My introduction to computers back in the mid 80s was a Spectravideo SV328 but I REALLY wanted to get my hands on a CX5M. Somewhere along the way I scored a bunch of brand new original Yamaha UDC-01 data cartridges and one of the 101 Music Composer cartridges still in the box but never EVER got the CX5M. I still have the bloody things stored in the cupboard behind me - about 10 of them. Can't find any information on a rough price to sell them on eBay and they'll definitely need to have new batteries - but otherwise never been out of their plastic sleeves. I moved on to (and past) a DX100 then DX27 then DX7 and a whole range of Casios but what really sucks big black dog's balls is that all of them are now easily emulated on the PC so they are redundant. Still kinda fun to dig out and mess with from time to time though. Gotta love that old 80s sound.

I have a Philips Music Module that I've had for over 30 years. A couple of years ago I bought an MSX2 so that I could play around with the built-in software again (the Music Module is a toy compared to a fully loaded CX5M). I also bought a second Music Module recently, because it came with the Philips keyboard that I never had. I then got to thinking: there are MIDI ports on the Music Module. What would happen if I connect it to my Mu128? And lo and behold, I now had the most low-end, not even remotely properly functioning Midi player... It sounded awful, but it WAS fun... ;-).

Loves me some CX5M! Dunno if you've experimented with openMSX emulator running on PC. NOTE: My friend with Asperger holds and bends his hands in exactly the same way.

Isn't it just a regular OPL2 chip in the module?

No the OPL2 came out later.
      They are similar.

Got one. Music composer program has to be most awkward program to use
