That looks like a real easy fix. A little Rubber Cement would take care of that issue. This issue isn't a issue that cannot be fixed real easily. I feel the SRK Series is an exceptional value. Thank you for sharing. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Sounds interesting, please elaborate a bit on your experience as I am looking to purchase an srk in 3v and I want people experience upgrading them, cheers mate
I agree that the handle did get loose. That is a different perspective than your first complaint video. In that video you also complained about the tip and tang breaking. This did not happen with your more vigorous testing in this video. Lastly, you spent a bit of time complaining that they never sent you free knives, even though you tested a lot of their products. I hope that this isn’t part of the reason you “developed” a more negative/critical review of their knives. I’ve done some hard work with my recon tanto (no throwing) and my handle has yet to loosen or rattle at all.
The tip is probably not going to chip this soon in the game, but mine did chip from throwing after a few months. My motive for making this video was the amount of time I spent trying to fix the handles. I can even deal with the chip. That doesn’t bother me as much as the handle. All things aside, Cold Steel has done me kind of dirty. One of the agents reached out a while back and offered to send me something from SOG (I guess he services both) but never sent me anything even after me telling them what I wanted to review. Guys like me on this level have to have stuff being sent to us because there’s no way we could personally afford to review all these products giving free advertisements for these companies. I’ve had some high-level companies sending me blades left and right but none from Coldsteel which is why I’ll be pulling away from their knives. I have also reviewed so many other products from them. Some of these companies don’t want to invest in the little guy. The problem is the little guy grows up and so does his brand. But now this was not an attempt to attack them because I could just come out and blast them openly if I wanted to, but I never did until this issue came up.
@@411Outdoors I would have preferred it if you just came out with your issues of Cold Steel as a company. It just appears (to me) that there is some “sour apples” associated with your current position on their knives. Your first complaint video was overly aggressive where you criticized the handle and the blade while your second one has walked it back a bit based on your followers responses. I guarantee that any knife can be pushed beyond its limits if desired.
Good video. I applaud you for your honesty. I'm a subscriber to this channel because of your honesty and how you review different priced blades. I bought an Odenwolf (Orange) because of your review and I carry it often. Some of us aren't fortunate enough to live out in the country and have access to the woods you do. This makes your reviews even more valuable in my, not so humble opinion..:) Keep up the great work...:)
Great followup video. I was wishing you showed the results in the last one as well just so we could see it. It is amazing how quickly it got loose. Don't know what the other blades looked like, but for me, I always look at the "what can I turn into a spear" aspect. I know this might take extra time, but you might want to go back to your original videos (SRK / Tanto) and add an 'Update, here's the link' and link these 2 videos to those. This way if someone just finds those vids they get your whole picture on them.
Great video. I haven't loosened up the handles on my several SRKs but can see it happening some day. I'll glue them once they loosen. I'll be waiting on the alternative video. Thanks for sharing.
I really do like these knives. I’m going to work with apozy a little bit more. And see if I can tighten. I don’t think I went down far enough last time. I’m with Legion Tacticool Cutlery in the fact that I think there should be at least two rivets.
I’m not seeing anything that any other knife wouldn’t have. Just like with a folder if it gets loose you tighten it. All this takes is epoxy this has been a known thing for 20years. The Mtech 151 has the same issue. It also has the no vibration because of the handle. Things are only a issue if you make it a issue. I’ve seen wood crack , G10 break. I don’t believe anything is indestructible. The real question is how easy can it be fixed? When I was taught survival everyone carried a lockback. Belt knives are nice but when something happens it’s usually unplanned. So it’s what you carry everyday. If you had all your gear is it really a survival situation? The SRK has stood the test of time. Probably carried as much as any other war knife. I got mine in 1991 when I was going to RIP Ranger indoctrination program (the old name) back then ranger school had Benning,Florida mountains and desert. Fun times. Almost everyone had a SRK, recon tanto, or a buck 110. Some where wilderness survival turned into bushcarft an survival an tactical became things. It’s all marketing. Survival is skills you don’t need indestructible you need capable. The BK 2 is pushed as a survival knife it’s not a very good one for real survival tasks. Just my opinion form my experience over many years in some bad places.
The SRK is a cool blade. Just over praised in my honest opinion. That being said, everyone uses a knife differently. This test was mainly to show that the handles really are volatile when beat up a little. One of the things that inspired this series more than anything was that I was looking into buying a San Mai SRK, until I saw it get loose on a bush craft task on a video test on TH-cam. I don’t really wanna have to fool with apoxy and all that kind of stuff but I’m bald people are able to use to reset the handle. I wish they would reconstruct to handle do something similar as the Strongarm.
@@411Outdoors the thing about the SRK is there are so many models. The ones made by Camillus are on another level. Then their is the Japanese AUS8 they were incredible also. But they were much more expensive. I believe what really holds the SRK to a cult like following is the price. I mean really for $35-40 not many knives come close to SRK. Especially nowadays when everything is overpriced. That’s why I’ve used coldsteel tools that were affordable and very capable. Just curious what would you recommend over a SRK that cost $35. I just bought the C model it the perfect size for a bait knife our game knife. That would be very capable if I needed it. Also the SRK-C doesn’t have the hollow grind. It’s also thinner.
Rad video Daniel! I've thought about buying one of these for a while now. Hey how has that Grandway knife that you like throwing held up? Mines still in great condition.
Thanks bro! I snapped my bigger one but it held up to so much abuse. My other smaller one is still trucking. They discontinued that bigger one I liked and I was really disappointed
I'm calling BS on the detractors. You use the tools to the extent of their intended purposes. And you give an honest assessment of function and limitations. What more could they ask for? How it holds up in an atomic bomb? 😂
Joe X does atomic bomb testing. People don’t wanna admit that these handles cant take much. This thing is marketed as a hard-core, Bushcraft, tactical knife. The bottom line is this: a thick tang knife with scales would not respond like this. Knives in this category have to be somewhat limitless. If people want limits that’s fine. I really don’t. I need to be able to throw, chop and do hard things.
The truth is in the putting! Keep in mind that the knife DID NOT BREAK. THE STEEL IS GOOD, but the overall construct IS NOT. AN ADDITIONAL RIVET IN THE HANDLE IS ALL THAT'S NEEDED! Great review, bruh!😮
No. The condor kephart is very thin and at I'd say more robust due to construction. The esee pr4 is more robust and yet thinner. It's the construction of the knife. These knives I mentioned only have blades of 4.5 inches. The srk is shit. The esee 4 is more robust. Hell, the rat 3 is. A knife that's 6 inches should be able to take that. I get that you don't do this to your knives unless you need to but I shouldn't have to worry about it falling apart if I needed to use it that way. Gear is no joke
I own gerber strong arm and Srk I said to my other you tuber comment I like the strong arm due to US made I also like to throw my knife I have problem getting the Srk to stick but I didn’t abuse it like you did. This is awesome video and thank you for being honest.
My SRK is American made, Carbon V steel. Just sayin'. I'm also a Gerber fan. I never got into the Strong Arm, but have American made versions of the Freeman knives, folder and caper, and have been carrying and using the American made Sportsman folders since the late 70s.
Okay, the handle did get loose. But, since I will never use the knife to throw, or chop wood. I think mine will last a very long time. I have tomahawks to chop wood and throw :)
I'm new to your channel. Like your knife reviews! I have this knife so I'm sure after some hard use the handle will come loose. When it does I will get rid of snap at the lanyard hole, pull the handle off, put some real strong apoxy on the tang, put the handle back on and put an open stainless steel snap (stronger) on the lanyard hole and it will never come loose again I guarantee it! You are right though! Cold steel could have spent a few more pennies made this so this problem would not have happened! Otherwise I believe the blade to be High Quality! Thanks for the Great Review! Kenneth Smith.
I just cut stuff with mine! All i do is just carry mine around. I have all versions of steel of the srk. Believe this or not the SK-5 Carbon version the budget one is the easiest to sharpen and it stays sharp! Now the 3V and San Mia i just leather strop them to keep them sharp! Like i said, i got the (1) Carbon V, (2) AUS 8, (3)San Mia, (4) VG-1, (5) SK-5 and the (6) 3V and i like the SK-5 budget really because it is simply the easiest to sharpen and its just $45 at the most.
Good review. People shouldn't get butthurt over being shown a short coming in a blade. Maybe Cold Steel, whose products I love, with take this review to heart and make corrections.
So, the other week, you made a video asking us what pieces of gear we thought were so good that we had to buy a spare. Well, yesterday, my cs Sr1 light clip point came in the mail to accompany my tanto version. I'd love to see you throw the clip point. I would jb weld the screws in, and I am almost sure it could withstand 100 throws.
Great video! You just saved me from purchasing one. Hypothetically, if you had to choose between this knife and the Nedfoss Black Phoenix for survival, which would you choose?
Seems to be a function of the newer models. Never had my carbon v or vg1 handled trailmaster or recon tanto loosen up after countless batoning, chopping etc.
Thanks for showing this! This might be an issue with this new sk 5 model. People where abusing the older Aus8 model and didn't had this issue.. cold steel needs to fix it, especially on the most expensive models like the 3v wich i just bought, i have am sk5 model too but it had normal use so far and the handle is ok, now i hope the 3v i bought to be reliable...
definitely they ve got some problems with handles, mine leatherneck tanto handle guard is rattling almost after no use. but still I keep it for the collection and great look otherwise I would send it back.
I understand the honesty about this limitation of the srk. On the other hand, I did not buy the knife to abuse it. I have owned aircraft, cars, horses, guns, compound bows and I understood upon purchasing them that abuse is not only wasteful but voids any sane warranty. I won't belabor this point but I promise anyone viewing that a knife that is impervious to me wilfully destroying it has not been invented yet and never will be. If ya got one ya like, send it - 15 mins and I can send it back to ya in peices. I'll find a way. These are NOT made for throwing! I could quickly destroy my new Festool TS55 if I decided to do so but why would I? They are $450.00 but still built of plastic. Running over it with my f150 is outside its design limitations. I just never got bending a knife sideways. Who really does that? Thank you for letting me vent. Usually I am only right about 10% of the time so theres that. //ji
Aren't the moras a mid shank molded handle like that ? I had a mora companion. Great knife. I batoned with it, skined game and fish ,did a lot of carving with it and the handle never got lose. I lost it trailblazing some really thick stuff in the wilderness. I've owned a couple of cold steel knives and spears. I've liked them all but never this model.
The Mora companions have a similar set up that’s right. For some reason they’re more compact and tough. My companion it’s kind of like a mid to light duty worker
This was a good demonstration of how to loosen the overmolded grip of the srk. Just drop some silicone adhesive where it came loose, or just stay within the limitations of this type of knife. If you want a similar size CS knife, but without these limitations, step up to the AK47.
Was thinking about buying the 3V variant of this knife to put in a Bugout bag in my car, but after seeing this, I might go with the Drop-Forged Survivalist knife. Have you tested that one yet?
For me would be just the perfect ecxuse to make a new handle. Sweeettt. the hollow grind thoo, is it very pronounced???? I hate hollow grind but will tolerate if its not too exagerated
I agree. The rubber is too soft. Not a problem on the Master Hunter and it wasn't a real problem on the Search & Rescue Knife either. But the people started changing the name into Survival & Rescue Knife and expecting stuff basically unrealistic for the way it's build. Cold Steel could have adjusted to these new expactations. I still like the knife and I have one but it's not a hard use knife in any way. It's a compromise.
I am actually a bit surprised the tip on the SRK held up as well as it did. The hollow ground SK5 versions are notorious for snapping the tips under hard use. That said, I know for a fact that the Recon Tanto will hold up just fine battoning and chopping for years. I have owned them for years. Now, as I said before I don't throw my knives-any of them-I was taught not to. Other people do and that isn't a problem, but NO ONE throws mine. That said I respect your opinion, as you already knew and none of my previous comments were ment to detract and if they were taken as an attack please understand they were not intended as such.
I understand you, but you do agree that a knife use might be to throw it, right? Even in an extreme case of self defense. And Hollywood is full of knife throws. So saying "oh well that knife is not made for throwing, you should get those ugly ass circus knives" is silly.
how much time does it take you to make those throwing footages considering that you have to go back and forth from the target and start filming so many times
I never thought it this way. I've been watching guys on TH-cam reviewing blades by cutting cardboard, their leg's hair, rope... What a useless review lol. Now I watch you and Joe X.
I really appreciate you spending your hard earned money buying this, just to prove for us the truth about these knives.. Great video my friend,, 🔪🔪🔪 ps, the clue is in the name,, if it's called a SRK, then it should be able to withstand most situations.. 👍
Well I had a srk back in the late 90s I used it once on a deer new factory edge went dull half way through and it was so hard on the heat treatnothing I had would touch it
I never beat the xhit out of my srk. It's in mint condition. I decided to sell it. It's not a dependable survival knife with that hollow grind and handle. You could Paracord wrap it but that would look ridiculous. The cold steel drop forged hunter is a companion knife built like a tank.
I when I bought my recon tanto I was sooo pumped I loved it sooo much of was the best blade ever created from the feel the size and everything then I threw it 4 times unfortunately I missed all 4 and the 4th throw it really broke in half.. the blade snapped off of the handle I was just deviated.. if they make those knifes full tang I would buy em at any price especially the recon tanto.. I can't find no full tang tanto blade tho for some reason mabey that's just not a thing but if there were.. I might have to learn how to make my own ig😂😂
It doesnt bother me too much. I kind of expect it with almost all of em if I start throwing them & if they dont then all the better. If they do, I just make a nee handle & repair it. D For the price its still a decent blade.
That’s a great shame as I enjoyed and shared the excitement of the SRK and ordered one recently. I guess it’s part and parcel of what you expect. The SRK is a great value for money knife but if you try to find a fault then you will find it eventually. If you bought a Cold steel Natchez or Laredo and paid hundreds of dollars for it you would still come across the same problem because they say that’s not what it’s built for. But they have stood the test of time throughout history for years because they were dependable if looked after. You should buy a forge and start making knives bro full tang throw resistant 411
What do you expect from a knife not designed to throw? The flared brass ferrule going through the handle is getting the shit beat out of it, that's the most likely reason the handle is loosening up.
Precisely why I’m telling everybody to quit marketing this as a beat to death survival knife like they do on TH-cam. It doesn’t just fail and throwing it fails in chopping.
In some ways but honestly, I think these are a little bit worse than some of the others. You wouldn’t see this happen to a KaBar or Mora. I wouldn’t think.
@@411Outdoors why not test them the same way and find out? I can’t speak of the Mora but I have a KaBar with a loose handle from use with no throwing involved.
@@Microbc the only K bar I ever had was the fighting tanto knife and it never got loose from all the throws. I sold it. Mora companions are very light but your Garberg, is overmolded but the tang inside is thicker and tighter. Another reason I wanted to do this is because I saw a guy testing a San Mai SRK and it got loose on bushcrafting. That’s why I didn’t buy it even though I wanted to. I just believe the SRK is especially terrible for this. I know a lot of people are fans, but I just can’t get down with it. I don’t dislike over mold. I just think that one has a lot of potential for error.
I really do like the SRK but this video just proves its limits pretty quick. One guy in the comments recently was telling me how foolish I was to treat the knife this way, but I was trying to show how quick the handle could go south. Held in hand and used for mediocre tasks, It’s fine.
@@411Outdoors I do like the srk as well just never seen the handle fail on one till now. I am very surprised by that. If you get a chance check out survival Lilly her 2 year review hard review of the srk very impressive.
Oh man, I don't like them mora knives. They look awful, and they all look the same. So if you don't like the design, you won't find one you like. Also why the short blade?
Excellent and true video! That's exactly what happened to my Recon Tanto SK5, and even worse! Handle loosened after I properly, using ordinary strength of my swings, choped two branches of dead and dry pine tree. I simply couldn't believe when I realised that the handle is loosen. Very poor quality and far overrated brand.
I hate throwing knives as much as I hate throwing knives. If I have to throw my knife then there’s a chance I will lose it. That’s not a good plan in my opinion.
Knife throwing destroys a knife that’s for sure. it’s really just fun if you’re good at it. That being said, I understand the SRKS limits. If one stays away from throwing and heavy chopping, they’ll be OK but for all the torture testers on TH-cam, throwing is the worst form
My SRK is American made, Carbon V steel. I've never been tempted to throw it or chop with it, but I've used it since the late 80s for cutting, slicing and some limited woods craft with no ill results. I appreciate your content and glad you share your experiences. It's important to know that "if you do this, these could be your results". This video confuses the issue though. It's full of glowing praise with just a bit of a caveat of what could happen throwing of chopping, though the knife came out fine after your review of these exact uses. th-cam.com/video/EC3pEAJnlr8/w-d-xo.html
Well said and much appreciated my friend I like the SRK it’s beautiful and it handles very well. A really good combat knife. I just wouldn’t recommend it to anybody doing hard survival task.
Sorry but these knives SRK it's not a throwing knife throwing knife do not have molded handles.. you're using a knife for what it was not meant for.. in fact former president of Cold steel Lynn Thompson states that there's hardly ever a reason to baton a knife especially if it's your only knife you have on you in the woods.... It's not like the handle came off! . I've used my srk in San mai lll.. Never have I had the handle come loose through normal use even rough use I think you're being a little over judgmental of this knife!
I like the SRK, but a lot of TH-camrs presented into it like it was indestructible. If you pierce and slice, it’s fine. It is often presented as the toughest. Not true. The Gerber Strongarm is one of the toughest. The SRK is cool within reason
I've looked at the cold steel site and most are way expensive. Even the blowgun darts are outrageous. Well to me they are. But it looks like good stuff tho. I'm just a po boy is all and have expensive interests having a family. I checked out those odenwolf blades and they look to be good. Oh in my opinion buck knives are overpriced junk and that's by experience
@@411Outdoors There's those people who " I love Buck knives"."I love my Buck knife". My reply is " You never use your knife do you?". 🤣 . Think I stirred up a bees nest ? 🤣
Thanks SRK is not for me. The simple design is great but they need to have full tang and handle needs to be secure .I would pay extra if they changed design.
I get that 👍 but I guess my point is all these knife torture testers on TH-cam haven’t tortured anything until they have thrown it. This knife is great for slicing piercing but not even chopping is good for it. It’s ergonomic but volitale
Nobody, and I mean nobody but fools use their knife like that. 1st you use throwing knives that are designed for throwing. If you notice, throwing knives rarely have handle materials. Also in combat, you never throw your weapon to the enemy, NEVER! There is zero use to throw a knife unless you are bloody circus clown performer! 2nd when hunting or bushcrafting or use in military situations, no one uses knives like that. I've had an srk carbon V for over 30 years of use. It's literally been to hell and back from desert to tundra, and she is still good to go other than the finish. You testing is rather invalid.
Bottom line is this. I loosened this handle pretty easily. I did it in one video. Whether a knife is meant for throwing or not you should be able to at least throw it a little bit. In combat you can do anything you want to. You may or may not be successful. Yes, I have known men who have been in deeper waters than any of us combatively who practice this art. No throwing transcended the circus a long time ago. This video obviously offended you, but rarely do I call anybody a fool over an issue like this. This knife is marketed to be tougher than it is. That being said: if you’re just cutting or piercing, it’s fine. I actually like the SRK as a whole. I do wish this tang was different. A lot of what you say about how no one will use a knife in a certain way is very subjective and I don’t think it’s wise to be with so passionate about it. That’s just me.
As far as I know from what I have read and military people I have talked to it it is just stupid in the real world circumstances to throw your knife away. Now what? I understand destruction tests to a point like when they crash a car into a wall. But a car has a very different functtion that have real imp[ications in failure. I'm never throwing my knife in the field or doing anything like that in the field. Not if I'm bushcrafting. There is a way to chop with knives like this but only in extreme emergencies. You only wanted to try to to destroy it. Have you done a review for its effectiveness in the field, bushcrafting. If not you're just indulging in knfe porn. /
To answer your question yes, I have reviewed this and gave it a positive review on reasonable task. My argument is that it can be loosened pretty easily. That is all. I like the SRK. I’m not sure why this bothered people so much. It’s simple: if you don’t use it hard it’s fine. But it’s not extremely tough as far as the handle is concerned. I work with a lot of fixed blades and you can throw any of them as long as the handle is not over molded.
Wanna throw a knife, buy a throwing knife. I get what you're tryn to show here but come on- I mean I can tear up anything if I try hard enough. At the end of the day it's just a $40 dollar knife.
That’s exactly right. When used for slicing or piercing it’s a great knife but it’s just not as tough and durable as everyone said. Granted, I’ve got plenty of these types of knives that are truly full tang that I can throw all day. I still like this knife. I just recognize its limits now.
why would you use a knife to chop down a tree which you could far easier and faster just use leverage to break down or do a split cut on it??? Throwing a survival/combat knife is such a stupid idea in the real world. If you're just interested in torture testing knives, then I guess it's a thing... but in a combat or survival situation you wouldn't ever throw away your tool/weapon and risk loss or avoidable damage to it. It's like the dummies who say they test a knife's ability to be strapped to a pole & used for a spear to be thrown. Uh... why would you throw your knife-spear when you could just use the knife to carve a sharp spear that doesn't matter if it gets lost/wrecked??? If you want to have a throwing knife - buy a freaking throwing knife.
Knife throwing is not a primary combative, but it is an awesome skill and a fun skill to have. I happen to be really good at it and I’m not trying to sound cocky. No one should throw their only knife, but that doesn’t negate the skill. That being said, I’ve heard way too much about how tough this knife is and most average dudes take it in the woods. Regardless of whether the way they use it is relevant or not. People are asking questions and content like mine shows you everything. The handle on this knife sucks even though I like the knife . It’s simply a very limited knife. I do like its look and feel. I can beat the living daylights out of your average full tang knife. at the end of the day it’s only $40 but it’s praised way too much
@@411Outdoors odd that the SEAL teams issue it... also; knife throwing is a game and a trick skill; not a real-world practical skill. Most people take this knife into the woods hiking or camping and use it for ... knife tasks, which it apparently does well at. Not a true bushcraft knife but works. At the end of the day, for $40 you get a lot of value for the price for a factory-super sharp blade made of decent steel that can take a lot of normal use.
The OLDER model CSTM, CSGK and CSSRK, and CSRS used a different material for the handle, a harder rubber one piece design. They have since moved to a different material that is IME not as durable
I believe you. My question is how many times did you throw it? Survival billy never loosened her SRK. 🤣 JoeX is the man! It appears that throwing and heavy chopping and torquing of the handle causes the griv-X loosening.
I think, like JoeX's videos, your's is great information. I have alot of Coldsteel knives and I find no butthurt from your results. If anything you just informed me on what I can or cannot do with my SRK/Recon Tanto! You and JoeX are doing the knife community a great service! Thanks for putting in the effort!
That's an explicit hardcore testing there , sad to see the tang handle didn't hold up, that's why full tang knives are always worth, when you are lost in the woods they will start chopping wood with even a small knife available with them in that situation. If you remember same case happened with the Rambo tactical knife after testing it by many users in their videos .. the handle just came off the blade as it was not a full tang knife and rather a gimmick model being sold as original one.
I feel like cold steel would appreciate your honest review. If I owned cold steel I sure would and would fix that problem immediately. Great video!
Thanks so much!
The lined lanyard hole, does go through the tang. So that is actually why the handle has not come off completely.
Yes, maybe needs a couple more through the other part of the grip to eliminate the issue
If you have to “fix” a new knife, that kinda defeats the purpose, don’t it?
@@joeybossolo7 I suppose it's more of an enhancement or modification
I just ordered the 3V version can't wait for it. Your video helped me make my choice. Thank you.
Mine has loosened after light Bushcraft, chopping brush, light baton, still got a wiggle.just saying.
Good video. I applaud you for your honesty. I'm a subscriber to this channel because of your honesty and how you review different priced blades. I bought an Odenwolf (Orange) because of your review and I carry it often. Some of us aren't fortunate enough to live out in the country and have access to the woods you do. I appreciate you watching my friend! I tell people all the time I have the best subscribers🙂. That odenwolf knife is awesome.
That’s a great recommendation!👍
Great honest video! Much appreciated! Keep up the good work! 🤘🏽
Thank you!
@@brnrecluse2946 thanks bro!
You can destroy a anvil if you try hard enough and miss use it.
Would you go as far as to say you would trust the tri ad locking folders more than these for throwing purposes?
I’ll have to look those up but probably so
Tri ad is awesome.
Thanks for the reviews brother 👍 keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching my friend!
Absolutely my friend 🙂👍it’s all about how far you wanna push it
I'm new to your channel.
Thank you my friend!
I've been wondering about the SRK....Thanks brother. I've got a lot of Cold Steel knives, but might pass on this one😊
I’ll be reviewing one that is a great alternative to it this upcoming week. Always a pleasure brother.
Looking forward to it as always😊
Yeah, same here. It looks cool, too bad
@@perrywaaz3660 I’ll be doing a review this week on what I believe to be as a good alternative
@@411Outdoors Yeah, I think you mentioned that at the end of the video. I can't wait to see it!
It’s a great night if you don’t put it through too much strain. I really do love the design.
That's a good honest review.
I’m very glad for this review I had an SRK on order and after watching your review I just canceled it. Thanks again.
Anytime! It’s a good knife for slicing and doing certain task but if you’re looking for something to beat up, I wouldn’t get this
I have the SRK in CPM3V, AUS8A, and VG10. All 3 are great, the CPM3V one is a great Value and I'm sure would serve you well in any situation.
If putting in a second rivet where would be best, do you think?
Absolutely 👍 that would enable for some more chopping
Thanks for the honest review ! Like the SRK but has it's limits !
@@wtpence4731 definitely👍 it’s beautiful for slicing and piercing
Great video! You just saved me from purchasing one. Hypothetically, if you had to choose between this knife and the Nedfoss Black Phoenix for survival, which would you choose?
The Ned Foss Knife 👍👍 . I still like the SRK. It seems like mostly a combat knife to me or just a good cutting knife.
I saw a video of a guy chopping pretty hard and it loosened his handle a little bit
definitely they ve got some problems with handles, mine leatherneck tanto handle guard is rattling almost after no use. but still I keep it for the collection and great look otherwise I would send it back.
//ji
I love the SRK. If kept within its limits, it does awesome. I made peace with it lol
Ya got a great channel. Don't stop. //ji
Removable handle scales are best so you can clean and remove moisture. I can imagine that rust would easily form under that handle
Very well said my friend
I know you're focused on the blade in this video, but let me ask: why no lefty work?
You’re right I was just focusing on the blade integrity for this video, but I do train both hands👍
My 2 cold steel srk knives also had handle failures . I've contacted them... let's see if they respond???????😢
Was thinking about buying the 3V variant of this knife to put in a Bugout bag in my car, but after seeing this, I might go with the Drop-Forged Survivalist knife. Have you tested that one yet?
Not yet. This is a great knife but the handle is volatile for extreme task. For slicing and piercing it’s great.
For me would be just the perfect ecxuse to make a new handle. Sweeettt. the hollow grind thoo, is it very pronounced???? I hate hollow grind but will tolerate if its not too exagerated
Subbed. Good stuff, man!
Thank you!
Oh absolutely my friend. I’m glad we can talk through these kinds of experiments. No offense taken my friend🙂
I understand you, but you do agree that a knife use might be to throw it, right? Even in an extreme case of self defense. And Hollywood is full of knife throws. So saying "oh well that knife is not made for throwing, you should get those ugly ass circus knives" is silly.
You’re absolutely right, some people just can’t stand it.
I like knowing that if one day I get the knife throwing bug, I'll already know to leave my kryton handled Cold Steels behind
how much time does it take you to make those throwing footages considering that you have to go back and forth from the target and start filming so many times
It’s pretty quick, I just like to edit out the dead spaces so it cuts down on the time and keeps it flowing
Greetings! True budget knife. You get what you pay for! Hands, still a good tool. Thank you for the review. Ous!
,
Great job on the video, I was going to buy one..👍👍👍
Thanks my friend I’ll be dropping something that’s a good alternative to this this upcoming week
I never thought it this way. I've been watching guys on TH-cam reviewing blades by cutting cardboard, their leg's hair, rope... What a useless review lol. Now I watch you and Joe X.
Awesome! 😂👊
I really appreciate you spending your hard earned money buying this, just to prove for us the truth about these knives.. Great video my friend,, 🔪🔪🔪
ps, the clue is in the name,, if it's called a SRK, then it should be able to withstand most situations.. 👍
My pleasure! And yep it’s fine up to a certain point 🙂👍. Definitely wouldn’t have a hard time against soft tissue if you know what I mean haha
The cold steel drop forged hunter is a companion knife built like a tank.
yeah...i got a kobun around here somewhere thats seen "hard use" as a letter opener and...? you guessed it....
Great review, period!
🙂👊
Get a hatchet for chopping, Fiscars is a great brand of hatchet and axe.
Exactly👍 💯
Thanks for this review. I know what to look out for 👍🔪🗡️⚔️.
Still gonna buy Cold Steel knives lol.
Oh I love Cold Steel👍👍 the handle on this one just bothers me a little bit
@@411Outdoors It gives me an excuse to get several backups for my Recon Tanto and SRK lol.
Yup! Loved it first impression. Learned a big lesson with these things. Not ashamed to admit it
its 2023 not sure why they dont make fulltang srks at this point get with the times coldsteel
💯👍👍
I gave that blade way less of a stress test.cutting light brush, baton, etc.,and I have a wiggle.
Thank you so much for sharing. I have gotten so much heat for this video. Lol.
Also had the same problem with the Takedown zombie machete.great blade, bad molded handle.
It doesnt bother me too much. I kind of expect it with almost all of em if I start throwing them & if they dont then all the better. If they do, I just make a nee handle & repair it. D
For the price its still a decent blade.
Definitely and not everyone needs to beat theirs up
That’s a great shame as I enjoyed and shared the excitement of the SRK and ordered one recently.
Are all overmolded knives like this?
New subscriber here. Well done sir.
Welcome aboard! Thank you!
I notice this with my Ontario Sp1
Yep👍
Good reviews check out Spartan blades there knives are top notch made in USA
Very good knives
This is why these companies should give the knives to the professionals first such as here. I’d rather the tip would break than the handle ❤
Definitely my friend! Would be easier to fix that’s for sure
GSM might be getting a little to cheap maybe. Boy i don't think if lynn Thompson still owned the company this would not be like this.
I think you could throw a Mora Garberg all day long without a problem. Those things are solid.
I’ll keep my SRK & Recon tanto for buttering my toast.😉
😂😂😂💯
Oh man, I don't like them mora knives. They look awful, and they all look the same. So if you don't like the design, you won't find one you like. Also why the short blade?
Bettet get a cold steel leather neck like i did it is a beast awesome chopper tough.
I didn't even Joe-X these things!! lol Great Example.
Glad you enjoyed! 😂🙂👍
all OKC SP are overmolded, i never hear a cry about loosing handles.
They’re very heavy duty👍
Excellent and true video! That's exactly what happened to my Recon Tanto SK5, and even worse! Handle loosened after I properly, using ordinary strength of my swings, choped two branches of dead and dry pine tree. I simply couldn't believe when I realised that the handle is loosen. Very poor quality and far overrated brand.
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
I don’t know what these test are supposed to prove. It’s a combat utility knive.
Right. Don’t chop with it in the bush or throw it for fun. Weak handle
If it comes loose fill the gaps with araldite
Good tip
I hate throwing knives as much as I hate throwing knives. If I have to throw my knife then there’s a chance I will lose it. That’s not a good plan in my opinion.
Knife throwing destroys a knife that’s for sure. it’s really just fun if you’re good at it. That being said, I understand the SRKS limits. If one stays away from throwing and heavy chopping, they’ll be OK but for all the torture testers on TH-cam, throwing is the worst form
@@411Outdoors I had some so called throwing knives many years ago. I guess I never developed enough skill to enjoy it. Thank you for the reply.
Taiwanese/China knife. There are better options with a sturdy handle. Thanks for the review.
A pro throwing knife is expensive, only a bad ass combat knife will fill the spot for under 70$
My SRK is American made, Carbon V steel.
You took it to the limit..cold steeled came up short..😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha!! SRK is a cool knife. But I definitely wanted to show its limits
I'm glad I only paid $3 for my brand new..
I bought this knife and the San Mai SRK as well.😞..
Oh well, but at least I bought them for $10 each
I've looked at the cold steel site and most are way expensive. Even the blowgun darts are outrageous. Well to me they are. But it looks like good stuff tho. I'm just a po boy is all and have expensive interests having a family. I checked out those odenwolf blades and they look to be good. Thanks SRK is not for me. The simple design is great but they need to have full tang and handle needs to be secure .I would pay extra if they changed design.
Exactly👍
It's really kinda simple--don't throw knives that aren't made for throwing lol
I get that 👍 but I guess my point is all these knife torture testers on TH-cam haven’t tortured anything until they have thrown it. This knife is great for slicing piercing but not even chopping is good for it. It’s ergonomic but volitale
It isn't a throwing knife. Jesus.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Boss man
Nobody, and I mean nobody but fools use their knife like that.
Cut your losses by selling us your used knives. Seriously 😁
B O O H O O
Yeah for sure haha. No throwing, no chopping and you’re good. Good knife for all else
🇺🇸😁👍
why would you use a knife to chop down a tree which you could far easier and faster just use leverage to break down or do a split cut on it???
JoeX is the man! It appears that throwing and heavy chopping and torquing of the handle causes the griv-X loosening.
🤣 Survival Billy lol. Just a handful of misses and it’s slightly compromised. You’re exactly right👍👍
I think, like JoeX's videos, your's is great information.
💯 well said my friend
