Mike Deering No one replied to your comment yet so I figured I would. As I’m hoping to play this in the next few years, my plan is to first get very comfortable playing the instrument. Some composers write for ethnic instruments with traditional technique in mind and some do not. For instance, Xenakis does not write for traditional technique on Rebonds. Here the technique of playing Zarb is significant. This is a long way of saying, I plan to practice technique on the instrument by itself for about a year before attempting this piece. Next I would learn the actual notes of the piece and the words separately. Also important to keep in mind is the pronunciation of the different language(s) Aperghis uses. You don’t want to perform this and speak with bad French pronunciation and inflection. Then after you learn the parts separately, you can put them together. I break it down this way because there is so much going on in the drum and voice parts technically and musically, that learning this piece without any of these preliminary steps would be extremely difficult.

Just do some coke and puch the drum as you like it, no one will tell the difference.

I did end up performing this for a recital. banger of a piece. I did the speaking parts in english and did the sound effects a little more like Jean-Pierre Drouet. The performer is supposed to take on the role of the racing machines, the audience, and announcer during a fatal race.
