*HUGE MISTAKE* Buying A Lincoln Town Car With A Bad EVERYTHING

  • I got a message about a cheap Lincoln Town Car that just clicks when they turn the key. Of course I was in as soon the seller said they'd $700, what could go wrong? It turns out everything can go wrong. The car is completely shot, unknown miles, no fuel, none of the tires hold air... you can tell someone loved it 20 years ago but it's had a very rough life since then. This is the beginning and end of my ownership with the car!

    Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make TH-cam videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

20 years ago one of those town cars saved my family. Hit by a chevy 1500 truck that was doing 70mph. All 4 of us walked away. Love those cars.

I was hit by one of them in college, I was in 79 Camaro, looked like I was in a demo derby, the car was destroyed ( thankfully no serious injury and it paid for a 86 I-Roc which I loved back then) the Lincon looked like it hit a trash can, Unfortnalty lady driving broke her nose ( but was otherwise OK), she was doing 50 in a 25 zone and blew through a stop sign on a one way and t-boned me. They are tanks, but are 80's cars.. haven't watched the video yet but as somebody who owned many an 80s car, almost all brands had a 100,000 end of life on them, maybe not the engine and tranny but the rest of them fell apart.

Glad to hear your family survived such a crash. But at the same time ppl should know that for any given car crash, you're generally safer in a unibody car than a body-on-frame.
If the frame of that truck connected solidly with the frame of the town car, it might not have ended so well.
And also, like anything, while something might generally make you safer, it might not always. Like when seatbelts trap people in burning or sinking-in-water cars.

I was driving my 94 town car when a car hit me that caused me to hit a truck I felt like a ball in a pinball machine. Both the car and trucked were pretty messed up and couldn't move anymore the town car had dents and would still turn on.these cars are amazing and very good cars. I hope they bring em back soon but not ugly ones. RIP to the Lincoln town car

Getting it to running and driving status might not be worth it financially but it would have made a cool set of videos for us to watch. I'm sure we would have learned a lot. I don't think you would have regretted it given the cool factor of the car even if you lost money on it in the end.

He might have lost money on the car itself, but he probably would have came out good on ad revenue. Would have been good for his channel to, his videos have been kind of lacking recently. They’re missing cool projects, I don’t care about cleaning headlights and putting new struts in some 15 year old suv.

    • @davidpick1076
      @davidpick1076 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I would have liked to see 1 more video of the car in the shop with JR and friends confirming what's all wrong with the car.
Utilize a lift and perform an oil pan removal on the engine and determine if there's a big hole in the transmission or just a blown line.
But I get it. No money to be maid on that car if JR goes any farther. I say the rust free body with all working accessories is worth more than scrap to the right buyer.

My mom had one of these in the signature series. Nice garnet red interior. We drive that car to West Virginia and actually slept in it at a rest stop because my dad was too tired to find a hotel. Huddled in the backseat of the car under a blanket and a pillow. My sister at the other end. Mom and dad sound asleep, doors locked. My dad had a .38 revolver under his leg and my mom had a .357 behind her back. We were overlanding before it was a thing and because my dad was cheap and drove to the point of exhaustion. We stopped and slept in some sketchy areas.

The Signature version was the entry level Town Car.
As for the Ford Keyless Entry on the door, my 1983 Ford Thunderbird Heritage had the system Using the keypad you can open the trunk, power windows, and driver/passenger door(s) together or independently.
Another thing I really liked on those cars, as well as my Thunderbird and 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado, were the turning lamps that illuminated the direction you were turning to. I believe my mom's '66 Buuck Riviera had them as well.

    • @norezenable

That keypad alone is a compelling reason to buy a ford product. I eyeball the newer (3rd gen) town cars for only that reason vs similar powered and reliable sedans. I wouldn't mind a Town Car Ultimate L despite its weird looks.

    • @josephmiddleton908

The Signature Series was the mid level trim for this generation of Town Car starting in 1984. Signature was the top level trim from 1981 to 1983 until the Cartier trim level moved from the Mark VI to Town Car in 1984. The standard/base level for this generation was known as simply Town Car, except for the 1980 model year when the model name was still Continental despite the new Panther body.

JR if you want one of these that is in crazy great condition, shoot me a message. My elderly neighbor was a master mechanic and kept all of his cars in tip top condition and stored in a garage. He fell and broke his hip about 8 months ago and has not been able to come home since then. He asked me to sale some of his cars for him. He has a one owner 86 Town Car that has somewhere between 70 and 80k on it. Rust free ding free, power seats, cold ac, keyless entry, 5.0 real nice car... I drove it once and I was shocked at just how smooth the engine was, sitting still at a light you couldnt tell the engine was idling and you let go of the wheel at 50 mph and the car just stayed straight like a new one. I see them going for crazy amounts on bat and other classic car sites. He said I put it on an auction site if I want or he is looking for someone to make an offer, I think he has too much stuff to get rid of to think about trying to get top dollar for any of it. Love the channel, thx.

A little over 2 years ago a guy came into my (insert chain parts store) wanting to sell his mom's CLEAN, GARAGED 2004 Signature. It was dark early on a Saturday evening and I could only see the interior which looked and smelled new. It sat for a year because she was approaching 75 and didn't drive anymore. I would up buying my gorgeous 2004 Town Car for $3200 with 79K miles. I replaced all the typical parts, serviced all the fluids, and did shocks/struts, and anything that had hard, cracked rubber in the suspension. All in I am less than 4K into a car that will last another 20 years. The rear bumper needs some love because of a corner scuff that went deep.

Just because it was garaged doesn't mean condensation didn't affect the motor. I just sold one that sat in a barn for 17 years to a mechanic. When I parked it everything was clean under the hood but environmental factors caused rust under the hood. 127k was on the motor There is a fluid you can add to the engine to break up any corrosion that may have formed while it sat. His plan was to add the additive before starting it.

Too bad, this one takes me back, my dad bought a new one back in ‘85, I think it was a Cartier edition or a Signature like this one, but it was 2 tone white and silver with a light grey interior. I remember the pass key, the illuminated thermometer and digital gauges. We had the CFI 5.0 V8 in ours. Grew up in that car and my dad got rid of it in the late 90’s when it began to stall randomly.
Would have loved to see something happen with this one but I don’t exactly blame him for ending it here, this one was a mess and it was done for. A shame but when you have a BNR32 in your garage.... I know what I’d rather do.
