It surprised me to discover this, but having traveled all over the western half of the US, California has more litterbugs than anywhere else I've been. You'll see litter in the most beautiful places. Drives me crazy too Gary.

Really glad to see Jeff come out on top. Maybe conditions are'nt always perfect for the sluice box, but that particular one is so small seems like you could always take it with you, could even strap it to the outside of your backpack or just let Jeff carry it. Just seems better than finding one piece at a time. Even if you don't use it, will be there if you do.

I’m starting all the lead in a can and going to see how much I end up with at the end of the year , compared to the gold I find. At the rate I’m going probably have a whole lot more lead than gold.lol

As a young fellow in the 1960s and 70s I wanted to come down to California because of the girls/music and the ⛱ beaches , now that I'm a older fellow I want to come down to California to chill with you Gary , lol and of course with Jeff as well. 😁🇨🇦❤🇺🇲✌. Also I've never heard you cuss before so those pecker-heads that leave their trash behind better clean up their act .

I'm happy to say some of the areas of concern in my videos were in fact cleaned up but it won't take long before it's a dumping ground again. I think you covered the sluice box really well on this adventure. Jeff’s piece made me drool a little. A sniping video is way overdue and am looking forward to that! Please snipe as much as you can this year 👍. I was looking forward to lots of gold this year as well but with heavy fires in my area everything is shut down for the time being. I just got adjustable legs for mine, so you can set it up in the river, get the angle and you don’t need to worry about placing rocks. I also saw a guy clip on extended wings on the inlet to guide more water in, gunna try that next weekend. Great video

Thanks for the video, Gary. I live in Washington state, and we've also been banned from using highbankers. So, I guess I'll have to dismantle my HB's and convert them back to sluices. One nice thing about a sluice is that it is so much quieter than a HB. Thanks Gary...it's always a pleasure.
Same here. Whatcom County WA. I found my biggest picker of .4 grams in my DIY highbanker, and then they banned them 2 years later...Grrrrrrr 😡

Ran a sluice box for the first few times the other day. With some material I know there was gold in. Good size flakes and some pickers. When I did my cleanup. I had almost nothing. So I definitely need to tune my setup.

There is a lesson to be had from that target Jeff threw away.
Always check both halves of the split BEFORE you throw away the unwanted half.

Awe, you guys are killen me with all that gold you finding. I was out on the 3rd. Went up the Calapooia River far as the road would let me. 16.5 miles of no parking signs. I eventually found a spot to get in on some bedrock. Spent about an hour and found 2 micro fly poop specks. I did a bunch of redearch on that trib, found a old addit and two possilbe other mining spots. Access is very limited due to local logging. Best off just to keep prospecting in other places. Good job on that gold Gary. Makes me wonder how much went thru the 50 mesh into the black sand bucket...
Wauting fir Jeffs vid to come out so I can die a little more as I watch him pull that "big'n" out... I would have loved to been there to see his eyes light up. Its a keeper, glad he didn't throw that one back too...

I spent a couple summers panning in Oregon and found more gold in one pan in CA.

Had me a sweet spot going on until the wildfire burnt everything into ablivian and closed down my glory hole. Now Im on the prowl for another but all I seem to be finding is people and locked gates. Awesome vid. My old buddy who I detected with for relics passed away last year. We went panning a few times. He was quite the prospector in the 80s and 90s. Left me all his old equipment and I found a nice spot due to recent flooding/erosion. Going all day tommorow for a self taught crash course. But I hope ol' Bruce is up there helping me find some flakes.

Thank You!! for bringing up the trash problem we have in the public lands. It drives me crazy to see trash in beautiful areas. I always leave it cleaner than I found it. I believe the city folks think the rangers will pick it up.....
bring powdered gatorade mix it up as you need it and a water filter. filter some of the yuba. mix in some gatorade up to you just a thought. have a good day.

Great video.. I do alot of sluicing here in Colombia and I would love see more on this. We use primitive equipment here but it works real well. We put a potato or onion sack on the bottom of the tray and use wooden slats wedged in with pieces of rubber tube to hold it all in place. Most our gold gets caught between the first wedge before it even gets to the potato sack material. Our pans are primitive too. We use solid wooden pans. They work great and they float too which actually makes them alot easier to use then the plastic ones. All the material, gold/black sands/etc settle in the center in the cone which also makes it easier. I need to look for more of these at an antique shop because most the ones we use are quite old...

When I'm out and see garbage, that also pisses me off I usually have a duffle bag I put it in and put it in my dumpster, Man that is some good gold, I'm hoping to find some like that this summer I never used a gold sluice before but I like how you set it up and just go to work
I enjoy sluicing but our club claims ran dry as a popcorn fart.I classify my material mark my map and finish at home in my mini clean up sluice.You did great for that short excursion to the gold fields anyway.Keep up the good work.David out

Can you get caught with a battery pump? I haven't looked up the regulation for CA in a couple year. They move enough water to high bank, but not dredge

Dont ike litter? Find yourself a remote secret spot. Plenty of those in the deserts and mountains. Your going to find junk almost everywhere, mining camps, etc. You would never be a beach hunter, with your intolerance of trash. You prob would not be a good park nor relic hunter, niether. I love the rivers myself. Grew up on them. Good work. Great exercize and fresh air for you.

Hi Gary ... I'm from Germany ..... but .... I start that placer mining theater 1980 July up McLeod River in B.C. Canada ....
And work for years hand bombing ,- then for 25Years machine mining in B.C. on my own ....excavator,- cat .- wash plants (trommel /screen ) pumps and all them others ( "I need to have ..." 😂)
Today I do some consulting for big sand outfits ...on the rhein river .....
Just say that ,- ( I'm not a lot of a green horn ) because it is real rare , that you see people on TH-cam who can handle a pan in a good manner and technique .....
The conditions in a pan are changing with the material and water amount real quick.....
Them big riffles are not so helpful then people think.....
For my own I use allways a Estwing 14" steel ...........
Only three good panners I picked for my modest opinion .....on TH-cam

Sure there are lot of good panner also ,- but nobody at the screen ( TH-cam)

Every grid knot ,- with a excavator .....and the layers samplig....panning panning panning ..for a number of days.... accurat and quick .. before bulk sampling ... and and

for a good start...
Your explanation of the size of the pan ,- with the big "Playground " in the center .....
And the water play space ... with certain amount of water to the material ....

Gary, is that moss you’re using in your sluice instead of carpet? I’ve been told that moss is really meant more for high bankers and dredges to grab that material at higher flow rates. This person (owner of a small prospecting supply store in NH) said that moss will get clogged up too quickly in a sluice and that carpet was the way to go. What are your thoughts on that?

You may not have beaten Jeff on the weight this go-around, but it looks like he worked a lot harder for his nugget than you did throwing gravel into the sluice box. On a gold return for calories burned, you probably beat him. ;)
And because I'm kind of lazy person and don't like wasting my cheeseburger calories, the idea of a sluice box appeals to me... Would love for you to go into more depth on the use of them.
