And the Boeing site says the exact opposite with, Lower operating costs. (www.boeing.com/commercial/787/) Not to mention, the 787-9 is probably more efficient than the A350-900, simply as it's a smaller, lighter aircraft

James Skilton yea but the 747-8 is way too expensive to operate due to it 4 engines, just to maintain the plane itself it way too expensive, that why Air New Zealand only use a Twin engine Aircraft. cos is less expensive on maintenance and a 777 and 787 can do a lot more than the 747 or a380. with a less cost. 👌
Just done Toronto - London on Air Canada 787-9 Dreamliner. Most uncomfortable long haul trip I've ever done. To begin with we had a brand new aircraft which proved not to be airworthy so had to disembark and wait for another. Seat 30C is an excuse for seat, no room, sticks out into the isle and adjacent to toilet door. Could hear every noise that came from there. Asked to be moved and again no room whatsoever. Arrived at LHR with stiff neck and pins and needles in both legs. Not a fan of a Dreamliner.
Good luck finding a positive review of a 787 economy class on carriers using a 3x3x3 seating configuration. A few use 2x4x2 and you will find some positive reviews on those but after reading so many negative reviews on 3x3x3 787's it's a plane I avoid at all costs.
What sort of person designed this business class layout? they certainly lack imagination? why would you have seats backing to the windows? and no privacy? Take a look a some reviews. Would I travel with Air NZ business class! no thank you!
I think the 787 has proved that aj news doco wrong in so many ways. I was agreeing with you but flew the dreamliner last year. What a beautiful aircraft.
I strongly dislike the 787. It looks terrible in the cabin, and the cockpit windows and engines look incredibly ugly. Air NZ should wise up and think about logistics and practicality. The 787 may look nice to them, but the truth is that it is a structurally deficient aircraft that has has had battery issues, It doesnt have a big capacity, and is extremely uncomfortable. Trust me, I have flown in one :( . 2 engines simply dont offer as much comfort, where as 4 engines mean a smoother journey. Take the 747, for instance. Fantastic airplane, aesthetically appealing, comfortable, recognizable and can fit more people. I am still furious at Air New Zealand for retiring 747-400s without looking at the service and contribution that they can bring. Air New Zealand should know better. The have been in the industry for 76 years (approx). Come on Air NZ, you replaced DC-10s with 747-200s back in 1981, so obviously you were thinking logically back then. The very least you could do is purchase some 747-8s. You have been vocally concerned about fuel efficiency and cost of oil. The 747-8 has been proven as the third most fuel efficient aircraft in the world, only behind the A350 and obviously your pathetic little baby, the 787. And besides, the -8 is a recognizable, comfortable aircraft. If I could have a answer to this comment from Air New Zealand it would be much appreciated.

First off, I have flown on both a 747-8 and a 787-9, to me they both felt very similar, I hardly noticed a recognizable difference other than the fact that the 787 has bigger windows and the 747 had slightly more legroom, but it's not noticeable. I don't know what your complaining about, there's nothing wrong with the 787 other than the few battery issues they had LIKE A FUCKING YEAR AGO. Another thing I don't understand is why you hate the way the 787 looks, everybody has different tastes but seriously, what's wrong with the way the 787.
