You can buy this setup in any Greek ethnic store. They have a metal wick holder with a cork float. You get about 60 precut and formed wicks. They are church votive lights. They will burn up to 24 hours, but 16 hours is more usual. Buy a set, it is the east way to go. No burnt plastic or fire hazard. If you have a cover for the lamp all the better, a breeze will not blow it out.

Not sure, maybe a church or mortuary supply company. They use these as votive lights on graves also.

Good idea, but shouldn't use the plastic bottle. Once the flame reaches the plastic, it will melt and put toxic fumes in the air. Better to use something metal like the bottom of a can.
Also, how long does it really last? It will go out when the oil is used up...

Perhaps instead of the bottom of the plastic water bottle ppl could use the bottom of a soda can. It wouldn't get hot and possibly melt into the candle. Other than that Great idea! Thanks

@@auroravegodsky9938 How about a canning lid? There is the rubber seal but it is out at the edge so probably wouldn’t matter.
Also, being shiny metal it would act as a reflector and increase the light. I'm not crazy about that plastic bit. It could get hot and melt.

When the oil runs out it will go out, you have to put another oilAccording to the Orthodox tradition, we have a lit candle in the iconostasis of our house as a sacrifice of respect and honor to God, the Virgin Mary and the Saints.
This habit enlightens our souls, but also maintains its deep Christian symbolism. So what does the candle stand for and why should it always be lit? And what is the wish that should accompany its lighting? So the oil symbolizes God's infinite mercy, but also the candles symbolize the Church which is contagious of Divine mercy and illuminating. And as the Lord prayed in the garden of Olives, so the temple with the candlesticks, but also our iconostasis, turns into a new garden of mercy (oil) and divine mercy.

If this oil lamp is unattended, at it's lighted time, then...
Not very safe , incase if that plastic bottle part holding the paper candle flame 🔥 can very easily catch fire, which then can burn the whole room and even the house. So use the heat resisting material of thin metal type of flame supporter.
Plastic is highly flammable and gets very hot. Terrible idea to follow this video.
how would the fire get out of the glass? You would have a larger flame, but burn the whole room?

In a future emergency where power is off for days and your flashlight batteries are dead, you are not allowed to use candles. Some child or animal might knock them over.@@maxbacon4828

I had a lid left over I used it instead of that plastic. O used the plastic first my whole living room smelled of burt plastic. But that small lid I found works great. Now my living room smells like Christmas 😊😊😊😊

You don't need the pebbles and water. The plastic lid will smell like plastic after a while, there are better alternatives. Also, rolled up piece of cotton cloth works much better than paper towel or toilet paper

@@mochapella I use a tuna tin can lid. Make a hole in the center with a nail. Feed a 6cm. rolled up piece of cotton cloth through the hole. Leave only 1cm. for the burning wick. Place 4 toothpicks on top of the oil in the form of a square (I use olive oil). The toothpicks will make the tin lid float. Place the tin lid on top of the toothpicks. Wait 10 minutes for the cloth to absorb the oil, then light the wick. After a few days you may need to pull another 1 centimetre of cloth upward for the wick

It's not a forever candle......unless you keep adding oil when needed it will go out....also he didn't do what he was saying...he did not fully cover the glass beads with water.....Use a glass candle holder and a bottom of a soda can instead of all that plastic....

Also make sure there's enough water in there to act like a buffer. I don't think you need much but you do want some.

How will it last forever when the oil dries down? How do you handle the harden soot of the wick which prevents it from lighting up?
To make it last forever, you have to use a special oil rendered from the fat of boiled unicorns. Also, it does not burn the wick down, nor produce soot and it smells like jellybeans for 5 square km

Depend how much water and oil is in the biggest jar you can find it can last two weeks or more I used a BIG empty pickle jar it lasted about a month, with bergamot and Vetiver. Smells lovely, if I’m going out o blow it out though never leave a candle lite on its own or with cHoldern and animals

Olive oil, cooking oil and the like has a high flashpoint and won't remain lit if the candle is knocked over. And by the logic that the water puts out and oil fire 😂😂😂. I don't think you should be around any flame.

Lo bueno del aceite es que no deja tanto olor como el Kerosine. Y donde no hay luz eléctrica o las velas son caras puede ser funcional. Esa luz encendida es común en velorios de difuntos en algunos países.
El dura para siempre😢...... es mientras le pongas el aceite y reacomodes la mecha. La base se plástico con el calor se deforma, y más por la intensidad de la llama.
Yo uso la idea de los candiles, que es una pieza de latita delgada de 3 puntas con un agujero en el centro (donde va el pabilo) y en cada punta un pequeño corcho para mantenerla flotante. Uso una cuerda deblgada para el pabilo que paso por espelma de vela derretida y luego la paso por aceite para que dure (asi ella jala luego el otro aceite que se pone en el vaso) coloco un pedasito de papel aluminio para ajustar la cuerda y que no se caiga (la mecha debe quedar aislada del aceite, ya que al fuego tocar la mecha undida se apaga).
El detalle que se consume la mecha después de 6 u 8 horas y tengo que reacomodarla para volver a encender.😮y el nivel del aceite debe estar alto para que el pabilo lo siga absorviendo hacia arriba.

The plastic burns and the wick falls into the container and the flame lasts a 1000 years. Use a metal holder not the bottom of an ass plastic

Don’t you have to replace the oil or wick every so often. If you put that in an old glass covered candle holder it would give more light and with enough you could light your whole home

@@purjo882 the kind like when they didn’t have electricity oil lamps like in the old movies it stands up and keeps the flame from blowing out as you move around or if there’s a sudden gust of wind. The ancients made candles that lasted for hundreds of years if not thousands and some were out in the open and couldn’t be put out even if you threw water on it

Y a rien de mieux pour mettre le feu chez soi....le plastique fond....l huile chauffe, s enflamme et vu que l eau est en dessous....si vous touchez le recipient, à vos risques et perils de vous bruler la main ou de renverser l huile enflammée par terre ou sur vous même.....les lampes à huile fait maison comme ça.....rien de plus dangereux
