I did not know this place existed. Now I really want to see it. Joe Jackson is my favorite all-time player; his life and career just have fascinated me for years. Thank you for posting this for all of Joe's fans.
Great Video, i am a baseball fan and have been a fan of Joe's since childhood, when my grandfather (born 1887) would tell me stories of his days in the miner leagues of the old Cincinnati Reds, he never made it out of the bush leagues, but he loved baseball until the end of his life in 1980
YES IT IS A SHAME FOR WHAT HIS STATS IN THE WORLD SERIES PROVED HE PLAYED TO WIN AND NOT TAKE A BRIBE FOR MONEY TO THROW THE WORLD SERIES. WHAT YR. DID SHOELESS JOE JACKSON PLAY IN WORLD SERIES AT HIGHEST LEVEL OF PLAY TO WIN. ? YES HE DID!!!! HIS STATS FOR THE 1919 WORLD SERIES IS THE TRUTH HE DIDN'T GET INVOLVED IN THROWING THE SERIES TO LET CINCY REDS WIN.
Wish I would have seen this tour sooner!!!! I'm a huge fan of all the old time players, (Cobb,Mathewson,Young, etc) Thanks for the tour, and the book is excellent!!!!!
As a Sox fan, I never get tired of researching Joe Jackson. I wonder if there are family and friends still alive who may be able to share their recollections of Joe and his days in Greenville, for example, his mentoring of young baseball players during his late years. All information about him is drying out with the passing of time. Thank you.
As a sox fan I’m so sorry on how he was treated by comiskey and want him to be in the hall of fame and have a statue in comiskey park. I love him as a player and a great man.
Thanks for posting this. I am not a White Sox fan but thought it was really great. If I am ever in the area of this museum I will make sure to check it out.
I wrote that book, Shoeless Joe & Black Betsy. You can get it on line on Amazon or anywhere. As for the pics in the museum, I can't speak for those, except that they're pretty awesome.
Do you know the whereabouts of Black Betsy? And do you know if there are any interviews or anything where Joe's voice can be heard? He belongs in the HOF!
They were selling the old seats and the original bricks from Comiskey around the time it was demolished, that's probably where they obtained those articles. Many Sox/Comiskey fans in and around Chicago are proud owners of these relics of Baseball past; Me myself intended to buy a brick during that time, but I kept putting it off until there were nomore. One of my greatest regrets, I think they went for about 50 bucks then, don't quote me, but it was a very affordable price for such a valued piece of Chicago Soutthside/Sox and Baseball history. I'm still piss I blew a great opportunity to "own" a little part of my favorite ballpark. I think the original seats were painted red. Not for sure though. Joe Jackson for the Hall of Fame!
@@Jamestown-y9j you're right , well sort of .I saw different era color pictures of the ballpark (1950's -60's) and they were grey or something in the I field and some of the outfield seats were red. I think it was in the outfield upper deck past the 1st 10 rows
Makes me want to visit the museum, but the tour was a bit short. Are there any relics from his playing days? His uniform? His bat? Also, what are the references to the scandal? What's the museum's official position on the "black sox"?
thanks for posting but a little unimpressed with the museum. Just looks like any other house with pictures of Jackson everywhere. No actual Joe Jackson baseball memorabilia in the museum?? No bats, balls, no authentic uniforms or equipment just a chair and bricks from old Comisky Park which Joe never set in, and a door Ty Cobb went though once. Sorry, but if I would have paid for the tour I would be pissed.
You don’t pay for a tour. A volunteer docent gives a brief overview of Jackson’s life and the house itself. You are then free to explore the house (which is very small) on your own. The museum is entirely curated, cared for, and run by volunteers. They accept donations, but there’s no pressure to give. It’s truly a labor of love for the people involved. The lack of actual Jackson memorabilia is because he apparently kept very few things from his playing days. So, if that’s what you’re looking for, then yes, you’d be disappointed. But if you want an overall feel for Jackson’s life, to see some great photographs, and to actually be in the place where he lived and died, then it’s a satisfying experience. And when you’re done, you can walk across the street and see the Red Sox Class-A affiliate, the Greenville Drive, play ball!
His bats are in collections so are his uniforms and gloves I'm in Maryland we have a "Jimmy Foxx" exhibit and town hall and a plaque at his house that's it but we have a bat glove and Red Sox uniform

Holds the MLB record for rookies with the highest batting average for a season with .408

When they asked Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb who was the Greatest ball player and they all said Joe Jackson!

"Drying out"??

Love the museum..

Where's this museum at?
I don't think that original Comiskey Park seat was from his era. The seats were replaced around 1925-28. From loose folding to permanent folding.
I agree I've seen a real one at a collector's house he even has a original Fenway seat from 1912

You could see how the original park looked on eBay. At Comiskey Park photos and early white sox photos 1910 to 1930
I need to go to this

Put him in the Hall of Fame.
Holy crap does Phil look like Marty Feldman without Graves' disease.
I blame comiskey for the end of his career
The players of yesteryear had a quality about them that the players of today seem to lack.
It's time to undo the injustice the Kennesaw Mountain Landis did to Joe, LET JOE IN THE HOF!!!!!!!
@rockabillyrayhudson i think cooperstown
Really been interested in the scandal and Joe Jackson lately
He forgot the number the camera man whispered to him sup and peace Phil
REINSTATE SHOELESS JOE AND BUCK WEAVER, MLB!!! PLEASE PUT JOE IN THE HOF!!! What do we have to do???
I have been there and to his grave.
It was common for people to wed young . Probably to get girls wed before they became pregnant . Was common 100 yrs ago and before .
True. In my neighborhood, people bring their prospective brides to me... so I can 'break 'em in right.'
