I'm just so happy one of the books I sent you ended up on this list. Thirteen Storeys is phenomenal and so special. I don't even see Magnus Archives fans talk about it when it's by the same guy, criminally underrated
Although the AUTHOR is hyped (T. Kingfisher), no one ever talks about The Twisted Ones which is my favorite book by them. It’s a folk horror. “At Home With The Horrors: 14 Chilling Tales” by Sammy Scott. “Dead Silence” is great. people give shit to “The Return” by Rachel Harrison but I gave it 5 stars lol. “Parasite” By Darcy Coates.
People don't like the return?? I loooooved that book!! I thought it was a perfect balance of horror and light heartedness, and the underlying story about their relationship and everything UGH I need to read more of her stuff!
They translated Blackwater for the first time ever to spanish, and oh my you need to see the spanish editions! they're GORGEOUS!! I usually read in english if that's the original language for the book, but this time I'm buying the spanish editions (they separated them in the original parts so they're 6 of them) just because of how amazingly beautiful they are!
Jordaline I’m completely insane and after whichever last video it was that you recommended Michael McDowell in I became obsessed with buying all of his books in the original mass market paper backs AND a $200 illustrated edition of Blackwater … I haven’t read a single book by him yet 🖤
Love Michael McDowell. His books are definitely underrated. Old Country is such a good book! I went into that book completely blind and was not expecting that! Jonathan Sims has a podcast called athe Magnus Archives - so good!
I read no one gets out alive per your recommendation and that book took me on a RIDE I think about that book every single day and still don’t know how to wrap my head around how I felt about it.
Your videos are so relaxing, which is funny because you are describing horror books :D You have a great ASMR voice too. Thank you for bringing us great book recommendations as well as great videos!
Just found you yesterday and i've already become obsessed with your book recs and how you describe everything alsooooo just put in a huge amazon order for al these books..
I loved Old Country so much. I live on a farm so that made it even scarier for me. Also- I recently saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Michael McDowell got a credit, I actually yelled when I saw it!
The old rock musician Greg Kihn turned out to be a HELL of a cross-genre author. His debut novel HORROR SHOW has fictional avatars of Ed WOod, ANton LaVey, Vampira, etc and is absolutely amazing. This - "When Monster Magazine reported Clint Stockbern sets out to interview the legendary fifties horror movie director Landis Woodley, he finds a reclusive, forgotten, and bitter old man. Worming his way through the door of the Scotch-drinking, cigar-smoking filmmaker's home, Stockbern finds a treasure trove of B-movie memorabilia. Playing to the movie genius's ego, Stockbern does his best to dig up a few good anecdotes from the past--but what he uncovers is a story of real-life horror! Flashback to 1957 Hollywood, where Landi Woodley is getting ready to shoot his latest movie, Cadaver, set in a real-life L.A. morgue. He is also bent on throwing the ultimate Halloween party. Attendee will include Lucifer-obsessed anthropologist Albert Beaumond and Devila, the celebrated TV horrow-show hostess. Even Satan himself may put in an appearance. And when cheap special effects are replaced by real corpses, a deadly curse may windup taking its toll on all these foolish enough to become involved with the filming of the cult movie classic, Cadaver." Run. Don't walk. And there are more books in the series, and they are all great. And I dont do franchise series reading.
I always laugh so much at your jokes. I can't even. I just added all of those to Goodreads tbr. Already read Spite House and it was good. I need to re-read that one. Have you read Out There Screaming? Great short story collection, many of them are speculative horror. My fav horror book is And Then She Fell. It only has 1900 ratings on GR...I can't stop thinking about it.
All sound good. Old country has me curious right now Slimer too. ❤ Ive been watching you like all day for weeks Jordaline. You are so chill and i love mostly all horror so you are perfect. The Jeremy bits 😂 and all the slices of your life. Just have to keep telling you i love you so much. Thank you for posting and being one of the funniest and low key coolest girls on here.
My bestie’s name is Emily and I gave her the nickname Millie after I read The Spite House! Also read Suffer The Children from your recommendation and it was FANTASTIC.
Ah! Thank you for the reminder to read Larry. It's one I kept forgetting. And yes, where the heck are the people reading Old Country? No one I know read it and I loved it. The scarecrows were just, like, woah. Anyway, happy to hear someone finally mention it!
I’ve read many of these and as usual, I agree with your thoughts on them 😉 Therefore, I just came back from my local bookstore with “Old Country” and “The Spite House” because the queen mentioned them and I hadn’t read them 🫢 what! 🤯 Added to the TBR and I look forward to them. Thanks 🤘🏼
I just found you, and I am obsessed with you… You’ve got me back into reading by the way! So thank you lol I’ve read Stolen Tongue’s recently because of you!
Thank you for this! Every listicle video I see like this usually has the same books on it. I hadn’t heard of any of these and just added them all to my TBR.
This is the first video of yours that I saw and I am so glad I did, because I know I'm going to love your channel. I got so many good recs from this. And I guess my name is Tiffany now, but I'm okay with that, actually
You make me laugh in EVERY video...and I love it. Thank you! Also could you maybe do another horror/romance recommendation? I have such a hard time finding actual good books in this genre that aren't total smut or trash😅 maybe they just don't exist? Idk change my mind pleeeeease 🖤🖤
Old Country is one of my favorite books of all time! I read Suffer The Children because of you, loved it! I got The Spite House in my Nightworms package, and I loved that, too. I'm definitely going to check out Crossroads and Victor Lavalle! That's why you're my favorite though, you're always reading different books instead of what everyone else is reading, and I discover more books through your channel ❤
I was curious about Old Country and almost bought it recently. Thank you for sharing that, I might have to pick that up after my book buying ban... I did buy The Spite House recently too!
Crossroads made me cry TWICE. Now reading Laurel Hightower's new book Day of the Door ~ This is my 3rd book of hers. Crossroads and Below were both 5/5 for me
Thank you for talking about The Devil in Silver! Gahhhh - I loved it so much. It was my #1 book I read last year and no one ever talks about it. It needs more love and attention.
I'm new to the channel and I RAN to Amazon and bought Old Country. I'm very excited to read it. Now I'm watching your older videos because you freaking crack me up. Thank you for the much needed laughs, my friend....I mean..."mi familia"...😂
One of my favorite books of all time is White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi and I NEVER see anyone talk about it. It's more literary horror I think and will probably be a love it or hate it kinda book for most people.
I'm so glad to see a Samantha Kolesnik recommendation, I've loved every book of hers that I've read, she's fantastic. I recently read Lonesome Haunts and picked up her YA sapphic dystopia, Elongona.
Omg LISTENING is brilliant... Thank you for the promo! My 100% audiobook reader husband just went back to school this app is going to make his life 10x easier!
I thought the Neville was good in terms of atmosphere and ideas, but a bit too light on plot… I've got "slimer" in my crypt, unread (yet !), I liked HAK's "Carnosaur" which also had some dark comedy in there. My favorite underrated gem is "Naomi's Room" by Jonathan Aycliffe.
Blackwater was great but I loved “The Elementals”, also by Michael McDowell, way better. I read Blackwater because I was desperate for more from this author. Just an opinion.
I need you to read some of these books bit not like audiobook sort of way like in your just describing everything that is happing page to page. I would pay for that edition
Ill be adding a lot of books again in my tbr. But hey Fungus by Harry Adam Knight will be a great read - gives the Last of Us vibes though it is written in the 80s.
The way you talk about books makes me so excited to read! I’m going to have to add these to my TBR 🖤
2 videos in 4 days!? Is she a booktuber?
Yes now she is
I didn't even get to book #2 before I placed an order for Nyctophobia lol. I love a good creepy house.
I'm just so happy one of the books I sent you ended up on this list. Thirteen Storeys is phenomenal and so special. I don't even see Magnus Archives fans talk about it when it's by the same guy, criminally underrated

The return was actually really good. It gave me nightmares after reading
@@JenMcLovin6661 I really loved it!
People don't like the return?? I loooooved that book!! I thought it was a perfect balance of horror and light heartedness, and the underlying story about their relationship and everything UGH I need to read more of her stuff!
@@RandomnessGlows20 I agree! But I have seen multiple TH-cam videos where people rate it poorly.
my tbr didn't need this but my soul did. can't wait to check some of these out.
I was checking, and now it's in 6 parts also in English with the same covers as the Spanish edition 😊 I plan to buy those.
Jordaline I’m completely insane and after whichever last video it was that you recommended Michael McDowell in I became obsessed with buying all of his books in the original mass market paper backs AND a $200 illustrated edition of Blackwater … I haven’t read a single book by him yet 🖤
Suffer the Children was so good! I was crying, gagging, and gasping the whole time.
Old Country is genuinely scary. That was such a good rec from you. A total 5 star book. My co-workers also gave it 5 stars.
I feel like we became best friends when you called me a pumpkin pie b**** f***
Love Michael McDowell. His books are definitely underrated. Old Country is such a good book! I went into that book completely blind and was not expecting that! Jonathan Sims has a podcast called athe Magnus Archives - so good!

Loved Old Country! I agree, nobody talks about it at all.
Right? At least now they have an Netflix deal!! Can't wait to watch it 😍 I LOVE old country
I LOVE your blush! It reminds me of when I was a teenager in the 80s. We had so much fun with makeup, color, COLOR everywhere! ❤
I loved Old Country so much. I live on a farm so that made it even scarier for me.

Blackwater is INCREDIBILE - I read it while in holiday in Vietnam and it was absolutely amazing. It will stay with me for a very long time
Blackwater.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I wanted this book to go on for another 800 pages. I want to resurrect Michael McDowell so he can write more.

Great recommendations, but also, that LOOK! I love the bold makeup.
This video was awesome, I def bought a couple of the books you recommended.
OLD COUNTRY IS SO GOOD 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
I tried to read No One Gets Out Alive because you've talked about it quite a bit but I thought the first third was so boring that I DNF'd it.
I just finished my 1st JB Arnold book- The Streets of Floria. I loved it! And the cover ❤!!!
This….may be the fastest I’ve ever subscribed to a channel on TH-cam…like 35 seconds.
A soldier of Love for No One Gets Out Alive ready to serve!! 🫡 One of my best reads of 2023. One of the best and most terrifying horror I've read ever
Love this, did I need more books on my tbr? No, but its happening 😅
The question is.. why don’t you have 1million followers?!?! ❤❤❤

Showing us a slice of your life is great
Blackwater was great but I loved “The Elementals”, also by Michael McDowell, way better. I read Blackwater because I was desperate for more from this author. Just an opinion.
The book I feel like is so underhyped is the last guests by J.P Pomare I haven’t heard ANYONE talk about it but it’s my favorite book!
The first half of “No one Gets Out Alive” was amazing… The second half was “meh” to me! Also, “The Waif” was off the rails for sure!! 😮
I need you to read some of these books bit not like audiobook sort of way like in your just describing everything that is happing page to page. I would pay for that edition
