That place was really huge! I have never heard of a mental hospital with basket ball courts, swimming pool, bowling alley, movie theater, just immense, a self contained city.
SutekhAeon Yes, exactly. Many of these old facilities were basically self-contained towns. I think some even had farms on the property to grow crops, wheat, fruits, veggies, milk from the cows, meat, etc. Other facilities even had cottages on the campus for the workers to live in, so even the employees would rarely ever leave.
All this without a single "Dude, something just touched my neck." or an "OMG I just seen a shadow move over there... you know that spot thats just outside my cam's field of vision and only I could of seen!" lol
I really dont know how you can go there by yourself and contain your fear... Once I found an abandoned building with a friend, in the middle of a huge field. We entered for some seconds and instantly feel scared, then we heard something that probably wasn't even from inside the house and ran like we were going to be killed XD you are really brave
Scary moments list: Your breathing ;.; First time filming inside, it's so dark and scary ;.; 08:53 WHAT WAS THAT SCREAM!? Oh no the underground part where the floor is flooded, so creepy ;.; 26:45 Poor bird.. XD 29:00 Cool theathre! 30:42 Old swimmingpool.. Nice. 25:31 WHAT'S THAT HOWLING!? Sounds like the wind but still.. So great video, cool facts, scary sh*t O.o
It's such a shame that all these historic buildings are in such decay and it seems punks with spray paint destroy everything they can. This place should have been preserved and perhaps turned into a museum. Great job with the footage and the information.
I don't see the value in turning old hospitals into museums. Would you really want our tax money to be spent on buildings like this to be maintained? I also hate seeing giant structures go to waste, but please keep in mind that the building is completely depreciated for tax purposes There would be millions invested in renovations to get it back to a business friendly facility.
What is sad to me is. When there is an empty building. people take it a pone them self's to wreck it. I have no clue why kids have to brake glass and to spray paint all over the place. It wrecks it for the people who want to see it the way it was when they shut it down. But it's rare to find a building that no one has wrecked buy busting up everything or painting everything. If they could learn to just look and leave it as it was then everyone can enjoy it. But that will never happen case for some reason kids think we care if they where there or not. I mean if the art work was decent then maybe but its all crap. Swears and gross stuff. That is not art its disrespectful to the building and the people who go in after theses punks. What ever happen to the days where people respect things. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it sad to look at a building an its all smashed and pained all over. What are they proving??? That they are big JERKS. And a lot of them can not even spell. So they should just go back to school and leave things alone.
Simply, "respect". Since their own parents probably didn't have enough respect for each other to work on their own marital problems they decided instead to solve issues with a baby and since that obviously never works the child had no one around to instill or follow examples of basic respect of people, property and the over all good sense to find something more to do with their time that didn't equal destruction. Better news, most of these same "adults" will soon, if not already, be able to vote. And that's great because, obviously, they strive for the better things in life.
OH I AM SO SORRY SCOTT. I can not be perfect like you. I know that you have NEVER made any mistakes in your life and you have never misspelled anything in your life ether. SO that makes you Jesus. Case if you can judge and put people down case they make a mistake in spelling then you must be making up for something you are missing. What are you a tiny little boy who has to be mean to make him self seem big. Say what you will but not many people find you funny. AND NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY. So I am sorry your majesty for the miss spellings. But I am not perfect I am a human being and the only one who is perfect and ever will be 100 % perfect is . NO its not YOU. Its the LORD OUR GOD AND YOU ARE NOT HIM.
I laughed way too hard when that bird smacked into the window. I feel bad, but I couldn't help it... just... 'thunk', 'plop'. Heh. I'm a terrible person.
21:16 "I am the snake guarding this tunnel! You can't go any further... oh wait, you have a stick? Don't push me to the side, or I won't be able to block your way anymore... aww, I have been defeated."

i hope all chances of walmart getting this land are blocked by the city of new york, sick of their commercials on tv every 2 seconds, such a horrible place to work for!!!!!
I could pull 2.75 million in scrap metal out of those buildings before it was ripe to be pulled(demoed). Looks like a serious ecological hazard as it stands. All I see in a lot of these walk throughs are RECYCLE ME signs everywhere lol
yeah i see this place a lot i also remember the fire back in 2007. This is such a creepy yet beautiful place but i hate all the graffiti everwhere. Great video i always wanted to see inside this place.
Im glad you guys are smart and wear mask's when urban exploring. Especially in places like this where lead paint is used. Once it starts to peel and deteriorate like in this video it can be quite dangerous. As just walking around will kick up the lead dust that has settled over the years. Great Video's. I wish you could get a grant or something to continue further exploration's on a more vast area. It really is amazing what's right in out backyard's :) Subbed for sure. Looking forward to the next one.
I worked in a similar facility for 30 years that is now in the process of being closed down. It was great seeing the advances in medication so patients could stay with their families and some on their on working being productive members of society. It brings back many memories looking at the video. Thanks for filming it.
So many of thease places were closed for being understaffed and over crowded, and with alot of people just taking the proper medication. Scary to think alot of patients were there for simple things like depression and anxiety...
I think that's really sad but what you said was true don't forget how in some of these places the patients were mistreated . That's what makes these places even more crazy . And all the other crazy shit that happens in these places.
Inachu Ikimasho The audio I got doesn't even do justice to how it sounded in person. I regret not checking it out, but it was too freaky at the time to take any chances.
Lexi Martinez .... It whistles a little when I breathe through the p100 filters on my respirator. That's the sound you are hearing, I promise you. You can hear it several times throughout this video and many others.
I love your videos. Most people talk all through their walk-thrus but you guys are silent for the most part, which gives the viewer the sense that they are their themselves in a way..I explored Byberry Hospital bunches of times before it 86'ed..in fact im in my friend shakiki's photo compilation she put on here. I toured her through there in '06, right before they tore it down. I'd love to accompany you on one of your missions sometime. You do a great job. I'm actually planning a trip to a NJ asylum as soon as the weather breaks.
Paperclips, coins, and doorstops can often do the trick, and won't get you in serious trouble if you were to get caught. I wish I could bring a whole bag of tools but its really not the greatest idea. Getting locked in a place like this is truly a nightmare situation. I actually spoke with someone who got locked in a stairwell at this asylum 4 days before I shot this footage. He took apart his flashlight to use parts to pick the door open. Took him a few hours. Scary.
i stumbled upon your videos surprisingly watching a video completely un related. i do have to say that i give you major major props! i visited lambertville about 3-4 years ago and it was very difficult to navigate through the halls and stairs when they're basically just giant holes. this video was amazing i felt like i was walking with you guys the whole time. i am curious about what happened towards the end! being a new jersyan i love that a majority of your videos are filmed here, since i can't visit them all! you're awesome continue to make safe videos! :D
Oh my gosh I when the bird smacked into that wall I couldn't help but laugh and watch it 5 more times. It's like he tripped out so hard when he saw you that he didn't know where to go and just smacked into it. Haha all I'm so terrible for thinking that's funny.
EDIT: I found a separate clip of that sound at the end. Strange Sound in Abandoned Insane Asylum - NY ~My explanation~ Sound explained: Logical explanation The sound you hear is NOT pigeons. Too loud and too regular. It is also not human. Or a ghost. The sound is mechanical, like a combination of a rubbing vet and air whistling. A common occurrence when opening a down stairs door that leads upwards with an opening at the top. This is often referred to as the "Stack effect". (This draft effect is what allows a chimney or smoke stack to function. The higher the stack the more airflow generated.) The most likely cause is that there was indeed an air draft caused by the opening of the door. The sudden draft of air would cause an old vent or fan up top of the the stairwell to turn and rub, making this loud, odd, repeating noise. The shutting of the door would cut of the vacuum and stop the airflow from turning the vent/whistling over something. This is explained by the stop and start with the opening and shutting of the door, as this would increase and decrease the airflow suddenly enough to create the above effect. These air drafts can actually be very strong. If you want proof, on a nice day close of all windows and doors in your house and crack one window upstairs. Stand by it or hold a pinwheel in front of it, and have someone downstairs open the lowest door or window. You will feel a strong draft. This intensifies the higher the building, thus more wind and more chance for noise. This building is very high so the force of the air would be more than enough to move a rusty vent and/or create a whistling effect. Sound explained. I would put my money on it.
I hear you. I do have tyvek coveralls, but usually do not have room for it in my bag. Bulky = suspect. Walking in the building is when most fibers get kicked up in the air, asbestos (among other things) is mostly a hazard when directly inhaled. I often throw my clothes right in a plastic bag when we leave, wash our clothes and shower asap, and are constantly cleaning out the car. Better than nothing. I've seen many other people explore in shorts and open toe sandals with no mask at all.
Wow... Based on the timing of this video, a LOT of deterioration had taken place since its closing in 2003. I don't know. Maybe it's just me; but it I guess for being 10 years abandoned, I thought it'd be in overall better shape. What a great adventure, though! I love TheUnknownCameraman's explorations!!!
+Tranquility32 Well it burned in the 70s and they didn't repair that portion. Then they continued to close down portions of it until the close in '03. So, a lot of the REALLY bad damage probably was from older wings. I'm thinking more the beginning part that it's just the ceiling and plumbing that are really bad along with dirt and graffiti that was still open in 2003.
+Tranquility32 Then I guess we're both loony because I thought the same thing. It should have been in better shape. When I was looking for a house, there was one for sale that was empty for 20 years. It was a beautiful brick house on the outside. I was curious, so I asked to see it. The yard was overgrown with shrubs that went wild because they were never trimmed. The exterior doors, of course, were weather damaged, but still intact. No one went in and damaged it with graffiti and it was not vandalized. The windows were all intact, but showed serious weathering. The oak hardwood floors were once gorgeous, obviously, but were somewhat buckled. The reason for that was the basement had water. It had a sump pump, but when the power was turned off, the basement filled half way with water. I asked why it was left unoccupied. The owners got into a vicious battle in a divorce, and the husband was required to pay half the proceeds to the wife when he sold it. He walked away from the house when he found a girlfriend and refused to sell it, leaving it to rot. He paid the taxes on it so the County wouldn't foreclose for any unpaid taxes, but he did nothing with the house for all those years. They had no children, so when his ex-wife died, he then listed it for sale. He did not want her to have a dime from the house. After I prodded the agent, I discovered that she was the one who worked so he could finish medical school.
Brayden Bledsoe No. The agent was hired by the husband to try to sell the house. After I read that sentence again, I can see it wasn't clear. It was the husband's ex-wife who worked to put him through school. I then found out who the owner was. I wanted to make damned sure that neither I nor my wife nor anyone I cared about would ever be treated for anything by a hateful s.o.b.. like that. He wasn't going to get one dime of our money.
I've gone urban exploring since I've been 13 . I've lived in the outer suburbs my entire life so it's convenient to find some abandoned places back then and when I could drive I did search and found a few good places . Ever since people started to move in to Denver all the historic and abandoned places are starting to get demolished around the city . Kinda saddens .
Thank you SO much for these videos. It's really a privilege to "tag along" with you as you take us into unknown territory. It just boggles my mind to see such big places abandoned like that, with some things left, like the patient paperwork, to disappear with time. What happened at the end? almost sounded like there was something mechanical actually working...and an indication that you had been joined by a security guard maybe? Great great work.
Were you guys aware that different masks have various periods of time where after which the max time is reached they no longer protect you as well? Check the specs carefully of the type you are using. The brands these days are better to a degree, but still have safe wear time limits....take care...NK
I remember being a kid and going here before it was shutdown and had nice paint and everything when I would go with my mother to pick up her paychecks. It's insane how much the place had deteriorated! I actually recognize some of the spots in the buildings you show, but looking nice back then! Great work!
What was the noise at the end? Soo creepy. I love places like this. There is a vacation place in the Catskills that's abandoned on here..a place like in the movie dirty dancing. When I saw the deer it reminded me of the movie with Will Smith.. I Am Legend..I was waiting for zombies to be huddled in one of those rooms.. Imagine that place at night.. Ugh.. I still wanna know what the noise was at the end.. Maybe you said it and I didn't hear
Would you ever consider going into the Seattle Underground? Also supposedly where I am (near Yale University) there's an abandoned underground concourse from the old Taft Hotel. The barber shop, dance hall, and some shops are supposedly still intact.
Could you maybe Talk to "us" in the video. Your videos are great don't get me wrong. But maybe Talk during the video, maybe like a tour guide. If you could do that, thank you, and keep up the good vids!.
I'm not a tour guide I'm just a dude in a sketchy environment trying to be quiet and aware of my surroundings so if there is another person in there, animals, or security, I am aware of them before they are aware of me. I talk when I feel comfortable doing so, but typically try to remain stealthy. Hope you understand. Thanks for watching!
***** Have you ever encountered someone whilst exploring, or perhaps experienced something that really scared you. I would love to hear about it :). You should make a video on the weirdest stuff that has happened to you, would love to hear about it.
All in all, this is my VERY favorite / the BEST exploration video I have ever seen. Definately one of the best abandoned explorations I will ever see online. Thank you for risking yourselves & showing us this amazing & rare footage. #FullyAppreciated ,}
That poor bird. That place is awesome and it looks like they treated the patients good to have a bowling lane and a theater. That was cool to see dear there. Great work.
That sound at 8:51 sounded like you breathing through the respirator, perhaps? I heard it a few more times in the video. Excellent video btw. Couldn't believe that pool still had water in it
8:52, you hear a kind of cheetah-like roar.. I had to go back twice, but realized it was definitely the wind! Still awesome to hear wind like that in this type of setting! Also, thank you for being respectful! I've been in there a few times, and one time there was another group of guys throwing stuff around, destroying everything.. Pissed me off.
Despite the place being a paint peeling dump, the residual vibe does not seem as horrible as other mental facilities. Which is surprising considering the bare bones design. Low on the sadness, despair and creep factor. Maybe the staff was decent? Maybe there was some hope and positive direction for the clients.
I just love seeing abandonded places and wish I didn't have such a creative imagination otherwise I would definitly be out there hunting through places. I would be jumping at the littleist sound! lol great video but I agree it would be good to hear more commentary, describing the smells etc
"I am trapped in an enigma, a riddle of an extistence, unbeknownst to the outside world but the time has come to let you know." Now that's some trippy shit.
A bird dying right in front of you like that has GOT to be bad luck... Especially in a creepy abandoned building.
Kidiu Don't worry, it's good luck. In Haiti.
***** nothing says good luck like a dead ass bird
Code Black airsoft don't worry that means dave strider has all of the luck
+Kidiu maybe it'll be okay....??
+ian haha😂😂😂 of course!

Yah that caught me by surprise. If this is a mental hospital then i want to be mentally unstable. Where do i sign up?
*****
For the patients, or employees?
***** Yup and mental institutions,TB hospitals often had their own power plants.
All this without a single "Dude, something just touched my neck." or an "OMG I just seen a shadow move over there... you know that spot thats just outside my cam's field of vision and only I could of seen!" lol
I love how you don't like mess with anything, you just leave it be. *applauds you*

Jordan Dashley I would, I much rather my tax money go to that then into the pocket of our corrupt politicians
why do people have to destroy shit and cant leave it alone :(
God I want to go urban exploring so bad
*walks in brush*
OH SHIT IS THAT A TICK?! FUCK THIS
The bird dying added to it. I can't believe a whole community was in there. I wonder how many people died there.

Eric S LOL, i see what you did there!
I love the little blips of information you put in your videos; it reminds me of that show VH1 used to have called Pop-up Video. You guys rock!
Yes! Thanks!
The Megan Experience Pop up video!
Yeah, that's always been a HUGE plus to me in this videos from Unknown Cameraman. +1

The last building he went in to was enough to cause a hasty retreat.
@Camilo P Epsteins temple
That Inspector Gadget grafiti was EPIC!

Marinna LOL Yes xDDDD
I agree with sean that shit was funny

Check at 8:54 and tell me that didn't send goosebumps down your spine.
Beefcake Ortiz What, the sound of me breathing?
Lexi Martinez .... It whistles a little when I breathe through the p100 filters on my respirator. That's the sound you are hearing, I promise you. You can hear it several times throughout this video and many others.

a bird killing itself by flying into a wall is Always a bad sign I would have left then and there

Once the Russians started pouring into NY we couldn't tell who was crazy anymore and shut the asylums down =P
Great video! Thanks for keeping the camera as steady as possible. I am completely intrigued by how intact everything was.
WOAH! That was creepy at the end, WTF WAS THAT? notice it was perfectly timed with the seconds counter
I just can't believe that bird. Wtf.

Some times places like this isn't safe since the building may be decaying and the floor could cave in and you could fall to your death.
Yeah this place was pretty dangerous. Between 17:00 - 18:00 I definitely could have died.
***** Just be careful my friend keep up the videos stay safe.
*****... Guess I had that one coming! LOL! ; )
+Tacks Sherbo and by "she", do you mean the agent herself was the wife?
Kinda saddens .
outlast ?
Just no crazy doctor lol
LITTLE PIG
Thank you SO much for these videos. It's really a privilege to "tag along" with you as you take us into unknown territory. It just boggles my mind to see such big places abandoned like that, with some things left, like the patient paperwork, to disappear with time. What happened at the end? almost sounded like there was something mechanical actually working...and an indication that you had been joined by a security guard maybe? Great great work.
That bird flying into the wall was creepy.
Very nicely made documentation. Love videos like this and also very professional. Bravo.
Thank you Mark
Ok, isn't anyone gonna talk about that snake? Like guuurl, if I had seen that shit in my face looking at me, I would've just burried myself there
Daria Jane yeah crazy, just nice brushed it to the side & WALKED on, not me! 😱
Hell, I'd have kept the damn thing as a pet if it wasn't a venomous species.
I'm new, from Brazil...and finaly i have found someone who like do Irban Exploration...PLZ CONTINUE.
peace.
I just came for the graffiti.
Yeah and not "1 dick" was drawn. Bravo!
okay the bird dying freaks me the fuck out
31:12, cope throwup! Legendary!
+theyourmumifyer cope is a pussy
+ロクショウ word. He went over Ether and Evak went over Utah. Smh.
Out of all your videos I've seen so far, this one is my favourite
BAHAHA AT THE BIRD AT 26:27
that graffiti at 25 minutes or so "EVAK". Someone has really got some talent with spray cans.
How........are you not afraid?
Too incredible of an experience to let fear get in the way. Being prepared also puts my mind at ease.
That snake was the scariest thing I saw in this clip.
Gooner Goggles Yeah I would have been like "FUCK THIS, I'M OUT!"
I understand you dude. Your vids are awesome either way!
Thanks!
👍
***** Have you ever encountered someone whilst exploring, or perhaps experienced something that really scared you. I would love to hear about it :). You should make a video on the weirdest stuff that has happened to you, would love to hear about it.
29:14 was worth the wait to see that!
That yellow chair at 13:11 was a little suspicious...
All in all, this is my VERY favorite / the BEST exploration video I have ever seen. Definately one of the best abandoned explorations I will ever see online.
Thank you for risking yourselves & showing us this amazing & rare footage.
#FullyAppreciated ,}
Does anyone else find if creppy that EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DOOR IS ALREADY OPEN?!
That poor bird. That place is awesome and it looks like they treated the patients good to have a bowling lane and a theater. That was cool to see dear there. Great work.
Wouldn't it be interesting if this was the hideout of a machete wielding serial killer ?
:)
Have you read JTHM? If not you should.
larissa osteen
I haven't read it but i know what it's basically about.
Cool. I personally have read all 7 books of it and have the directors cut, if you're ever bored its a pretty good read.
larissa osteen
Yeah, i'll check it out later.
They might run into Michael Myers in there
Every time I watch videos of decayed places I immediately remember Silent Hill heheheheh
Poor bird...I laughed a little...I feel bad now...
lol sames
After watching American horror story season 2 I don't want anything to do with abandoned mental hospitals. Not lookin to run into bloody face
Salad fingers at 33:18
a huge contrast between the early buildings to the more recent '70s buildings, pretty cool
You should have picked up the bird and held it in your hands.. Most likely theyre just in shock and the body heat sort of helps them to come back..
That sound at 8:51 sounded like you breathing through the respirator, perhaps? I heard it a few more times in the video. Excellent video btw. Couldn't believe that pool still had water in it
Yes, that is absolutely correct. The filters have a whistling sound when you breathe heavily through them.
I was surprised there was water in the pool, but it was probably because of leaking roof letting rain in.
You 2 are some brave souls
8:52, you hear a kind of cheetah-like roar.. I had to go back twice, but realized it was definitely the wind! Still awesome to hear wind like that in this type of setting! Also, thank you for being respectful! I've been in there a few times, and one time there was another group of guys throwing stuff around, destroying everything.. Pissed me off.
What was the noise at the towards the end of the video?
+Kimberly Martin I was wondering the same
+Hostile Gun pidgeons
I can't stop watching your videos!! Props man. I'd wet myself going down dark, wet, scary hallways. And I love the way you capture everything! ✌️
31:33 Inspector Gadget!
Very cool. Gotta say, all the peeling paint sometimes gives the effect that the place is sort of "melting".
What happened at the end that made you guys bail?
Were all still wondering, months later....
CenturyOakWindStar years later
Despite the place being a paint peeling dump, the residual vibe does not seem as horrible as other mental facilities. Which is surprising considering the bare bones design. Low on the sadness, despair and creep factor. Maybe the staff was decent? Maybe there was some hope and positive direction for the clients.
R3d Moon Rizing agree with you
30:41 COPE2!!!
?
SuperSpinos
a graffiti king
I hate him, I hate all graffiti artists
over utah and ether like a fucking toy
CT Center i love all the graffiti even all the nonsense written by prospectors and fiends, it has a sense of anarchy away from the real world
I just love seeing abandonded places and wish I didn't have such a creative imagination otherwise I would definitly be out there hunting through places. I would be jumping at the littleist sound! lol great video but I agree it would be good to hear more commentary, describing the smells etc
Briarclif? lol
"I am trapped in an enigma, a riddle of an extistence, unbeknownst to the outside world but the time has come to let you know."
Now that's some trippy shit.
