@@ericbest9562 I have no problem with 4 door cars, but they have to be American. I wouldn't be caught dead with a 4 door truck. They are only good for the crusher.

100% agree. There's too much fun to be had with a reliable "old car". I did a 64 Chevy II 4 door in the late 90s. Rebilt the 230, left the powerglide and drums on it and drove it every day. An outfit named Kanter Auto Parts sold kits mail order (remember that) a complete front end kit and a brake kit and it was good to go. $1500 total spent, 10 years and 70k miles of fun.
Yeah. A lot of folks who are mechanics are more impressed at ppl who can keep those old motors running. I had a 63 Savoy with a clean slant six and it always got ppl's attention.
A good running straight 6 will take you anywhere you want to go. We had a Biscayne my parents bought new in 67 was still running strong in the 80s till it got rear-ended. My mom sold it for 80 bucks to a guy who made a hunting buggy out of it for all I know it might still be out there.

😀👍🏽👍🏻 in New Zealand we like 4 door's old school car's, and some look really good with deep dish mag's, used to be 14 to 15 inch wheels, but later it's 17 inch wheels with 50-55 profile tyres which I prefer, which look good to me on old classic car's 😀👍🏽

I grabbed my 76 Sedan DeVille two years ago for $3200. Runs great. Paint is shot but she's 500 powered with flawless chrome and turns heads constantly. Battleship Hotrod. As for buying out of town, 1000% agree! The caddy was almost literally in my back yard. However, I just bought a big block Chevy pickup for $1400 that was an hour and a half into banjo country. No rust, blue on blue, excellent interior, extended cab with overdrive and a 454. Drove it home flawlessly.
These are the cars I keep telling folks are the ones to get for cheap thrills. Not everything has to be a 65-70 2 door or whatever. 4 door cars, base model 2wd trucks, mid-late 70s cars. All out there in the countryside for dirt cheap. You just have to be motivated to get them.
If you want those, you better get them quick, before the price skyrockets. Because REAL cars are no longer made, and never will be again, pretty much anything with a carburetor and no computer is going to cost a fortune. Right now, at least in the U.S., older 2 wheel drive Ford trucks, especially '70s models, are probably the best deal out there. But they won't be for long. And these trucks have the highly desirable virtually bulletproof Twin-I-Beam front suspension. NO camber and caster issues. And the long beds can be converted to short beds for less than you might think. The 1973-1987 square body Chevy/GMC trucks cost quite a bit more. Everybody wants those.
@@geraldscott4302 Eh, the good deals I'm talking about aren't the vehicles you see for sale Online or whatever. It's the ones tucked away in backyards, older folks who don't even know their junk is desirable. I've actually bought a 78 and 79 Ford truck in the last 2 years. Both were $1000. Neither were for sale before I stopped and asked about them.
One of the most fun cars I’ve had was my 70 Impala 4 door hoopty lowrider on air ride. So much fun! I also had a 67 Biscayne 427 4 speed I bought at an estate sale cheap 25 years ago. Had it for about 5-6 months and sold it for $15k many times what I paid for it. The same car showed up for sale last year and went for $120k 🤦♂️ If the 2door post conversion is possible go for it. There’s nothing tougher than a 2 dr post , big block, Biscayne. Even if it stays 4 door doing a big block with a 4 speed and keeping the bench seat interior would be cool AF
Damn straight bro. years ago at Bathurst race in Australia a straight 6 3.3 ltr GM Holden KICKED a 351 ford v8 ass all the way to the finish line. They called the car the Giant Killer. Great history..
Having a straight 6 is awesome until you need parts for it. Recently I went to the local parts store and told the young man I need points plugs and condenser for a 73 F100 with a 300 straight 6. He just kind of looked at me like a cow staring at a new gate. I did get my parts the next day.
It's a parts avaliblity thing. 350s are slut motors there all over the place and easy access of parts. Nothing wrong with 6s. Just harder to find parts
Well I’ll tell you a few things wrong, doesn’t make much power, doesn’t sound as good as a 350, and not nearly as much aftermarket support. No reason for me to keep the straight 6 unless I’m daily driving the car or keeping it original
The good thing about these big old 4 doors. Ease of access! Since many of us in the hobby have passed our skinny nimble spring rooster years, the open rear portal and the shorter front doors make entry and exit a whole lot easier than those long wide two doors. There is a reason new 2 door family cars no longer exist.
Looking forward to the Biscayne restoration, Dan. I'd like to see the engine cleaned up and rebuilt. That's a pretty solid engine and you can get a lot of power out of it just by adding double y headers, an Offenhouser aluminum intake, 4 barrel carb and an MSD ignition. You could maybe pull the head and clean up the valves, add hardened seats, new springs and rockers?- Balance the crank and pistons, etc. The body is pretty clean and you can handle welding new patch panels. A floor shifter would look nice, steering wheel and a dash pad. Take the hydraulic system out of the 47 and put it on the Biscayne, too, would look cool-a very nice low-rider! Can't wait to see this. Take care!
In the early '80s I owned a '66 BelAir with a three on the tree.Threw some shag carpeting and a nice sound system in it and had a blast! Keep the stock drivetrain and make it safe. Paint it in black Tremclad, throw some chromies on it and have a 'Supernatural' clone.
Yuppers another great video Dan. I appreciate you schooling the younger gen on hotrodding. I remember buying all jacked up on 50a an 60s for $250 to $500 all day. My first hotrod was 66 Chevy Impala SS 4 speed that had a 327 Vette motor transplant for $450 an drove it home with the ole screwdriver transfer method. Lol Like you said...you can't touch true 2door hotrods in rebuildable shape for less than $3500 if you're lucky, an I mean...if your lucky!!! Keep up the great work Dan! Totally love the Channel! Keep On Motoring Brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Don't get in over your head because then it becomes "unfun"! Great advice, I failed a few times selling cars that I realized I didn't have the resources to do when I was a teenager, but became very discerning recently when I decided to semi restore a truck my buddy was selling. I had the time to really look at what I was buying in depth before I put my cash down.
Literally couldn't have said it better myself. Everything you listed: out of town, know your skills, off brands, everything working, solid car, etc. is what I got in the Meteor. I learned my lesson the hard way with the first project, and I really hope any young guys or gals looking to get into classics really listen to what you say in this video. Would have saved me lots of time and money if I'd bought my first project along your guidelines. People, these old cars are out there, and they need saving! The original "hot rods" weren't "cool" to start, but it was the work the old timers did to them that made them into hot rods. Clock is ticking.
I'd vote to get it all prepped for a safety, and send it down the road. Great entry point for a new enthusiast, and let them make it "their" hot rod. We all know if you 2 door/big block swap it, you won't want to sell it. I know I wouldn't!
I’m not a big straight 6 fan, but I do like the idea of the two door modification, especially in light of how well it turned out before on the tri five you swapped over. Cheers!
Do something REALLY different with it and make it a 3 door, a 2 door sedan on the driver's side and leave the 4 door sedan on the drinker's side. Steelies and dog dishes required, no trim rings. Then put a T5 behind that 6 banger and have fun with it. I'd give my left lugnut for something like that!
16 yrs ago we put our '63 Laurentian 4door on the road. 283 with a glide, Mexican blanket interior, new dual exhaust, black steel rims with chrome lugs and beauty rings, painted the roof white and had fun. Back then alot of people stuck their noses up in the air but we loved it. And that was what we could afford
1957-1958 Studebaker Champions/Scotsmans are great old cars that make cool hot rods and are still cheap when you can find them. I daily a 58 Scotsman 2 door sedan, fun car to drive 3 on the tree flathead inline 6
my 55 Chevy hot rod is a 4 door and when you tell someone you have a one the first thing they say is "is it a 2 door?" when I drive it and see the dash and hood all I see is 55 CHEVY
Thanks! Dan, its a great car, I had one that my mother had bought and then the lever for shifting made noise so she never drove it and just gave it to me because she wanted it out of sight. What was wrong with that lever is... It had the third pedal... a standard three on the tree with a 283 engine. I never did a lot, just exhausts and better brakes... an alignment to make it steer right and get the wheel clocked. Free! Those don't exist as far as I know anymore.. but I watch a channel "adventures made from scratch".. fellow has a crusher and saves a few but mostly cuts the nose off and sells for wall art. It hurts to see cars from Kansas get cut up because its old. The guy is trying to be cool but can't really figure out what is what in a pile of great parts... like a muncie four speed that was missing the output shaft, went into the scrap... thats just wrong. I am looking forward to this one and wish you could do a compound turbo on a six...that motor will pull five hundred horsepower!!!!!
My brother bought a 1966 four door Biscayne back around 1970 or so. It was the car that started my love affair with the Bow Tie cars. It was special ordered by a doctor and he bought it as a trade in from a dealership. What was under the hood made it special. A 375hp 396 with a TH400 and posi rear end. The car screamed! He took off the 396 badges and replaced them with 283 emblems, and then went on to win a lot of street races. I still have one of the 396 emblems.
I had a 66 Bel Aire 4 door HDTP, Original Ermine White with ox blood interior put an old pair of Daisies on it as well had a blast with that Crew Cab. Picked it up to have something to drive while building the next, love big Chevys It ended up in New Zealand
Thanks Dan, hotrodding can be affordable with a creative mind but it's really getting hard to find something that won't be a money pit. Tub it out and drop a truck 454 into it. (pro-street)
2 cents: Keep the six, enjoy the six, build a V8 drivetrain to have on 'standby', because eventually either you or the six will get tired. Then swap in the V8 drivetrain over a weekend.
A 2 door conversion, eh? Looking forward to it! Kijiji dont lie! Theres a 57 in town for sale. Too much money as usual. I still think gearing it like a tractor for holeshot would be the most fun you could have with clothes on.
Great video Dan. Since the rear doors don't open from the outside, maybe you should consider removing the handles and welding the holes shut. Call it the "Optical 4 door to 2 door conversion"
2 door conversation would quadruple the value for sure but I always liked 4 doors so that is up to you if you leave the 6 in put a turbo on it 👍 boosted lifestyle would help you out with that I'm sure 😉 if not just drop a LS in it and keep it stock with a quiet exhaust
Grandma had a 66 Chevelle 2 dr sedan 300 model. It's mine now and I pulled the 194 six and Powerglide first thing. Now it has a 427 Rat .040" over bored with forged TRW pistons, Eagle rods, Comp Cams hydraulic lifter cam etc. 750 Holley carb, Hooker headers, Muncie M-20 four speed. Still waiting to install all new front suspension with power disc brakes and a 9 inch rear with posi carrier and 3:91 gears. I have new 5 spoke mags from Jegs with TA radials. Go big block Dan! Smiles per gallon is most important.
Times change, I remember when 4 doors (and wagons) no matter how mint, were considered parts cars and not worth spending a nickle on. But, cool tin is becoming scarce and when you find it, big bucks. Try to find a remotely affordable '61 bubbletop or 66-67 Nova sport coupe project..ain't happening.. I'd like to see a 2 door conversion on the old biscayne, but I wonder how hard it would be to find a set of coupe doors?
4 doors were drinking cars or parts chasers back when. I used to take a verbal beating for driving a 64 Plymouth Fury wagon, even though it was the tow car for my race car. I can't see me building a 4 door but they can make good fixer up for fun transportation.
Great video! Short and to the point. Please dont convert it into a two door - four doors are cool too. And rarer. Ive got a 65 Biscuit and on the west coast (BC) and you’re right - it gets lots of thumbs up!
I like that year of Biscayne. Seen em all my life and this one is nice. 65 Parisienne is a beauty as well. Same drive trains. Old Canadian Ponches have Chevy frames and drive trains.
I agree, give Mur the Biscayne. The value of the fun he would have dialing her back in and the joy he would have of reminding the world how great the simplest Chevy is would far exceed any value the channel will get from that old girl. I wish i could give my Dad the '50 Chevy sport coupe we never got started. Mur wants the car as is, let him have it i say
The one thing I always push when people ask me about getting into the hobby is that you do not need huge horsepower or expensive parts to have something that you enjoy and is fun to drive. I get just as many thumbs up or “hey, cool car” shouted at me driving down the road with my /6 mirada as I did in my big block charger or my 78 dodge dually. As you said, these days any old car on the road is cool. Also greetings from Alberta.
What would I do? I like old cars, I’m 75. I would go to a Tremec 5 speed, or, at least a Turbo 350 with a lock-up converter, power brakes, disc up front, Fenton dual exhaust manifolds with two pipes right to the back, perhaps a two barrel carburetor, rear door outside handle delete, pound out the dents, repair rust damage, polish the paint and drive it. Enjoy.
20 years ago I would have said keep the six bagger. But finding parts for a 6 cylinder can be a little spotty these days. So I don't think anyone would fault you for dropping in an LS. As far as the two-door four-door thing goes that argument's been around forever two door cooler for sure but you can't deny the convenience of four doors.
Ha ha..."the angel hasn't even showed up yet". Dude I love your style and your channel! BTW: you're onto something with the BBC. Nothing as beautiful as a big ass heavy boat leaving with a bit of sky under a tire.
A nice thing is that these older cars have points/condenser type ignition. No computer chips. Carburetor, mechanical fuel pump, easy to work on. Nice car.
I'd like to see more daily driver builds , a small street turbo and junkyard fuel injection. Uncle Tony is doing a turbo slant 6 4 door you guys can battle it out 🤣
One of the things that make these cars attractive is the base models were decanted on chrome trim. If you have noticed, it’s a thing people do with old cars. They remove the “extra” trim for a cleaner look. So the base cars have the more modern cool look.
Great car. A lot of these get looked past because it's a 4 door. They are usually the ones that haven't been beaten to death, like this example you have. And the price is right. Cheers!
The nice thing with a more door is it's a family man's cruiser. Can be done on a budget (like you will display I'm quite sure) and you can throw the family in to go out for ice cream. The best part, quality family time and fond childhood memories (how's that for a cranky old guy)! 😆
I take my rusty 4 door Valiant to cruise nights and it’s always popular. Bought it for $1500 last year, I had sat for 40 years and it drove onto the trailer. I’m the 2nd registered owner and the 3rd actually owner.
I love the four door impalas, I have a four door impalas hardtop. Just like you said not a lot of people look at four doors and think of a muscle car. But with the right stance you can make anything look good.
I know a few guys from down in the states who can get body panels and hard to find things parts off doner cars. Let me know if you need anything. I might even have it as well

Great content. Keep the 6 banger.....
The same car showed up for sale last year and went for $120k 🤦♂️
If the 2door post conversion is possible go for it. There’s nothing tougher than a 2 dr post , big block, Biscayne. Even if it stays 4 door doing a big block with a 4 speed and keeping the bench seat interior would be cool AF
Dan I'm an older dude and my passion is the full body late 50s early 60s gm cars especially Buicks, Cadillacs and Olds!
Praise the LOWERED😎🤟
Nothing wrong with a 6. I always hate how everyone seems to just yank, 'em and drop a 350 in.
Or an LS... 😆
No reason for me to keep the straight 6 unless I’m daily driving the car or keeping it original
love the sound the doors made when you shut them without slammin.
Love to see this cut and buffed. I bet it turns out nice. Great video Dan!!
Say it like it is Dan. Thanks for the up to date info on the hot rod scene and real world prices.
keep the great work man hope you have a great day
The good thing about these big old 4 doors. Ease of access! Since many of us in the hobby have passed our skinny nimble spring rooster years, the open rear portal and the shorter front doors make entry and exit a whole lot easier than those long wide two doors. There is a reason new 2 door family cars no longer exist.
Make it a 2-door Dan.
Take care!
Rings, bearings, an HEI and a Comp Cams 260 is all it needs.
Or he could just drop a sbc in it.
Keep the 6! Makes it more unique
4 doors are beautiful too. The rarer they get the more popular they are. People love my 4 door 57 210 model.
You picked a great example of what can be found, that will make a great ride!
I've been holding on to my 68 belair. Finally start getting it apart..glad u pick this up so I can follow
My nephew and I are doing a 1967 4 door chevelle Malibu. Same color interior. 283 4 barrel with 2spd power glide, power steering….runs super!
I don't know what you should do but it's a nice car the way it is
Yuppers another great video Dan.
I vote to turn the 1966 Chevrolet Biscayne into a 2-door post with a big block boat motor!! Lol!! Cheers!! 😎
I think your right old cars can be 4doors n still cool people just like seeing old cars cruising keep up the great work another survives n on the road
You are 1000% spot on Dan !
Great video Dan! It's so important to get the young kids into the old car hobby. Get something old fix it up and make it cool. Later man ✌
DD speed shop?
Compound turbo, on a 6 banger. Now you are just talking about a silly waste of money. Lol
Wise words Dan ….now put some side pipes and flames on it 🤣 …what …I like that stuff 😜👍
I like the idea of a 2 door conversion but just use small block - keep it a decent simple cruiser.
I’ve ran 5.13’s on the street, it’s fun for sure. 😁👌
I'd leave it as a 4 door, LS, nice interior, tinted windows, lightly lowered.
Absolute dream to cruise.
A hack job 2 door conversion isnt gonna be worth more than a stock 4 door
Nice find brother 😎👍
Sweet golden goodness in one place keep up the good work love y'all shows
Times change, I remember when 4 doors (and wagons) no matter how mint, were considered parts cars and not worth spending a nickle on.
I'd rather have that Biscayne than an Impala SS. Great family cruiser.
Wow! The best content on you tube!!!
Loved my old '67 4 door Chevelle 6cyl 2spd. "SABOTAGE" Rolling gangster with too many passengers. 🤣 Good times 👌
Glad you told them on the 4 doors.i just picked up 68 caprice 4 door and have a 69 396 impala 4 door hardtop too.
I’m amazed at myself all the time with the cars I now think are cool. A lot can be done with a little if it’s the right project.
Enjoy.
I have a 1958 four door Delray came from West Virginia no rust at all like new underneath small block 350 love the car
I just recently sold my 67 four door
Ford Galaxie 500 can’t wait to see the build
Love the stock drive train…fancy it up a bit with wheels tires, and drive it. Great video
The Biscayne is cool you can load up your friends and cruise you don’t need 500 horse to have fun
Cool old cruiser, good old mafia car, at least 3 bodies could fit in that trunk! Lol
Clifford 4 barrel intake n split long tube header with small dual exhaust. Then run it like a 15 year old. Keep up the cool projects!
I used to watch roadkill when it was up on YT, however I refuse to pay for yet another streaming service for one series.
Ha ha..."the angel hasn't even showed up yet". Dude I love your style and your channel!
BTW: you're onto something with the BBC. Nothing as beautiful as a big ass heavy boat leaving with a bit of sky under a tire.
He speaks the truth. Those 4 doors are the barn finds of the 2020's. You could easily flip these and get yourself that 2 door you always wanted.
Instead of destroying another 4 door take that time and money and put it into the engine leaving it a beautiful original survivor 👏
I'm for that.
Any cars with a solid foundation is a good starter car project
A nice thing is that these older cars have points/condenser type ignition. No computer chips. Carburetor, mechanical fuel pump, easy to work on. Nice car.
Big block/ power glide!!!!…come one Dan you know you want to do it👌👌
I'd like to see more daily driver builds , a small street turbo and junkyard fuel injection. Uncle Tony is doing a turbo slant 6 4 door you guys can battle it out 🤣
Dan do it justice I'm doing a 1982 Buick Electra few more things and she's on the road!
Cheers!
agree with you mate, my problem is getting a trailer
The nice thing with a more door is it's a family man's cruiser. Can be done on a budget (like you will display I'm quite sure) and you can throw the family in to go out for ice cream. The best part, quality family time and fond childhood memories (how's that for a cranky old guy)! 😆
I take my rusty 4 door Valiant to cruise nights and it’s always popular. Bought it for $1500 last year, I had sat for 40 years and it drove onto the trailer. I’m the 2nd registered owner and the 3rd actually owner.
Had one like it in ‘81,wish I still had it. Built better and simpler than the junk built now.
Well said. The odd cars can be "Hot Rods " too!
I believe that beautiful hotrod roof line from a SS nova Chevelle even the Charger started with the 65 Impala.
I enjoy the content of this channel more and more! THAT is just a good video Dan.
