    Excellent analysis. I wonder if you are able to provide an update for this year as to whether the app made any improvements to its algorithm or it’s just the same. If you are also able to shed any further analysis on sleep apnea functions of these apps that would be extremely helpful and appreciated

    With such terrible battery life, who would anyone buy them other than senseless Apple followers?

    • @planetphatness
      @planetphatness 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought one because it’s convenient with owning the iPhone, but out of the several watches I own I think Garmin makes the best smart watches.

    • @left0verture
      @left0verture 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery life was a big issue for me before I bought one as well. It’s definitely a lot less than (for example) Versa, but it’s not as bad as a lot of reviews would have you think. I have a series 5 and routinely wear it all day and all night before it needs a charge. Versa got a lot more, but didn’t offer anywhere near as much functionality. Of course, I do tend to be a “senseless Apple follower” (as opposed to...?). I like well designed, reliable hardware and software that doesn’t constantly need fixing and comes from a company that pays at least a little attention to my privacy and I’m willing to pay for it, so take my opinions for the uneducated and useless waste of bandwidth they obviously are.

    I don’t know, I feel like you’re being a little generous to Apple. Considering the hardware in the watch they should easily be able to track sleep cycles comparable to Oura rings. Yet Apple’s data that they give us is extremely vague and in my opinion not that accurate based on your test here.
    It’d be interesting if you did the same test but with the new Oura Ring 3 instead of an Apple Watch. Or maybe even throw in an Apple Watch 7 to compare both of them to actual scientific equipment. Since one goes on the wrist and one goes on the finger they shouldn’t interfere.
    Otherwise great video man.

    I don't have an some watch but i use the sleep cycle app on my android phone, any content about that? Also the app doesn't use the accelerometer anymore, it's only based on microphone, listening to your breathing, bed movements, and snoring

      What's your feedback until now? Is it worth it? Prons , cons?

    • @chrisogrady28
      @chrisogrady28 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoaoRSilva. i think its great, it used to be better years ago when it was based on accelerometer measurements with your phone in the corner of your mattress. But some stupid people buried it under the bedding and pillows so some phones overheated/set fires. Because of that the app now uses the microphone to guess movement.
      With that said, after a few weeks of nightly use it does very accurately track your movements and records embarrassing clips of snoring to listen to in the morning. It's not amazing for couples though, good for solo sleepers.
      It's also invaluable for tracking long term patters over a multi-year period. Has been fun to see how my bedtimes have shifted since covid.

      How can I even active this on my Apple Watch? Or do I just have to set up the alarm on the watch instead of the phone? I am wearing my watch in bed but have the feeling that sleep is tracked via my phone 🤔

    It feels to me like there is a misunderstanding here: I assume that the SleepCycle team uses "light sleep" in a broader sense, including REM sleep. If the app wakes you app when in REM, it would according to them be a good outcome. According to you it would be a bad outcome because you understand their promise to wake you up in "light sleep" as meaning "light" (!= "REM"). From what I understand, the goal of the app is to prevent your alarm from going of in deep sleep because that would make you groggy in the morning - or so goes the assumption of this. I don't know what the current state of scientific consensus is regarding best wake up time in the cycle, though. If you do know, I would love to hear from you!

    I downloaded this app on my iPhone and have a Premium account plus wearing an Apple Watch during the night. However, I dont understand where to turn on sleep tracking via my watch and not my phone?! I have the feeling, despite my watch (where I set the sleep cycle alarm) my sleep is tracked via the accelerometer of my phone. How can I use my watch for tracking?

    I've tried the app on my Galaxy Watch 4 to compare against Samsung Health. 6 out of 7 nights I go into deep sleep at midnight and stay there. I launch it from my phone which may be causing it to not use the watch.
