    The early 390s had reliability problems, hopefully solved now. Most racers are using a Ninja 400 instead, more power from the twin cylinders and more reliable. I would sit on all the choices and have someone with you holding the back end so both your feet are on the pegs, and bounce the back suspension up and down with your weight. One will likely seem better, and break a tie by what dealer is closer for any new bike warranty work.

      They had an engine refresh on their 390's to meet the BS6 requirements. It fixed the engine heat and other issues. So any KTM 390's after 2020 are a lot more reliable than before

    Cool to see quickshifters finally make their way down the product stack to the entry level machines. I imagine it's optional to cut costs and reduce the price, but should really be standard on all bikes in the near future. Along with TPMS, hopefully.

      I usually forget too.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eventually the cost of manufacturing will come down on this technology, and probably be found in low-cc bikes as standard. But I will say, being a low-cc bike in the USA, it's more important that new riders learning riding skills understand how a clutch works and develop RPM/speed/gear matching skills instead of setting-and-forgetting whilst letting the ECU do most of the work. If people need more speed in the 400cc bikes, a quickshifter won't give the bike the equivalent of 650cc acceleration times.

    • @tjey379
      @tjey379 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quick shifter? It is good that you are happy about it BUT! Forgive me, me being from the third world and having failed to buy a KTM recently I would rather that they kept those micro- controllers and the quick shifters out of the bikes that are destined for Africa in favour of price reduction. Or at least make them optional I would prefer good riding gear to a quick shifter.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tjey379 Exactly. At some point there's an engine displacement/horsepower range that just doesn't need traction control, quickshifters, power modes, IMU sensors, TFT displays, or high tech ABS driving up the cost. People getting into small displacement bikes are a much higher population of newer riders and they don't have any perspective on what is good tech vs. what is bad, what is necessary in terms of controls and what is not. They are learning how to operate the controls at their hands and feet, and balance the bike around turns. All the gizmos in the world won't help that, end up costing more, and there is a much higher turnover rate on small displacement bikes than larger ones. Why obsolete the technology in a month by sticking it all over a small bike?

  • @Aerolegic
    @Aerolegic ปีที่แล้ว +42

    There is a big difference in riding position compared to a ninja 400 or R3. I was surprised how sporty the rc390 is and with that the seat height is taller. I’m about 5,9-5,10 and I can just barely tip toe it. Really good value, but the seat and riding position is a make or break point to me.

    Been riding a 2018 RC390 since 2019. Desperately been wanting a 600cc in-line 4 my whole life, obsessed with sport bikes. But I can never pull the trigger on going bigger because I keep telling myself I will stay out of trouble this way, as in with speeding and law enforcement. Witch actually I still very well can get into trouble with the RC390. I can’t afford to lose my license because my job/career is driving. I really love the RC390 so much, but I just want the big boy sound of the in-line 4, I feel like that’s all I’m missing.

    • @cosmic_gate476
      @cosmic_gate476 ปีที่แล้ว

      As someone who was into cars first, never understood biker fascination with the inline 4 - every cheap slow car has one and they don't sound too good imo. If you want a super cool and unique sound, get an inline 3 bike like the street triple 765. It sounds similar to an inline 6 car engine, like a half 2jz (Toyota supra engine)

    This suspension in chassis on this bike, and the looks are incredible I love them I love the trendel frame bikes. I just wish this engine had a little more power to it like accelerated power it needs something like a small rotary engine in it it would be awesome!! I hope that KTM comes out with like a rc64r or something like that or even an RC you know 500 for beginners or whatever either way I believe it needs a little more of but nothing like an R6 or something about the third more power than it has right now I believe would make it the perfect starter bike and still be able to have a little fun if you're someone who's been riding for a while and it's just wanting to get started practicing on the track itself. I believe with about a third more power running to the engine but if you're pushing out more like 70 65 to 75 horses this would be the perfect introduction bike to the track for sure but I think it needs just a little bit more power other than that I think it would be the perfect bike to learn how to ride on the track with.

    its so funny this prevailing attitude that puts a 400 class motorcycle as starter only. 400’s are just motorcycles; its not about ‘learning’, its a great motorcycle to own, full stop, I find them more worthwhile than my bigger bikes lol

    I expressed that some months ago after I had a closeup with the Duke 390 and Duke 200 those bikes look real nice when you get close to them. I recently bought my first 300cC bike ( yes a Chinese bike ) and now I am amazed when someone says that a 300 is a beginner bike, let's just say that I am glad that I started on a 150cC bike, but Yamms when you say 0 to 60 do you mean KM\Hr (since it's an Indian bike )or do you mean Miles \Hr ( since you are American)?

    • @stuartstogdill2406
      @stuartstogdill2406 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @tjey379
      @tjey379 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stuartstogdill2406 exactly but like was discussed on the channel some months ago KTM isn't an Indian brand, but it does give Bajaj the honor of building most of their entry level bikes and me being an African can confidently say ( after owning an Indian bike ) I love bikes that are made in India. It's just that they are so damn expensive nowadays but then again thank GOD that the Chinese are here to the rescue.
