  • In this writing vlog I tried Leigh Bardugo's minimalist writing routine!! Leigh doesn't mess around with anything except the essentials in her routine and I learned a lot from researching her and trying out the routine myself!
    This writing vlog includes creating a story premise, outlining a short story, and writing the actual story completely. And of course, all of it done the way Leigh Bardugo would do it according to her writing routine!
    What do you think of this style of writing vlog? Do you like these sorts of writing routine videos? And are you excited to read Leigh Bardugo's new book Hell Bent? Let me know in the comments below and I'll get back to you

    Is anyone else excited about Hell Bent?? What other books are you all excited about this year?

      Oh my gosh soo excited! Ninth House was my first Bardugo, and it's one of the best books I read last year. I liked it so much, after reading it in the original, I almost immediately git the German audio book (after checking if the translation is decent, which it thankfully was), and I plan on listening to the audiobook again before reading Hell Bent. I might be a tiny bit obsessed... 😝 Reading Siege and Storn at the moment, which is nice, but not as intense and captivating as Ninth House was. Just one more day!...😅

      @Singing Sanja Haha, I can understand the obsession!! I've only just read Ninth House, but once it got going, I found myself reading 2 hours straight easily 😂 I'm crazy curious about what will happen!!

    Your premise sounds amazing! Thanks so much for another great video. I especially like the idea of focusing first on scenes before changing things into chapters. That resonated with me.

      I know!! I'm pumped for this series! it's going to be so much fun to write :)
      And I'm happy you found some of Leigh's advice useful. Thanks again for watching!

    This video was amazing. Never thought of using podcasts as inspiration, but it is such a good idea. I think most people struggle with the things you described in the video. Seeing how you tried to use anothers authors routine is really refreshing. Sometimes current routine isn't working. So yeah, why not use someone elses routine for a day?

      For sure, I've never really done used podcasts this way until recently, but just learning in general can give you some awesome ideas. Especially if you're already in the mindset of thinking about your writing!
      Usually, I'm not too big on changing my routine, but researching Leigh was interesting and I found some useful practices along the way. I'm happy you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!!

    That last quote is really good and hits me in the feels as sometimes I feel like I do kinda want to avoid the pain through knowing a lot about the process.

      Right! I rewatched that part of my own video like 5 times 😂
      I think falling back into learning is a natural response, it is somewhat productive so you can rationalize it as acceptable.

      Seems like Brandon Sanderson IS sure that he's good at writing, and it's NOT a pain for him. All sorts of obvious food for thought there....

    • @john_writing_
      @john_writing_  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mia Van Meter It's an interesting consideration, although I'd be curious what you meant specifically so I'm not guessing at a response.

    • @feelswriter

      Right that was sloppy of me, and it's not obvious at all! I was thinking that, as he explains the story of fantasy that he loves became more and more popular right along with him. Also, he describes knowing the ultimate climax of 13 or so series... So if one is solid in their subgenre, and has a target to shoot for, maybe it's not scary...

      I think Brandon has a great mindset toward the whole thing and is experienced enough to have accepted that not everyone will like what he does, but many people will. He's just trying to write the stories he wants to read.
      Either way, he's been in this writing game for longer than many people (including Leigh), so it only makes sense he'd have a very mature mindset toward the whole thing. I think the quote by Leigh resonates with people who don't have quite as much experience as him.

    Einaudi is amazing for writing! 😍 I have several of his albums - gonna check if DNA is among them, LOL!
    PS: He is pronounced Ludoviko. 😉

    • @john_writing_
      @john_writing_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He is! DNA is part of Una Matina
      Also, now I officially have been pronouncing both of his names incorrectly 😂

    Holy Moly | I worked with Dan Carlson on a TV commercial for Campbells Soup in Canada. Dan loves the Campbells vegetable. Lol.
    He’s a smart and nice guy. Not as serious as the character he plays on the podcast.

      Are we talking about the same person, Dan Carlin?

      @warmflash ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@john_writing_I got his last name wrong. Yes. The same Dan Carlin as Hardcore History.

      Oh, that's awesome! Dan seems like a pretty chill sort of guy from his podcast, although he researches like mad 😂

    I serenade my muse. I was joking with a friend who claimed her muse was a drunken butterfly and i said mine was a kinky bat. So when I want to call on the muse i sing. "Bat bat come under my hat and I'll give you a slice of bacon and when I bake I'll bake you a cake if i am not mistaken."

      haha, I was inspired to include it by a vlog I saw maybe 9 months ago, not sure if it's the right choice for my style of video though 😂
