Hi there I hope you could answer my problem on my brakes. So, when I step on the break while im moving or constant speed my breaks delayed on gripin out like when I press again on gas I can feel it remains on grip.
It definitely sounds like u got either a sticky caliper or a brake master cylinder thats sticking..if it feels like all 4 wheels are gripping then it might be ur master cylinder
This is the best brake video I have seen . Most informative . I've got a screeching noise and after front brake pad and caliper replacement , the screeching noise is still there . I was told it was either the strut mounts and or the rear brake pads . Now I'm wondering if brake pad lubricant was used when replacing the front pads and calipers . When you moved the car back and forth , it's the same exact sound I still am hearing . I dont think it's the strut mounts making that screechy noise . A strut mount is more like a thumping noise , would you agree sir ? Have you ever heard a strut mount make a screeching noise ? I've already ordered the strut mounts , so they will be put on , but I'm just wondering . I also replaced the sway link bushings , so I know it's not that making the screeching noise . Although this has been extremely frustrating, I have learned alot . It's like a puzzle and I've almost got all the missing pieces put together . I tend to think the screeching noise is coming from the rear brake pads . I told this person to put the rear pads on first to see if that doesn't stop the noise . This person is not the brightest bulb in the box , so to speak , but he does have alot of experience working on cars . He has fixed my car several times before this and has done a good job. But for some reason we're having a hard time fixing the loud screeching noise . I think its rear pads because when I step on the brakes the screeching stops . I apologize for such a lengthy comment . Thankyou for your time . 🚗
Thank you🙂 if its a constant screeching itll probably be something rubbing..if done after brake job..ive had to repair some that were..1)backing plate rubbing...2)the hardware was bent abnormally so it would rub against rotor the whole time...3)no brake lubricant so it would vibrate and cause screeching noise also but that was more only during braking..strut mounts yea would be more of a thud or grinding as u turn..but those u could kinda check with car standing still bouncing it up and down..and turning steering wheel while parked(but u say its in rear so cant really check it that way on rear)...could be a squeaky bushing but yea ud also be able to bounce that while parked and hear it..so based on what u mentioned im leaning towards something rubbing on rotor
What i would do is have someone outside the vehicle just listen to each wheel as u brake near em..to try and pinpoint if a specific wheel doing it..grinding could be the backing plate rubbing against rotor..they bend easy so it could easily happen...could be ur brake hardware rubbing aswell usually that middle part that goes across caliper bracket that goes over rotor..maybe even if u got new wheels or something..just look for any sign of brake caliper rubbing against the wheel or tire rubbing on something..a whirring sound yea normally is related to a bad wheel hub/bearing..normally get louder as u speed up and on turns when more pressure is put on the bearings.
@@backyardchevy328 ok. Something must be rubbing because I hear whirring at 10-15 mph constantly and sometimes brake grinding noise while braking although all brake components are brand new.
@@teeveewatchinskater yea just look for anything rubbing begin with cv axles make sure nothing is rubbing against em as they spin..something rubbing against tire...any place that spins..but yea if u can pinpoint it to a certain side or specific wheel it usually makes it a lot easier(if u don't notice any rubbing, id probably get a second opinion on wheel bearing if its bad)..brake noise while braking could happen if they didnt put any brake lubricant, so when the brake pad vibrates against the hardware or the brake caliper vibrates against the brake pad..it gives u a high pitch squeal while slowing down
@@backyardchevy328 I did think about lubrication. I'm going to go back and lubricate the pad and hardware and check for any signs of rubbing. Thanks for the help!!
I have had new rotors and pads fitted in the rear and ever since I have a squeeking coming from my back right when driving slowly or when turning right, do you know what this could be so I could take a look?
it could be a wheel bearing, but i would check to make sure backing plate isnt rubbing..the hardware u can lubricate that and the guide pins to make sure they're not sticking..and one ive sometimes seen cause that is if the hardware is rubbing against the rotor in any way...if all that checks out fine..it could be the wheel bearing/hub
@@backyardchevy328 thankyou for taking the time to reply I really appreciate that, I had the car jacked up today and checked for play in the wheel bearing by trying to pivot the wheel, it's solid, I'll get the wheels off tomorrow and see if I can lubricate all of the hardware, it seems strange that it has only started once changing the brakes though, should have done them myself! oh well can only learn by doing!
@@josht2454 anytime🙂...hopefully it helps..yea sometimes all it takes is some lubrication if they werent lubricated properly or if it has original hardware u can try using new hardware or cleaning then lubricating
Well u can do a brake fluid flush with the dot 3 brake fluid, and try and get most of the dot 4 fluid out since itll probably be dirty..if u mix a lil it wont harm it, its just dot 4 brake fluid has a higher boiling point..once ur done just top it up with dot 3 fluid
I'm losing my mind with my brake issue and going broke paying mechanics and yet the problem still remains. I have had my front rotors and brakes done and I've had the back brakes done but yet I'm still hearing strange loud screetchy groaning sounds while driving and sometimes when I put the brakes on to stop there is a horrible crunching sound. I'm praying somebody will figure it out before I go broke, this has me so depressed.
It does it when driving? How about on turns, does it get worse turning to a specific side? Could be ur wheel bearing is bad, wheel bearing/hub will sound like that and get louder and faster the faster u drive.
@@backyardchevy328 it makes the moaning sound pretty much constantly as long as I'm in motion but stops when I stop but the horrible crunch only when I brake but not every time I brake.
@@brendatrump5163 yea that to me sounds like a wheel bearing/hub...the crunch sound when u press brakes normally comes when the brake components arent lubricated maybe its got old brake hardware or theres dirt or rust affecting smooth brake travel.
@@backyardchevy328 I guess I expected the mechanic (s) to easily be able to identify the horrible crunch when braking but evidently they haven't been able to. He's going to change out my back rotors Monday and see if that stops the nightmare. Thank you for replying to me!!!
Hi I have a 997 turbo s with ceramic brakes & when I brake gently to slow down it makes a sound as if the pads are worn yet the pads are fine. Any idea what it could be ? Thanks in advance.
Normally thats from vibration, have u tried lubricating the contact points with disc brake caliper lube?(where the brake pad rubs against the brake pad retainers and where the caliper contacts the brake pads)
Any chance its the rears? Or were they all replaced? Cause a grinding noise is usually associated with wear...but if it was a squeal itd be more from vibration maybe itd need lubrication on the contact points
@@robertomolano6005 what i would do is maybe have someone stand outside and brake in front of em see if u can pinpoint it to a specific wheel..and maybe youll have to inspect that specific one and look for anything that shows signs of rubbing on the rotor or even against the caliper on the inside..or even look on the inside of the brake pad for something that looks abnormal
I get noise when I drive and it goes away as I brake. What could it be? I changed the pads, and my mechanic said the rotors were good. Could it be the back plate against the rotors? Or a wheel bearing?
Does it get worse when u turn a certain way? Or if u swerve? If so it could be ur wheel bearing...the backing plate would rub at all times if it was up against rotor so i dont think itd be that.
@@backyardchevy328 doesn’t get worse when I turn. Squeals when I hit 40mph on the first drive then gets louder as I go slower at a light or neighborhood.
@@ACFunez sounds like itd be a wheel bearing but with bearings normally they get louder on turns as it puts side pressure on the bearings..other than that maybe make sure new brake retainer clips were used and lubricated where the retainer clip and brake pad plates contact..also where caliper contacts brake pads.
My dad has a 2004 buick and when you hit the breaks they howl or sounds like a whale it's pretty loud he replaced the rear breaks but the sound is still there
@@lamontt9127 it depends on many things i wouldnt be able to say for sure without looking at everything...how far down to metal did it go? What about before when u would brake would it kinda swerve to one side
@@backyardchevy328 it doesn't swerve just grinds pretty bad its my nephews vehicle...he said when he heard the brake pad fall out the pedal went straight to the floor..luckily he was in a parking lot so he was moving slow...after awhile the brake pressure came back and the pedal was no longer going to the floor..he managed to get the car home driving slow he drove about 2 miles and hasn't driven it since. He already ordered new rotors and pads so that's taken care of jus didn't know in a issue like this If the caliper is still OK to use
@@dee468 normally thats more of a squeal due to vibration..and can lubricate the contact points and caliper guide pins to get rid of that noise..but if its a grinding theyd have to look for something metal rubbing against metal
@@ocram1493 well normally a high pitch squeal when braking is related to lack of lubrication cause of metal to metal..or if they maybe reused the old brake hardware...and if it only does it when u brake it probably wouldn't be related to anything mechanical cause if it was something rubbing it would do it at all times...my best advice if u had someone do it.. is just to have someone else look at it depending if theyll charge u or not..just tell em u had ur brakes done but it has a noise on that side and maybe theyll be able to find the cause
Sounds like a rubbery type of sound..almost like the rear brakes trying to grab but when the rotor is uneven so u get a grabbing sound and then lets go...or could be maybe the caliper pins need lubrication
your voice is pretty hard to understand, too much bass in it or something...very muddy, vibraty. Strongly suggest trying to reduce echo in room (like, make sure the mic isn't near any surface like the monitor, or too close to the desk surface, near a wall) and I also suggest thinking about the Proximity Effect. (The PE means more base as you get close to the mic - try moving your mouth maybe 1 inch further away than usual...though this is only true for Cardiod mics...which is one of the most common types.) Moving that inch back should reduce the boom in your voice that I think is making you harder to understand. Oh and audio is only coming out of my left earcup, so always render a small section of your video before doing the whole video to ensure your settings are correct. Having a small sample render saves you time this way, helps you catch things. Even on mono microphones you should have audio coming through both earcups. So you made some sort of mistake there. Otherwise, I've been watching your vids, getting ready to change my breaks with 0 car knowledge or previous experience, and the extra tids bits you include are gold, as well as showing bad and good comparisons. Suggest going to 4k if you want to get more visual pop from these (tip: even if it's 1080p source video, YT does less compression on 2k and 4k videos...even if it's a 1080p video rendered to 4k - which is also called upscaling) Great videos, work on the clarity of your voice though.
Thank you🙂...yea i recently had to get a new mic cause that other mic started going bad and maybe thats possibly why the sound may be coming out of one side..and yea my voice is definitely something ive been working on since..ill definitely take ur advice and see if my future videos come out better🙂..thanks again.
Well if the rotors and brakes look fine its normally due to metal to metal vibration so yea youll wanna clean the brakes, caliper and bracket..then lubricate the brake pad edges that sit against the brake pad retainers..the back of the brake pads where the caliper piston and caliper fingers grab against...i got brake pad replacement videos that show where to lubricate em, might be more helpful

@@backyardchevy328 Thankyou so much for your help . You are a very knowledgeable and kind person .
I hope you have a wonderfully blessed day . 🌄
@@bellabookitty9047 thank you🙂 have a great day as well
What would you check if the grinding continued after a full brake job? The dealership said the bearing was fine, but it also "whirs" at low speeds.
@@teeveewatchinskater hopefully doing that fixes it...good luck🙂
Very informative video. Thank you.
Thank you🙂
I have had new rotors and pads fitted in the rear and ever since I have a squeeking coming from my back right when driving slowly or when turning right, do you know what this could be so I could take a look?
it could be a wheel bearing, but i would check to make sure backing plate isnt rubbing..the hardware u can lubricate that and the guide pins to make sure they're not sticking..and one ive sometimes seen cause that is if the hardware is rubbing against the rotor in any way...if all that checks out fine..it could be the wheel bearing/hub
Can u sugest me how to changing break oil from dot 4 to dot 3
Well u can do a brake fluid flush with the dot 3 brake fluid, and try and get most of the dot 4 fluid out since itll probably be dirty..if u mix a lil it wont harm it, its just dot 4 brake fluid has a higher boiling point..once ur done just top it up with dot 3 fluid
is it safe to use copper anti seize on back of brake pad? is it safe on rubber piston boot?
Well u can use em, but anti seize doesnt really function as a lubricant..its more for preventing something from seizing up
I'm losing my mind with my brake issue and going broke paying mechanics and yet the problem still remains.
@@brendatrump5163 hope it does..good luck🙂🤞 fingers crossed

Hi I have a 997 turbo s with ceramic brakes & when I brake gently to slow down it makes a sound as if the pads are worn yet the pads are fine.
Any idea what it could be ?
Thanks in advance.
Normally thats from vibration, have u tried lubricating the contact points with disc brake caliper lube?(where the brake pad rubs against the brake pad retainers and where the caliper contacts the brake pads)
@@backyardchevy328 thanks mate, really appreciate it. I will try that tomorrow & see if it solves the problem 👍
@@mazydee9931 anytime..hope it helps...good luck🙂👍
My brake pads and rotors are brand new, but after driving like for 20 min. I get a loud grinding noise when I brake. Any ideas what could be? Thanks
Any chance its the rears? Or were they all replaced? Cause a grinding noise is usually associated with wear...but if it was a squeal itd be more from vibration maybe itd need lubrication on the contact points
@@backyardchevy328 yes I replaced them all, rear and front, and I'm pretty sure the grinding noise is coming from the front.
Does the screeching noise vary? I hear a noise in my car but unsure cause it’s not as high sounding
When do u hear it? Just when u brake? Whenever the cars moving?
Good and informatics video but voice should be little more clear and loud
@@backyardchevy328 May I send you a video?

Have you ever had a Situation where the brake pad fell out because it's worn down to the metal?
similar, it wore down really bad that it wedged itself between the caliper bracket and the rotor
@@backyardchevy328 in that case could it be jus that the rotors and brake pads need to be replaced without the caliper being replaced?

What about grinding noise that comes and goes?
Under what situation does it come and go? Does the grinding only happen when braking?
@@backyardchevy328 yes, when I brake at a low speed. I just had my pads replaced.
@@dee468 normally thats more of a squeal due to vibration..and can lubricate the contact points and caliper guide pins to get rid of that noise..but if its a grinding theyd have to look for something metal rubbing against metal

@@backyardchevy328 i took it to a shop, they checked it again but said everything looks fine and that they dont know why its sqeaking.
@@backyardchevy328 but they said they lubricated everything,
@@ocram1493 well normally a high pitch squeal when braking is related to lack of lubrication cause of metal to metal..or if they maybe reused the old brake hardware...and if it only does it when u brake it probably wouldn't be related to anything mechanical cause if it was something rubbing it would do it at all times...my best advice if u had someone do it.. is just to have someone else look at it depending if theyll charge u or not..just tell em u had ur brakes done but it has a noise on that side and maybe theyll be able to find the cause

(The PE means more base as you get close to the mic - try moving your mouth maybe 1 inch further away than usual...though this is only true for Cardiod mics...which is one of the most common types.)
Moving that inch back should reduce the boom in your voice that I think is making you harder to understand.
Suggest going to 4k if you want to get more visual pop from these (tip: even if it's 1080p source video, YT does less compression on 2k and 4k videos...even if it's a 1080p video rendered to 4k - which is also called upscaling)
Great videos, work on the clarity of your voice though.
Thank you🙂...yea i recently had to get a new mic cause that other mic started going bad and maybe thats possibly why the sound may be coming out of one side..and yea my voice is definitely something ive been working on since..ill definitely take ur advice and see if my future videos come out better🙂..thanks again.
Shop said my brakes and rotors looked fine but that the squeak/squeal is from dust? Best fix?
Well if the rotors and brakes look fine its normally due to metal to metal vibration so yea youll wanna clean the brakes, caliper and bracket..then lubricate the brake pad edges that sit against the brake pad retainers..the back of the brake pads where the caliper piston and caliper fingers grab against...i got brake pad replacement videos that show where to lubricate em, might be more helpful
