When I first started watching TH-cam videos to learn how to coupon I had watched for a solid week and one night I came across one of your videos explaining CVS couponing I had watched countless others mind you, but when you explained it..it clicked in my head and I have been couponing ever since. That was September of last year. I just wanted to thank you your awesome!! 😉 I've made many mistakes but that's how you learn.
Awh Teri, this comment literally made my day! Such a lovely thoughtful message that I truly appreciate. Its wonderful to know that my videos have made an impact on at least someone. I do try to make my videos quite informative, although I can see how sometimes this can come across as very long winded, I do think it helps to explain fully the reasons behind why we do certain things as couponers! Have a wonderful evening
WOW! Just became a subscriber and have been enjoying your videos immensely! Thank you Stephanie....It has been fun watching you open the Michael's boxes and now, coming upon this video, has been informative and great!!...Keep up the wonderful videos and yes I would like to see more about this! 😊
It's not really a secret at all, trust me, corporate knows, and alot of corporate employees are in various penny groups to monitor what's going on.. If you find penny items, you are supposed to be able to buy them, nobody should deny you a sale. But, I seen a comment that said the item in question rang up for a penny at another store, but it rang full price at the store you were at, and the employee did a price adjustment to a penny, that's when the employee can get in trouble.
what are the upc codes for the coffee . great hall Stephanie! Note we are not sneaking or doing anything wrong, corporate sets discontinued items to ring up as an alert for the cashiers simply to notify the cashier that some items have been missed that were to be removed.. generally they will only ring up what you have in your cart though and not allow you to go back to get more. Many stores use this penny pricing process as a means to help cashiers be notified so they can find missed items and remove them, that is all, not all of them allow public to purchase them. ... shop happy and don't feel like you are doing something wrong. :)) just not speaking to them about it so they don't remove them before you get a chance to get them in your cart. that is the only reason. not because you are doing something wrong .. :))
Hi Stephanie, came across ur video by accident, and subscribed...Came bk to this video so I can learn more, we have 1 DG,but a town we go to alot has 4 DG 's.I understand about the blue/purple star,.. but not bout the ups code,..I checked Facebook for the penny groups,.there are quite afew of them,.do you know if the Family Dollar store has penny items like DG has,..,....thank you for your video's,.God Bless
Thanks for watching Debbie and stopping by my channel. Its a pleasure to have you here. I am not sure about the Family Dollar, I haven't heard anything about it though so don't count me on that one. I will do further videos to explain more in detail about locating other items that do not have a specific colored symbol. Generally the social media groups that specialize in penny finding will release a list. Some of the items on the weekly list may be more generalized like the 'blue star toys' and 'purple star home' and there may of course be some exceptions. Then there may be branded products, food items etc that do not have the DG colored symbols on them. In that particular case the penny list might specify the product and quantity/size etc. and it may say that products ending with the UPC code of 4858 (for example) should be penny items. So when you go into the store you can locate the general products, examine to see whether the product matches the description, size and quantity on the penny list, and then to further confirm you would want to check the UPC code to see if it matches. A lot of products may look very similar and thats why you have to make sure your checking several things to ensure accuracy. I am happy to do another video explaining this in more depth with greater examples. I was going to include more examples in this video but because it was a general overview I edited some of them out otherwise the video would have been an hour long haha!
Yes I totally understand Clarice and will do so in my future videos. This was just a general overview so I didn't want to add a lot of extra time on going into too much detail but I appreciate your feedback and will definitely work those into my future videos
I found penny items the first day I went out looking and I can only remember one store trip not finding anything for the most part I found 10 items or more Everytime I love it great video oh thought I mentioned I found out 2 Nd week of October and been penny shopping ever since
I used to work at books a million and our bargin books would regularly go down to 0.02 but unfortunately our company policy was we had to price change the item back to the lowest sale price found on the book but of you had employees like me I didnt care and sold many books for 2 cents. We have clearance gurneys for non book items and some of those also go to 0.02 but are much more regulated than books because we have a specific person in charge of all non book items that was my job and unfortunately there I had to find as many as possible or it would affect my job title and pay. But were people and I definatly missed a few but when I worked the register I definitely did not care about 2 cent items especially during the holidays I would rather make your shopping experience pleasant and quick than price change multiple items.
Definitely interesting to hear this from an employees point of view. We never want to get to the point where we are interfering with somebodies jobs so that was very informative. Thanks for coming over here to my channel and hanging out Christina! Have a great evening
Yes the space invaders I did purchase for a penny. They didn't give me a hard time surprisingly which is what I was actually expecting because they did require an override. I did actually in this instance tell the employee that in a previous store they had rang up as a penny. She then just did an override for that amount without hesitation... I was expecting a hard time! haha
Yeh I have heard that happening as well, where it isn't ringing up so they just key in the $20 price on the box! I think its just the luck of the draw when it comes to which employee serves you. The fact that she didn't even try to scan it tells me that she probably knew that it was supposed to be ringing up a penny! Sorry to hear that Sarah!
Hi Stephanie! I'm sorry but I still don't understand how we are to know what items are going to be a penny? 🤔 Well other than the star items. Is it possible for you to do weekly videos on the items you find? I do have a friend that works at a Dollar General, do you think they have a list of items that are to be a penny?
inkyimpressions even if there your friend only the manger gets the penny list asking your friend for the penny list is asking her to steal it from management and make a copy she could get fired you never ask any Dg employee about anything that has to do with penny shopping it’s the rule you don’t want them saying that penny shoppers are out of control constantly coming in asking it will make corporate come up with a new way to do things and then we won’t be able to shop no more do research she said add yourself to penny groups and download the app study anything you want you have to work at it it’s up to you to do the work if you really want to do penny shopping it took me hours and days and still researching daily no one in Dg ever handed me a list nor would they we not supposed to tech buy them but in there policy it says if it’s in the floor they have to sell it to us for a penny my advice sorry it was so long
Like I mentioned in the video joining social media groups particularly on Facebook that get ahold of the penny lists is really the only way you are going to have a good chance at getting a reliable source on what the penny lists are from week to week, or whenever they are released!
I know! And I cannot believe I just found out about this. I am not sure how long it is has been a 'thing.' I've been missing out! Have a wonderful day Sandy, its a pleasure to have you over here on my channel!
What an awesome idea! An e-mail list is something that I will definitely bear in mind as my channel grows! I appreciate your support and hope you have a wonderful evening!
Unfortunately Lucy, joining social media groups particularly on Facebook that get ahold of the penny lists is really the only way you are going to have a good chance at getting a reliable source on what the penny lists are from week to week, or whenever they are released!
At the time that you wrote this, yes I did find some of those items the day before, but I also found some a week before that as well. I believe it became known that they pennied out a few weeks ago now and I am still finding them ringing up for a penny. As long as people are still finding them on the sales floor, and other penny shoppers haven't come across them before you then you should still be able to find them - unless of course they roll back to their original price which can happen.
That's what happen to me but the dude just did it automatically. I tried to play it off & say i don't trust that phone please ring up... He wouldn't so i went on. Saidthank you
Welcome to my community, its great to have you here and I hope you find my videos useful! It won't take long before you get the hang of things and you'll be amazed at the deals you'll be able to pickup!
It's not necessarily done like that Dawn, it's not always a specific color or symbol and sometimes we have to work on just UPC codes and how the product looks. I would advise like in the video joining a social media group specifically a Facebook group community that specializes in penny finding. You'll find the most up to date lists getting posted there (I believe these groups get the penny items leaked from employees - something that I can't do!) and there's a lot of help on how to get started!
Wanda, no unfortunately most of the food items I believe do not have symbols on them which is one of the exceptions that I mentioned in the video. That is why its really important to join a good penny finding community on social media so that you can be made aware of exactly the UPC barcodes that fall into the penny category and also what to look out for in terms of the packaging of the product itself.
IT's NOT really a secret !!!! - the Dollar General manual has a whole page about the penny shopping policies - so it's NOT a secret - otherwise they wouldn't have policies and it wouldn't be published in the store manuals !!!
You are exactly right! Thats why I always do 'secret' in quotation marks. How can it be a secret when so many of us know about it and its mentioned in the corporate policy of the DG? I think its referred to as a secret because if we make it known in store that we are specifically only looking for penny items, then it will be highly likely that we will be prevented from doing so, by means of price checking etc.
That's a BIG "If" … I've been to stores where when a manager saw that I was buying a bunch of penny stuff, offered me some of the items that she had already put in the back (it was first after the summer pennies last year) and I've also even been alerted that the Christmas items used as decorations were a penny this particular year (probably so that she knew that I would go aisle by aisle collecting them, in order to buy them, and SHE wouldn't have to do it herself" … SO, it REALLY bothers me people people (especially certain OTHER youtube personality, who tends to yell on video) says that it is a secret and TELLS people NOT to ask employees - making people scared and fearful is NEVER the right choice … while I don't recommend asking - if you are nice and kind and NOT hiding your intentions (especially if you have a good reason for buying the penny items) many times more will be offered … but my pet peeve is people who try to make others afraid or fearful or try to control their freedom of speech … which is wrong (I'm sure you know who the brunette youtube lady I'm talking about is … she spends most of her time cyberbullying and maligning her youtube competition - which I hope never happens to you!)
Cindy! Thanks for watching. Like i mentioned in the video you need to search out a good penny finding community on social media, I suggest on facebook! They usually release the penny lists every week so that you have all in the information you need on the products you need to be looking out for on a weekly basis!
Hi my angel... I shopped at dollar general but spent over 200 usd... I had tons of coupons but they would not aloud more then one coupon or two coupons only ...i don't get it ...where do i find the company policy for the coupons
DG are very strict on coupon usage and I can't count the number of times they will have an issue with perfectly valid coupons. They even tried to refuse one of their own DG paper coupons on cereal they were selling the other day! (video to come where I explain that) here is the link direct to their coupon policy on their website: www2.dollargeneral.com/Customer-Care-Center/pages/coupon-policy.aspx if you have any specific questions do let me know!
Michelle Accardi the coupon policy is a follow you may use up to 5 identical coupons says it in there policy unless coupon has a limit usually say limit one or two per purchase you cannot stack coupons unless one is a dollar general coupon and the other is a paper coupon and may only use one coupon per item they can’t deny sale or use if you follow these guideline when couponing some cashiers will over look what the coupon says and just accept 5 identical coupons for 5 same items if that makes sense but some Dg locations don’t it all depends on the store
Here on long island new york you have limit of 4 same coupons in one transaction so i do separate transactions it only works in shoprite ..you should try that store you would love it
They should still be Karen! I have found some blue star toys even in the past couple of days and they are still ringing for a penny! As long as they don't eventually roll back to their original price you should still be able to find them!

Please tell us where to get a "penny list" each week.
Like I mentioned in the video joining social media groups particularly on Facebook that get ahold of the penny lists is really the only way you are going to have a good chance at getting a reliable source on what the penny lists are from week to week, or whenever they are released!

Awesome!
Thanks for watching Kimberly! Hope that you are having a wonderful evening.
