This is one of the most annoying vhs/dvd recorder I have owned in the past. when you record to dvd to finalise the disc it sometimes stops midstream? The issue that says "Please Wait" is usually to do with Capacitors on the main Power Board circuit. Check all the circuits with a multimeter to see which are good and bad ones. Obviously replace the ones if they have "dome Heads" this usually signifies the capactitors are blown.

I HAD THIS PROBLEM NOW, I CANNT PLAY VHS
Same here. U61 pops up and I cannot play a DVD or VHS. I'm led to believe it's a problem with the DVD drive.
