- In this reading from the Winter Retreat, Luang Por Pasanno continues reading from Stillness Flowing: The Life and Teachings of Ajahn Chah, Chapter 8 Section 2.
Here, Luang Por continues reading from a section that illustrates Ajahn Sumedho’s experiences at Wat Pah Pong with the help of quotes and personal stories. He describes how he shifted away from an attitude which resented authority, discipline, and service, and how he began to appreciate those things which would sometimes seem oppressive or even unnecessary from the eyes of different cultures. These stories also help to paint a picture of Ajahn Chah as uncompromisingly harsh and loving in his spontaneous and unsystematic way of disciplining his disciples with his “bag of tricks”.
In the following discussion, Luang Por Pasanno answers questions on the “inner critic”, difficulties with cultivation of wholesome qualities, and his own experiences at Wat Pah Pong with Ajahn Chah as his teacher.
This reading was offered on Februrary 19, 2018 at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery .
