  • Info
    Company: Century Martial Arts
    Product: BOB Jacket for the BOB series bag
    MSRP: $149.99
    Compensation to CCK: None
    Date Created: Apr 18, 2016
    Product Specs:
    Fits any size BOB Bag
    Made from vinyl and high-density foam, with re-inforced stitching at the seams
    Overview:
    Ideal for realistic training
    Adds new dimension to your training
    Practice parrying & working around arms for realistic striking, trapping, etc
    Summary:
    If you watched my review of the BOBXL bag, then you know I already like the bag - alot. This jacket is a great addition to the bag, and at ~$150, it's not a huge investment. The addition of arms to your bag, for an art like Kenpo, is huge. It allows for much much more realistic training, and more scope - trapping, breaking, parries, locks, etc.
    Everything seems well made (we'll have to wait for the 6 month review to be sure); and I intend to test it out. The students are already salivating over hitting it.
    Oh, and the arms have a bit of spring to them, so knocking them out of your way means they are coming back - if you aren't careful they will get you! :)

    Interesting! cool. I was unaware there was an pre-made arm attachment. I just invented my own and made a video about it - "Build ARMS for your BOB or heavy bag ". mine is a little different and is made out of stuff you can find at the hardware store.

      Yup. We used pool noodles and a BIG t-shirt before this.

    The pool noodle idea is actually clever. I'll eventually pick this up, but I might try the pool noodle thing first. Thanks for the idea and the review!

      Glad it helped! For some thing I like the noodle better, but BOBARMS is still cool.

    I glad century martial arts came up with that idea for that bob dummy jacket. You could also put a chest guard over the jacket and a head gear on it to make it more thick, bulky and more solid! Then you'll have a complete Bob dummy!

    Good laugh. "14th century women's corsets" Thanks for taking the time to make this video. One could use elastic band around arms or around bob to position the arms the way you want and to make your chi sao more realistic.

    Please make a updated video of this......how jacket is surviving. ....any issue etc.
    I'm in two minds if this is worth getting for my bob dummy.

      Hey Michael! Has it been long enough to do a follow up? I'll check.
      Meantime, it's doing fine. The jacket is cool to "level-up" your BOB; you can do some trapping, blocks w/ entering, and if you stand just a bit to BOB's left, it'll line up on a pretty good fighting stance.
      I guess the real question is: what kind of training do you want to be able to do on the bag?

      I'm after a striking element with arms in way.....performing hubad drills....stick grappling etc.
      Would be great if there was a attachments for weapon hand on the arms.

    • @Charmcitykarate1
      @Charmcitykarate1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Lorimer George The arms are great for that sort of thing - we use them for trapping, checking drills, etc.
      I have put sparring-gear hands on the arms (for added reach, and so the students can relate the position of the hand), if you can get something like that, that will hold the stick, you should be all set.

    Bob jacket is a great innovation. Useful for practicing blocks against two punches or guntings. Would be nice if one or both arms had Velcro adjusters at the elbow so the arms could be straightened out. The jacket is fairly durable but mayb e hard to fit at first. Beat it for a while then reinstall.

    • @Charmcitykarate1
      @Charmcitykarate1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. And it definitely needs a refit after some beatings. Otherwise, it slides around a bit.

  • @kybone25

    Are the arms heavy? Can you bend and position them as you want? And are they made of plastic?

    • @Charmcitykarate1
      @Charmcitykarate1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not terribly heavy, but they are solid enough that you can't just slap them out of your way. Sadly, they aren't posable. I imagine that would make them far less durable.
      Not "plastic" like a soda bottle, but there is a vinyl cover (the black parts) similar to the material Century uses on their other VS bags - it's much more leather-like than the smooth vinyl of the Wavemaster bags.

    If you want to improve on your BOB, check out this DIY project I'm calling BOBLegs. It's a wing chun leg for front leg kicking and outside foot position, as well as a kicking leg on springs that allows you to work kick defense drills, intercepting, kicking around a barrier, and more.

    Looks pretty cool. Is it made in the USA? I thought BOB was, so I was curious. :D
    Here is your quick and friendly reminder to watch your religious exclamations. ;-)
    I couldn't help but notice the knife clipped to your pocket since I'm a knife, gun, and gear in general guy. Is that a Spyderco?

      +TheCrushmaster The Jacket is not made in the USA, sorry. Though I am surprised that China has not tried that trick Japan used back in the '70s of naming a city USA, so that they can say products are made "in USA".
