wonder why kids at home were well behaved...............😅
Lmao get the fuck out of here with your judgment…who cares if they have tattoos and earrings (obviously you lol) some of the hardest working people have tattoos and piercings
Thanks for preservation, , without people like you this World would be empty of history, thanks for sharing,
Every time I see a old shovel like this it makes me think of the child’s book “Mike Mulligan and his amazing steam shovel “
The history behind these machines is fascinating. Thank you for preserving and sharing it with us 💪
Sam and Matt, like 2 peas in a pod😁 Have a great weekend Sam👍
My Dad had a Bay City , always said it was older than the hills!! He said it was older than 1946 when he started his company. He had the boom too for crane use.
I wish I knew about this show when my aunt lived in California PA
Thank you for sharing this load up and issues with NOT being straight and leveling on load up. I love that CAT loader you have, no cab just big beefy ROP. 😊
The Ford semi load boy hauler, love the look of those fords 😊❤😊 I drove a Ford 9000 Fire Engine 🚒 with 5 speed transmission. It had a shifter that you had to shift perfectly or it grinds. But boy the stick shift went in gear like butter when you hit it right with the Detroit Diesel 8V-71 power. We had "T" throw switch for Emergency brake release, NOT the big YELLOW push switch. My 1971 SeaGrave engine with sping brakes you do the opposite of the YELLOW normal "E" brake to set and release "E" brake. I have to keep looking a spring brake release button to remind myself. When I let kids in the driver's seat I have to watch them so they don't pull the switch on dash. 😊
One day you need to show how the clutches on those old machines work. They are a marvel of engineering and knowing how to adjust them properly can make the difference between a long day and a really long day when you are the operator.
You got it I think I’m going to try and make a little comparison video of the different manufacturers 3/4 yd machines we have a lineup of 4 different brands I believe all the same size machine
The show is about 1.5 hours for me. Think I will go on Friday. Never been there..looking forward to it. Maybe I'll see you there.
Thank you Sam.
Have a Great time at the Show.
Cheers.
We restore antique Gibson Garden tractors that were made in Seattle, WA in the 1940's. We get all our gaskets for the Wisconsin Engines from Olson's out of Gig Harbor. We loved seeing you use them too!
As a hard core railfan, I love your REA sign!
Glad you made it there.
I am also glad to see it at Brownsville. This is my all-time favorite shovel to run. Now I just need to remember how to get it to crawl again.
Having been there, I can assure you that Olson Gaskets does have a huge inventory of NOS and New Old Replacement Stock (NORS) gaskets. They have been buying gaskets for decades. And they employ people to make new gaskets.
My friend uses 16:35 old heavy equipment tires along the trailer ramp to help stabilize the loading and unloading, he uses them by placing them next to the trailer
Little pucker factor ride there young man, but you made it, no harm no foul, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
Thanks for posting this video and sharing the experience. Glad to see the head gasket isn't leaking. Good fun. Keep living the dream, Sam!
• Hooray for Olson's Gaskets! They came through!
• When doing the hot re-torque of the head studs, I think your plan to "loosen a bit, then re-torque" is probably the more efficient, sure, and consistent technique to use. If I rebuilt engines, that would be my default process. It's easy to teach and learn, and it works.
• That was a bit of a mess getting the cable shovel onto the trailer. I didn't expect such a small grade to cause such a problem. Well done to all three of you.
• I like the use of that wood block to keep the right track from moving any further towards the trailer frame rail. Doing that on both sides when you start driving on could be helpful.
• You might also consider permanently mounting a wooden railing onto/into those trailer frame rails. I'd want the wood to barely stick out from the frame rails (less than an inch (2.5cm)) to maximize the driving width remaining. But when a piece of equipment is misaligned and encounters a trailer frame rail, it'll encounter the wood first and not get caught on the rails. You could fabricate some mounting brackets, and drill and tap (or weld on nuts) them, then weld them to the trailer frame rails. Then cut, drill, and countersink holes in the right places on the boards, and mount with flange bolts or washers and bolts. And if a section of wooden railing gets damaged, it should be easy to replace.
I thought those flat bed trailers had fold out wings that essentially widened the base for oversized loads. Or are they for tying down wide loads only?
Hey Sam, just want to say thanks for the great videos! I've been watching you, Matt, Mike and Chris for a long time. I'd love to come up and meet all of you but I'm in Kansas City, too far for me to make the journey, but I'll be with you in spirit.
It's wonderful to see the adventure you guys get in to. Love what you guys do keeping this old gear preserved!
Jeeez Sam….. I so, so love the way your rig barks as she hauls heavy metal. 👍👍
I remember as a kid my best bud and I would ride our bikes to watch his dad running cable dozers or excavators whenever they were working close to home. Old Chet always had a smile on his face…
Good video-looks like a nice old machine. I really like watching the older machines working. Well done.👍
Much of the rest of the world would just be happy to have that equipment for daily use!!! We do it for the memories, but they know it is better than shovels.
It's good to see the old Bay City running again.
Got to love the old iron and the folk with the dedication to keep them running.
A great display for the vintage machinery show, is mending the access road.
With vintage machinery of course
At one time, ALL those machines were the newest, improved, top of the line equipment !! What we're seeing is better than what came before it !! And all u guys are saving/refurbishing this stuff so we can see how it was, and worked !! Thank you !!!!!
Hey Scrappy! If I didn't live in the UK, I'd come specifically to meet you! Best wishes.
dont put your self down sam.you are one knowledgable chap.
It's always good to find new sources of hard to find parts😊 wish I was closer
Like the video Sam and Frend , Love to see It on your CAM .
I love that show. I see a lot of guys I'm subscribed to there.
Got to love A CAT Power LTL.
Cheers
Sam 🍻
Love your videos Sam keep them coming, greetings from outback Australia.
Finding parts for antique equipment is always a Challenge. And the real challenge is cross referencing who made the engine or what engine it's based on. 4:43
Nice video. You r a good man for being hospitable to Peg. Sounds like a hoot.
Nice footage of the Ford smoking hauling the shovel
My heart was in my mouth watching you load that machine.
Great video Sam good to see Matt giving you a hand
Mom's foot surgery leads to infectious disease specialists. Prayer's welcome. Love Y'all
Thanks for sharing this great video mate all the best to you and your family and your friends
You guys have a nice collection. Just getting a peak at the No.12 and the D6 sitting there is a treat.
I like the way you lead the content. Great, quality video that makes me not want to take my eyes off
Good Morning Mr.Sam...Have a great day ..!!
Good video, wish you good health
While it doesn't super compare, reminds me of watching a cousin load up a tractor with waaaaaay to much weight towards the back. Not only did the tractor wheelie, but because there was so much weight leverage, it lifted the rear wheels of the truck and it started to roll. Wasn't very far, but those were the most puckering two feet of his life as he told me afterward.
How does this channel not have a million subscribers? You guys are awesome Sam I wish I could make it to the show.
Good going Sam ,keep that old equipment running and transporting it
Nice one bro, I look forward to any videos of this meet n greet and the show itself from any of the ones I am subbed too. Safe travels. Ken.
Shout out from a viewer watching in Bay City, MI! Very cool shovel!
Always a good time loading a Bay City! I had a model 65 with a D318 with a 1 piece head, wish it was 2 piece like yours!
You always get things done when you got a job to do Sam👍👍🍮🍮😎😎❤️
Over the period I've being following I've learned a fer amount about head gaskets, I am not a mechanic but I love mechanics.
Great video.
I know Matt's hollering anywhere.😊
Nice work the camera is very clear 👍
If you guys weren't 1,000 miles away I would be there, the steam show sounds really neat. Hopefully we will get a video with the highlights afterwards.
Good job guys love what yous guys do working on and saving all of those old machines keep up the good work
Defiantly on the Bucket list . Maybe next year.👍
Cant make the show, but have a fantastic time. You have a great channel.
Outstanding and awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
😁Hey, Great work. Sometime in future time you should rebush the track pads. Great video thanks
It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely family! Had a great time at the show and will be back next year. Will you be doing a meet and greet at the spring show?
You need the Diesel Creek Sawmill to cut planks for the trailer.😊 I know a Guy .. 14:46
1st time watching fantastic comment with diesel creek Matt I cousen in south east UK was a driver of a R.B 22
Thanks for sharing.
8:50 I usually only run in urbanized areas, so maybe I’m wrong, but I read the m-938 form as prohibiting oversize movement sunset to sunrise. Doesn’t mean I don’t do it anyway 😏 that’s the best time to move big shit in a major city.
Thanks Sam great video very enjoyable love that old equipment
Slick tracks with a slick bed make loading interesting :)
Sam, I have a suggestion on loading crawlers. I used to load a Koehring 2N, and Linkbelt LS 51 like this, I used to place two cushion blocks( plywood blocks used in pile driving work) that were 12"-14" square, and 6"-8" high. A set of 3 x 12's 3 feet long would work too. I would place two blocks about 1 foot from the front of the trialer, and the next set about 2 feet fromt the first set. This would ease the crawler up to the height of the trialer deck, and make a more level approch to the deck height. This would help keep the machine from clinbing to the sky, and sqirming around on the end of the deck, but supporting the rear idler higher above ground level. By all means, please try it. Being in the situation you were in was B A D, thats BAD! Love the videos.
Thanks Sam great video--love your truck!
To reuse old copper head gaskets' I use to soak them in hot water to swell them back up and coat then with silver paint...Did this on a lot of old Fords...
I have been going to that show for 35 years.
Thank you. Always a treat!
In the old days of GM sheet steal head gsk- we'd paint them with silver rattle can paint for a sealer.
I'll see ya there!
I do hope the machine makes a good appearance at running right, its hard work to bring old junk machines that have seen their best day already. All said and done, its better than most any machine of its age, undercarriage is rough and loading must of took a years growth off of you Sam
I have watched engine builders say that by re-annealing copper gaskets you can reuse them, but you must anneal them so the copper is soft again as copper work hardens.
I’ve heard that too. I’ll be honest I was a little afraid of trying it lol
Bay City Michigan strong with the heart of a caterpillar 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻👍👍
Excellent 👍
👍🏻🍻
See you there
I may bring the JD 350C
just subscribed on your last vid found you on matts vids. really like your content and fun. like the unit you got for lets dig 18 he sure likes it. nice to see this one up and going again. nice work. cheers.
Thanks Sam for the video.
I've used aluminum spray paint on automotive head gaskets and head good results.
I'd come down Sam but it is a bit of a hike from Ashland, Maine, so have a good time and move a lot of fun for me, I mean dirt, you have a fellow you tuber over in Washington County, check with Dave CCRX at the Iron Senergy coal Mine he might come over too. Dave D.
Love your channel! Maybe a dumb question, but why don’t you throw an old tire in between when you push metal to metal?? Stay safe!👍🏻🍀🍀🍀
Is that a 102” trailer? Just curious. Thanks for sharing 😊
Nope just 8’. I bought an 8’-6” 50 ton I am currently working on. More on that to come lol
Good job
Sam why don't you get some 8x2 and put them by the runners so when your loading the Bay the tracks will slide along those 8x2and keep her inline
Olsen gaskets has come through for us many times.
Hey Sam how you doing? I want to let you know that if I was in the area I would come and I would come talk to you you are one cool dude. Remember that. I look forward to your videos I've seen everyone you've ever done and sometimes I don't watch your videos back to back because I like to have something to look forward to. Peace from Oregon
Sam, was thinking maybe it would of been better to just move the trailer to more level ground than to go though all that you did to get the beautidl old girl on the trailer:-) but glad it all worked out. Hope you are there to film you and Matt, along with Mike [ Dirt Perfect ] and Chris [ Letsdig18 ] and anyone else that comes.
Man I'd like to come down to PA & meet you all. @Zip-ties alone is the reason I'd consider driving there, that guy is a trip & a half for sure(bring him a case of Busch 🍺). I cant believe hes driving down in any of his vehicles, I don't see any of the border guards letting his trucks drive over the border at all!😆 I just can't make it this year unfortunately, maybe next year. I'd love to come see all of this machinery puffing diesel exhaust into my nostrils! Love the smell of diesel!🛢️💨🚧👌🏻👍🏻🛠️🔧🚜🏗️🦺⚠️
✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻
As far as water leaks use stop. Leak .
At least you had room to work on that behemoth cat motor. Good job, guys..
Thats the beauty to alot of older equipment. Mechanicals easy to access for maintenance and work
Being born in 1945 this equipment is part of my life. None of my business what u guys pay for this equipment but i think it would be interesting to show the number of manhours and money to it cost to refurbish the machinery . How much money it cost to transport. It takes alot of detacation (sp). Ever have some words that just don't come out right?? Keep the vid's coming . Enjoy the weekend. I'm going to the AMERICAN THRESHERMAN show the 3rd weekend in Aug . Pinckneyville, il . Ol farm and steam show. If u enjoy this stuff stop by .
HEY! Good morning Sam!
