      Their musicianship is unmatchable, but the mixing is not by them. They have a great team of engineers working with them. Mix these two groups together and you will have a truly great musical performance!!

      Saw them live last year. A highlight of my life. This was on their setlist. Was absolutely astounding. Crazy how without the lasers and HD projections... Just them playing live, sounds dozens of times better than their digital tracks with $300 headphones. Even after 30 years of playing.

      Jesse Herbert oh you'd be surprised at what my musical knowledge is lacking. I thought I was well educated in all things music but if this channel has taught me anything, it's that I'm not in as good a place as I thought! Ask me about pre 1990 metal, I'm your man, ask me about 90s British alternative, there's not much I don't know, electronica, reggae and dub, psychedelic rock, space rock, trip hop, Americana, ambient, etc I'm fine with. I don't get lumbered with a single genre, I love music of all kinds as long as it's real, it's emotional. Learning all the time!

      they are an incredible band, just don't put them on such a high pedestal like the fanboys do- they're my favorite band but it's pretty cancerous to act the way uber fanboys do. Just enjoy the lyrics and don't think too deeply about the lyrics. Maynard and the rest of the band are geniuses, but at their core they are regular people just like you and I.

      Bass Lightyeah yeah I agree for songs to slowly lead someone into the band but I was just pointing out that if he LIKES stuff with crazy time changes etc and polyrhythms
      Then Rosetta stoned is by far the most complex

    Jim...Jim...Hey Jim, I love your first reactions to TOOL. It reminds me of my reactions the first time I heard these songs. I have been with TOOL since 1993. Thank you for taking time to listen to these masterpieces.

      Edward Mahler So not quite as of ‘92... on the first EP. What album is your current favorite? It’s always changing for me, but right now it’s probably Lateralus.

    You hit the nail on the head. They can make beautifully complicated compositions, yet they arrange it in such a way that there’s space between all instruments. No one instrument overwhelms the mix. Brilliance. Listen to Jambi. The guitarist (Adam), is playing essentially the bass line early on with palm-muted rhythmic patterns. Very unusual and unique arrangement. Incredible stuff. If you want the height of their instrumental capabilities, go for Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. They need to be played together, and you’ll probably want to scan the lyrics beforehand. It’s basically a story based on a very realistic acid trip a friend of theirs had. The music is serious, but there’s plenty of humor in the lyrics.

    The whole premise of this song is about maturity and development,while using alchemical,astronomical,and mythological symbolism.
    The irony is that Maynard doesn't want people to focus on the lyrics, but their lyrics are so well thought out and portrayed that you just wnat to. You start listening to tool once for the music,twice for the lyrics,and thrice plus ten times for repetition. And down the rabbit hole you'll go as well. Thumbs up.

    5:14 gives me goosebumps every time. Love the timing change. Tool are masters of the art of playing with timing signatures. Great band full of talented dudes. Look forward to hopefully hearing the new album this year!

    I must say, of all the reaction videos I’ve seen, yours is the most visceral. The bewilderment of everything they pour into their tunes and the appreciation of it along with the technical comprehension of what you’re experiencing are a pure joy to watch! Cheers!!

    Don't try to follow time signatures with Tool. It'll make you lose yer hair... errrmm... well, you know what I mean.
    And speaking of tour-de-force, Tool made a song with lyrics according to the fibonacci sequence...

      Lateralus (that song) and Parabol/Parabola off the same album are absolutely beautiful.
      Honestly, the whole Lateralus album is gorgeous.
      And if you want to see Carey cut loose on the drums, Ticks and Leeches is the song for you.

    • @GoldTop57
      @GoldTop57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chris Check Lately I’m into their early stuff again too. Undertow is a great song. Shades of the prog that was to come. Intolerance also . More aggressive, but so great

    • @HollowGolem
      @HollowGolem 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Their other early stuff is fine, but Lateralus is far and away my favorite of their albums. They'd have to work pretty damn hard to top it in my eyes.

    • @GoldTop57
      @GoldTop57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Check No doubt it’s their best top to bottom. Personally for me 10,000 Days is next, Undertow, then Aenima. I’m in the minority as far as putting Aenima last, But for me I just didn’t connect with that album on the whole like I did the others. Although I do think Aenima has probably at least a couple of their best songs.
