- I finally get to take the ultimate bait finesse combo out for a test run to see if I achieved my goal of casting the 1 gram trout magnet or did I waste hundreds of dollars?

How much farther do you guys think a spinning reel combo would cast a trout magnet?
Only the trout magnet or... how many grams to be that jig?
Well I would think spinning gear would cast less far do to the friction caused by the lone coming of the spool rather then the spool spinning of line like a baitcasting.
the bare trout magnet was 0.9 grams
@@grandfishing590 But the baitcaster spool is slowed down by the magnets. I think the spinning reel would do better in the overhand cast.

Nice setup. I have the 12 Aldebaran BFS reel. Had my air bearing few weeks ago but I did not want to change it as I am mainly casting 3gm minnows.
Broke my BFS rod last week for cast over the weight limit. Got to get a new rod.

Wow that's a nice setup! Performs really good. Today I caught some crappies n bluegills, on BFS. I was throwing a trout magnet under a float. Casting floats with the xf50, or BFS in general, feels kind of weird lol. I ended up using one of my weighted foam poppers instead of the float, as it seems to fly through the air a lot easier. It was windy.
Time to catch some fish on it now lol
You've achieved the GLOW Bruce Leroy. You are the master. Yes they do make 3# test. A few of the tetons I ordered are rated for 3-8

I discovered something interesting about Tsurinoya XF 50R model reels. Casting distance improves greatly if you use 100-meters to 70 meters of line on the spool. The braking system works better and setting it is easier. You really do not need any more than 70 to 100meters of line on any reel used for fishing freshwater. These reels are well worth trying. I bought a line-measuring device for ten dollars on E-Bay and it allows me to put exact amounts of line on any reel of any type. If this works on my reel, I imagine it could very well work to improve casting control and distance on your reels that cost much, much, more than an XF50. What do you think?
That's right! 👍My bfs reel works better and more effectively if I use less line. You can easier start the spool less weight and you have no need more line than 70-100 m. I think that so.
You should be very happy with your success. Your rod and reel combo is first class. On most small streams, you seldom need to cast to the limits of your rod combo you have built. The hardest thing with using Trout magnets and making a precise cast is losing eye contact with the magnet. Using a bright colored magnet will help keeping better track of your lure and trout seem to like them just fine. In addition, a lure that often works better called a Trout Slayer is slightly larger and a bit heavier. They are a tiny crawdad pattern and Trout love them. Another idea I would suggest is to spool up with a good braided line in six or eight pound test. It is the same diameter as two pound mono or fluorocarbon and last much longer. It works great for me. Two pound mono will not last very long and an improper tied knot will break immediately. I have used Trout Magnets for over twenty years and two-pound line just as long. Berkley Vanish use to make two-pound fluorocarbon. I have some left and have no need to look for more. I also use Berkley XL Smooth Casting two-pound mono and am on my second 3,000-yard spool. Braid is great for level wind reels. I use rods from 4-foot 6-inches to 10-foot 6-inches. Tiny water calls for tiny rods, big water calls for big rods. I also suggest you take a peek at the (Enjoy Fishing Channel) on You-Tube it is worth the time to watch. You have helped me with good information; I just want to help you back if I can.

@@THEREELTEST As a trout grows so does, the food they will eat. Why eat a little bug when you can eat the little Trout eating the little bugs. Big trout eat mice, snakes, frogs, tadpoles, and smaller trout. They are more difficult to catch because they eat a big meal and then go take a nap. They also live in places hard to reach. You must check out that Japanese Channel (Enjoy Fishing Channel) you will be drooling over the tackle and rods they use and their castings skills will amaze you. I promise you, it will enlighten you immensely.

Thanks for this test. Agree that a snap would not be used with a TM. In the end, accurate casting at less than 10 m would be the "reel test" with a TM on a trout stream.

I have more or less the same setup but without air bearing I just put avail spool plus extra magnets and what is important I’m using 0,6 PE 8x braid with fluo and my distance is much longer then yours with 1g lures, my breaking setup is between 2 and 3 try with Japanese braid you will improve your distance as well
you have the same Teton rod?
Not exactly the same but similar TTC602UL from 1g to 4g
I really like the working guy models under a kings ransom reels and rods. Some of the rods you use are sweet. I’m working on 2 rigs based on the black max platform. 3 Zirconium bearings in each reel. I’m still waiting for some of the parts coming from China 🇨🇳, I think they’re walking them to the east coast.

There's several companies that offers 3lb line. Shimano is one of them with their Aero match line. Drennan have their Supplex line in 3lb too, they also have Drennan double streanght 2lb 12oz.
After all those tests, what BSF reel would you say is the best? I had a Calcuta conquest but it was stolen. So now, I want this thing again, but not sure if I want to spend that money again. So I want the best BUT ahahahaha you know it's very disappointing spending a ton of money on the same item. But I'm not sure yet. Just thinking about this. Thanks

I use AV spools in all my 1500 ambassadors. Haven’t tried fishing with 2 pound tests but I use a lot of four and six. Lamglass makes a ultralight 7 foot two-piece that is awesome.
That is absolutely invaluable. I'll have to cast with my spin outfit with 2 lbs flouro to see how far it casts exactly. TWo questions: 1. Did you weigh that specific TM that you cast? They range from .8 to .1+ oz so that's a more than 20% differential. 2. Can you also eventually measure Revo's max distance? Would be interesting to compare stock REVO to this maximum tricked out BFS. Thanks again.
the bare TM was 0.9 grams. Id say the Revo hit around 30+ft but it was night and day vs this setup in castability and consistency

Nice review bro. Just got the Aldabaran and paired with the Senilite based on your review. I had some growing pains but now love this set up. I was able to turn and land a 9lb trout on 2 lb cxx. Not sure if I could have done that on an ultra light. Keep up the good work bro!

There is high quality jdm 2.5-3lb test line available, but the line you’re using in this video is actually about 2.5lb. Only difference is jdm line breaks at its rating and is thinner in diameter

I think you got a nice light fishable combo there but I feel a little slower action rod would fix the accuracy issues and add a few feet to the cast.

THE REEL TEST I noticed you did, I should have waited before posting a comment 😜 I have this reel and spool and a super ultralight rod with a moderate action. I need to get out and try a trout magnet.
what the lure rating on that rod? I have several JDM rods rated down to 1/32 and they all failed miserably to load this lure
THE REEL TEST it’s rated .8-3g. It’s a Kuying Teton rod TTC522SUL
I don't know if I should take the 30 version or the bfs I tend to cast 3.5g at its absolute lowest and 12g at its heaviest generally about 7 or 8g.
Any suggestions??

I am running the same reel setup. The 16ALD15R spool is a BEAST. How are you running Hedgehog BFS bearings? They do not make a 740 size needed for the spool shaft on the 16ALD15R that I have found. I am running a moderate Extra Ultralight rod. I am casting ice fishing lures less than a gram with decent results. Does the total lure weight you are casting 1gr or is that just the head?
Im just using the one in the palm plate. I think the bearing on the Avail spool has a larger inner diameter than what is available for the air bfs bearings. Get this rod when it becomes available so you can get the most out of that spool
@@THEREELTEST I got a really moderate, XUL rod I have been using. It loads with the light lures effortlessly. Trout fishing in streams is way better with this spool than the stock spool.
Wouldn’t it make sense to use a lighter line like nanofil , which would make casting easier and get more distance
Have you tested the trout magnet, this rod and the Aldebaran with the standard spool?
Ive tried the trout magnet on the stock Aldebaran BFS(as well as pretty much all my BFS reels) on several majorcraft BFS rods rated down to 1/32 and it was a total failure. Those rods cant load up the trout magnet. 15" tops with poor accuracy and castability
But not on the Teton rod. I can’t get this casting rod from AliExpress right now, just the spinning rod. Thanks...

Could you cast further with a HEAVY rod and BFS reel or regular reel and BFS rod??? Both using same test line.
lol good question. I had the new Antares out today and I was casting some upper level BFS lures on a medium powered rod a damn good distance. Maybe Ill do a test on that one day.
A Flyrod would have been much easier lol. ;-). Nice setup but I’d have to mod that rod handle as my hands are rather large.
Look up Area Trout Line, it goes down to numbers like 1.3 pounds.

No brother, the spool shaft on the Scorpion is much longer and thicker. Avail makes the same spool for the Scorpion BFS but its much heavier because they use a steel spool shaft

And one, one more...: How about a 6 1/2 or 7 feet rod for more distance....:) I have some blanks that are rated from 0.3 to 1 gram lures - it will load Trout Magnets all day with barely any effort.
what taper are they? Are you a custom rod maker?
Fast taper, but the entire blank will load. The fast taper is for greater sensitivity. I do build.
That reel is a little bit to beast mode for that rod

If you are looking for the mainstream brands I would look for a good condition used reel off ebay. That way you have proven reels that work.
And one more - wonder how much further if you used even thinner and lighter lines such as 2 lbs Nanofil or Nanobraid. Perhaps hit 60 feet? At that point, I think you are rivaling some of the finest spin outfits.

I dont like using braid because where I fish there is too many snags. And I dont like tying leader knots

just from memory, if i'm not wrong you have to put extra magnet on top of the OEM ones to obtain max performance for the aval spool. one question tho, if I want to spool PE lines on a BFS set up, do you recommend put backings？also, can I tie a knot on the "spool holes", will that deform the spool at all?
You outta try a medium action like a shakespeare ugly stik casting or something...i put an ugly stik tip on a medium abu garcia rod and now its 8ft but it cast light lures super far
Stop wasting your time with BFS if you want distance and sensitivity !!! A nice 7 feet JDM Ajing rod that rated 0.1 to 4 grams would launch that bait much farther and the setup is much lighter as well. When it comes ultralight fishing, Eastern European are the best and they will tell you JDM Ajing Mebaru rods are the way to go.
