I didn't buy this, but I did buy the 50 dollar bundle and a collector booster box, and I'm happy with my pulls. I got a lot of insanely fun cool pulls, and I even got the promo Merfolk card Professor showed off previously!! I'm excited to play Arabella commander decklist or try my hand on cheesy wins with Winter plus doomsday demon for 6 black mana via deckout.
Let's be honest, at this point it's pretty evident Play Boosters (and probably even the Draft/Set booster split ahead of time) was all just an excuse to up booster prices instead of just idly blaming inflation.
I heard a lot that game stores where just sitting on their draft boosters. I believe them when they say they had to consolidate them because set boosters were killing draft. But I also believe they took that opportunity and milked it for as much as they could
Honestly, booster boxes should not cost more than $100 with 36 packs each with 14-15 cards. And there should be a token in every pack. There is no reason that mass-produced cards cost as much as WotC overcharges those boxes.
MSRP of Play Booster Boxes should be $99.95 Play Boosters should have 20 cards - Guaranteed tokens, basic lands, Art Series cards should go to an Art Series Booster
Have to say, you opening packs while just talking to the camera off the top of your head has become my favourite kind of pack opening videos that you make. Of course, this wouldn't work with a box of play boosters as it already takes some time to go through them even without that, but just take this as encouragement to make more of those pack opening videos (when you want to make them, that is).
I used to love hearing the Professor talk about his feelings about the set over these videos. Always felt like having a nice chat with a friends whilst you open packs together.
@@pretzelsaregood57 everyone knows that it s better to buy singles if you wanna build a deck or collect some cards. It s not worth at all to buy card packs, they are full of rubbish, it s just cool to unpack them. Still this video makes sense tho

Thank you Prof for continuing to open boxes for us over the years as prices keep going up and the value down lol. I know there's a million box break channels out there but for some reason yours have always been more pleasant to listen and watch. thank you and the team for the years of content!
I was very happy when they introduced Set Boosters, fun and varied and didn't contain as much commons. Play Boosters are just slightly different Draft Boosters for more money. I gave them a chance, but I also gave up on them. WotC had my money with Set Boosters, now they've screwed it up again!
The sad part is in the north where money might as well be monopoly currency a play booster is $220cad before taxes. Even with currency conversions there is a steep markup.
I actually opened my very first box 2 days ago, after 11 years of Magic. My hometown, Helsinki, has this somewhat pricy game/comic/manga store that runs monthly sales of certain older products and a draft box of Zendikar rising was just 81 euros. I got 15 euros from the extra promos they gave me, 32 euros from the topper Scalding Tarn and then about 80 euros from the mythics(foil showcase Omnath ^^), rares and certain uncommons over 1 euro on mcm low..
Gotta say out of all the sleeper cards you hit, Sheltered by Ghosts and Calix Guided by fate is a disgusting combo. Getting temporary exile + ward 2 every turn snowballs, fast.
If I ever buy a box of magic again, I'm just going to have the mindset that I don't care of the value and I hope I get cool cards to play cardboard crack with. If I go in with the hope of somehow being able to sell a couple cards and get the value back I'm going to be sad 99% of the times. And that is not fun.
Isn't selling a small portion of a bulk lot for net profit kind of a ridiculous expectation though? Like, people just want free money as the baseline? If I could recoup a bit of the cost, have fun actually using the product, and had the chance to maybe hit a money card I think I'd be happy. I understand wanting value but I don't get these people that want guaranteed profit. Do they even like Magic to begin with?
Thank you for making this video! Especially as a new paper player, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what you got and if you ended up getting your money's worth.
I have to say, I've been surprisingly pleased with Duskmourn. I went into it with no real expectations but I think it's become my favorite set of the year. The theming is actually quite fun and even more than that, the cards themselves are spectacular - there's so much in this set I've gotten between prerelease, a draft, a box, and some miscellaneous packs that I've really really liked and can't wait to use in deckbuilds. Kadena in particular got lots of new toys for me to play with and that's very exciting for me
"Fear of failed tests" flavour adjustment suggestion: It currently draws cards based on combat damage dealt by itself, which doesn't really feel like a failed test to me. I would rather have it draw cards when something was attempted, but fails. Like casting a spell, only for it to be countered (draw when an opponent's spell is countered, a number of cards equal to the mana value of the countered card), or when an attack becomes blocked (...equal to the damage dealt to the blocking creature).
I have a bad habit of watching these review videos after I’ve already bought the product, but hey I rlly like this set so I’m glad to have gotten a box this time
if they just yeeted the collector boxes and gave us one collector slot a booster I'd be a little warmer to higher priced booster packs. but they didn't, and I'm not.
I think they should do that but still keep the collectors boxes. I personally have the expendable income to buy collector boxes and enjoy them. But I don't like the idea of ANYTHING being only available in one product. It'd be SICK af to open a random play booster and get a textured foiled Japanese art card. Even if that is at a crazy lower percentage rate.
@LS19981 I'm not sure what you mean. They already tell exactly exactly how many packs are in a box, and how many of each rarity are in each pack. Even how many lands are in the pack. Though none of that is stated on the packs, I'd like to see that be thing.
Time for the CAG to step up. Theres no reality that wotc doesn't bungle this and unban cards just to cram chase cards into new sets. Although a throacle ban would be appreciated at the higher level tables for me.

It's also why US collector boosters have the rares and mythics up front while the Japanese ones have them in the back (typically.preferred for more excitement).
Imo it's worth it for the price if you go by TCGplayer price of the singles, and the packs and planeswalkers are nice. It is funny that two of the decks can't run the Jace and ajani they come with

War of the spark killed it for me and I took a break till bloomburrow. Im not a fan of hopscotch through planes but I guess its the world we live in now. (Maybe its just old man yells at clouds but it does bum me out)
I think part of it was bloomburrow being out for such a minuscule amount of time too, like a few weeks of cute animals and then directly into a completely tonally opposite plane in the span of just over a month is way too fast
Its because youre not playing enough black. Obviously.
Great set.
I'm interested in a valgavoth!!
I didn't even know you could get those special guest cards LOL I didn't get a single one in my box
1st card primo (the token) was worth 5 bucks when the set came out LOL. I swear tokens are where the real value is at these days!
I wish it was 130$ here in Spain, local game stores tag the boxes at 200$
Oooh, y'all. DefCat's "The Shrimpson Boys" that Rhodes bell coming in and hitting both sides of my ears (I had my headphones in for this one).
Excellent lofi ambience right there
I'm opening mine now...... four myrhics within the first four packs. Now five mythics, but two thirds the way through, and nothing much else.
a bit off subject, but will there be a mgiccon 2025 in Vegas and will you be there doing the event again, if so I would happily come out and sling some spells
The only way to get value out of a box is keeping it sealed and selling it in like 2 years when the cards might be worth something. I'm always shocked when non youtubers buy a box.
How hard are common and uncommon showcase cards to get? I only got one showcase uncommon from my collectors box. And maybe two from a play booster box
I will be there in vegas!!! I will bring my bird deck to challenge you!
Honestly this is why Card Kingdom gets so much of my money lol. Just barely pulled of that 130 dollars.
Did they even do any lore on the charecters in the cards like who is the person in the art of gremlin tamer what's their story
Sometimes there are novels/ short stories / comics
Im new to tcgs. If this is a new product how people determine the value of the cards or know the prices tho? Why it gets low or higher?
Supply vs demand
I got a collector booster yesterday and pulled 4 rares but nothing over value of $1 each
I wasn’t happy
Silly Professor! Boxes are for drafting!!! JK Crack that stuff!
I’ve always wondered… why is the order of cards different in the US than in the EU? We got commons first, then uncommons, then rares, then foil and token.
Depends on the set. Sometimes ours are like that
I bought a collectors box and pulled about 50 bucks worth of stuff for 45. Wasn't expecting that at all, I know I got lucky and Im pretty hapy about it
