Hi family, just wanted to share that one thing that really helped my dad with his diabetes is boiling bitter melon leaves and drinking the juice. Also, eating the bitter melon raw with lemon. My mom would cut the bitter melon into tiny tiny pieces and juicing a lemon to eat and drink together. Praying and supporting your family always!

Is this on a daily basis? And for how long? I would like to try for prevention.. I am not a fan of bitter melon but I also know I’m not getting any younger either🥴😬 thanks for sharing!

this is close to my heart because my dad is going through the same thing. And it is good to share experiences and learn new things from people that is going through the same situation. You can see and take it as it is. It does not cost to be kind. But this is a remedy for some. my dad loves melons anything that ends with melon hahahahahaha. cucumber is a family of melons but all in all most islanders HEY my dad is a stubborn tongan man and whatever the doctor told him he had his own theories. And he just ate what he wanted my mother she tells him you are your own enemy in everyting in life. But much love for you moe chef keep going You are blessed beyond your years ofa atu from our side

@coffeesunshine3221 When my dad first started doing this, it was daily, but after he got off his medication, it decreased. We monitored his sugar and increased it to daily if needed.

Hi Chef, I'm 31 years old and have been on peritoneal dialysis since December 2023. Reading through the comments and I agree dieting and restricting your fluids is the way to go. As a kidney patient we have to also be cautious with fluid intake which is something that doesn't get mentioned enough. Try a natural or holistic approach to avoid being pumped with different drugs because that's what we end up with - a bag full of pulls and injections. Don't be afraid to look into old traditional Samoan or even Chinese medicines - herbs and vegetables are very powerful. Switched up my diet & I'm no longer on my insulin or any of my diabetes medicine. You have a great support system there - YOU'VE GOT THIS ☺️🙏

  • @ropatitooala4804

You don't want to go on dialysis, if you can help it. Your life will change dramatically so as your family. My brother was on it for 9yrs. and his heart gave up one day while he was at dialysis. He left behind two young kids. He missed out on the rest of their lives. Heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure are very common in the Polynesian Community. You guys have small children and they need you to be around for a long time. I too am doing the same thing for the sake of my kid. E le oki seisi ile sui o meaai. Try juicing veggies sometime and you will see your cravings will slowly change. Alofa atu.

To be completely honest with you Chef, Dialysis is an option but if you go with this option you have to be completely obedient with your diet! I’ve suggested before that the best thing to do is to ask your PCP to refer you to a dietitian or nutritionist. Keep in mind not all vegetables are good for people with certain illnesses. You might think eating all that vegetables may be good for you but it might be making your condition worse, this is why seeing a dietitian or nutritionist can benefit & guide you in the right direction! Praying for healing & strength, especially for sis Rita & the kids! 🙏🏽❤️

Praying for you Chef that Heavenly Father continues to cover you with His Healing Hands. Only God has the last say in our lives💚 My mom I lost this past March from Heart Disease as well and I cried when you spoke about your Mom. My mom was a Single mother so this loss took a toll on me especially when she got diagnosed about 2 years ago after coming back from Vacation in Samoa. I commend you for sharing your situation because it is not easy to talk about. We continue to stand in the Gap for you & your family during these times. We love you Chef & your Family. My mom loved watching you guys and we always share with each other how amazing you guys are within your videos. I miss her very much because she would be crying as well. God bless you all💚💚💚

I think this is good lesson for your tamariki/children too. We adults do not want to pass on our diabetic habits to them. Changing their diet now to same as Chefs healthy vege filled one will prevent them from inheriting the same chronic diseases later in life. It starts now when they are babies. You are doing great by leading by example, Chef! Keep going.

Faamanuia le Atua ia te oe chef ma le aiga. May God's healing arms be wrapped around you. A few years ago I lost my dad and my sister to diabetes & renal failure. My mum fought renal failure kidney disease for over 30 years a was fortunate to get a kidney transplant in 2016 & she is still going strong. Thank you for bringing awareness again to diabetes and how serious it is and how it is one of the most deadliest diseases taking our people, due to bad eating choices. Hope you stick with your diet and work your way to a healthier, stronger you. ❤❤

Nice to see the family and baby is jealous of Rona lol so cute. chef glad to hear you are home. Chef take care really listen to those doctors and ask them lots of questions and you as well Rita. Chef one thing I learnt with my heart specialist, kidney specialist, lung respiratory specialist and my haematologist was I think I'm going to ask these questions and I would get there and forget wat I wanted to ask so I brought a note bad for myself to write down questions and one for my family to write down questions. It really does help and while the doctor is answering your questions Chef, Rita can write down wat doctors say.
I have a primary care doctor who I see weekly and she gets all reports from doctor's and they all work together because one doctor puts you on medication and that medication can interfere with other medications your on. So Chef I have had both Kidneys fail also my heart and lungs you need to keep oxygen levels good. Cause less oxygen in blood affects your organs. I understand wat your going through it's bloody tough. They can't fix me but they can keep me stable and stop from getting worse over the last 4 years I spent almost 3 years in hospital and in those 3 years I spent a lot of it in ICU. Now I have been home a year.stable not getting better but I'm stable doing exactly what the doctors and nurses say.. please Chef take care and you and your beautiful family are in my prayers daily lots of Ofa atu xx

Rita why not put in a request while Chefs still in the hospital, for a Dietician to help him with his diet. Chef needs a good rest everyday. He must also drink at least 6 to 7 glasses of water daily. And a healthy environment i.e. happiness, stress less all contributes to his recovery. Life is a roller coaster, but it is through pray, that we can all survive any challengers, we encounter in our life's journeys.

Chef please take care of yourself! My Dad’s side of family has diabetes and heart problems and gout. My Grandpa and Dad both had open heart due to emergency. So if you can watch diet, esp. the salt, and limit soda. Try the fruit flavor seltzer waters. But if you change everything too much it’s a lot to handle. Moderation is the key with diet. It’s all that good food we grew up on. Just don’t eat too much fried foods. Last month they told my Mom her kidneys were going bad and she didn’t drink that much that day because we were having long doctors appointments. So she was dehydrated. They repeated labs a week later and her kidneys were fine. Stay away from sick people too so you don’t catch a cold. Take care! You can do it Chef!

Hello, I just wanted to share some of the things that have happened to my Dad and my family,a year ago my Dad had cancer, my Dad loves to search on things, that's when he searched and finds out about fasting, when you fast it's like you are born again, those toxic in your body that were there from all the junk food we ate are gone, our ancestors lived to a hundred years old because they all eat local foods and meat, and they never get sick,us now we die around 20,30,40, to 50, because of the lazy food we eat, thanks to the fasting, my Dad has able to see me and my brother graduate year 2024, I don't know anything, but my help to you is to try fasting and let go of sugar,it will be hard, that's what my dad went through, but now he is here at home with us
