Anatta: Without Self | Ajahn Pasanno

- The Buddha did not engage with the question "What am I?", explains Ajahn Pasanno. Instead, the Buddha taught that the five aggregates (form, feeling, perception, mental formations and consciousness) which we identify as self, are without self. Like a house without asbestos, when we search for it, we cannot find it. When we investigate the aggregates, we find no self there. When we attach to them as me or mine, we suffer. That is why it is critical to see the arising and passing away of the aggregates.
It is also important to develop samadhi - to get relief from the heavy burden of self view.
