  • macmost.com/e-2477 If you have multiple displays, it is handy to be able to quickly move the current window to the other display. There is already a Menu Bar command for this. But with a little work, you can add a keyboard shortcut as well.

    Super useful ! I discovered that if you put the same key for both shortcuts it become a kind of "switch screen shortcut". This is because when your app is on one screen it has only one menu entry at a time.

    Great tip! Thank you - particularly like Adam's suggestion of using the same shortcut key so it works as a toggle. Especially as, and I have no idea why, in Safari - the option / command and right or left arrow keys move to the next / previous tab.

    Awesome! I already have cmd-option-left-arrow for switching to previous tab in a window, so I used cmd-option-dot for move to 'right' display (because shift-dot is a greater-than sign, similar to a right arrow). And cmd-option-comma is, similarly, for moving a window to the 'left' display.

    • @macmost

      Probably Photoshop is using custom menu items instead of the default ones. Examine the menu item titles carefully to see if you can modify this technique for Photoshop. The titles of the menu item and the titles of the keyboard shortcuts have to match exactly.

  • @utopia2112
    @utopia2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Legit. Thanks. It's odd that "Menu Title" is where you put the menu ACTION in. Seems unintuitive on Apple's part. Also, it would be rad if they allowed you to click on either a popup menu to populate that field (or multiple if needed in a more intuitive setup like I implied above). Perhaps best of all would be to allow you to select the menu and command directly from a menu in the background if a change of focus could be suspended for that purpose - sort of the way the Screenshot app allows you to click on stuff in the background without losing focus. I know the functionality is different but I just mention it as a point in how to make things easier for users - sort of like recording a macro. Thanks again.

  • @utopia2112
    @utopia2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oddly, not long after adding this macro, it stopped working consistently. I can't recall when I upgraded my OS to Monterey so I might have thought that was the culprit - but is wasn't. I had a dirty Option Key on my laptop keyboard and had used Option in the macro I made to send windows between screens. After cleaning it (see the many TH-cam videos on this topic), the macro again works properly. WHEW!

    Hi Gary,
    Is there any shortcut which enables you to toggle between MBP and the external Monitors?
    Basically I want to simply navigate between monitors using only the keyboard, not moving a window from here to there whatsoever, just navigate (I know, I can use the mouse to click on the desired monitor, but I don't want that)

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Using the keyboard to navigate doesn't care which screen something is on. Use the app switcher, window switcher, etc, to get to the window you want.

  • @minwookwon7529

    I actually suggest using command + control + direction
    This shortcut does not work on full screen windows, so you would need to "un-fullscreen" the window prior to using the shortcut.
    command control F is the default short cut for full screen toggle
    So with command control direction, you would be able to quickly remove the fullscreen, use the custom keyboard shortcut to move displays then re-toggle full screen on that same window whilst minimizing finger movements.
    Economy of motion!
